Kai pushed his plate away and looked at Daniel, “Ok so I’ve gotten-” He was stopped mid-sentence by Daniel holding his hand up.
“No finish your lunch then we’ll head to my office.”
Kai crammed the last four ounces of what was originally a seven or eight ounce piece of meat into his mouth. As he chewed he shoved potatoes and carrots into his mouth. Less than thirty seconds after Daniel’s words Kai showed him a clean plate and stood from the table. He chewed as they walked to Daniel’s office. It took about ten minutes before Kai swallowed.
The two men entered Daniel’s office and found Alric waiting. He had a notepad and a smile on his face. Daniel took his seat behind a rather large desk. Books lined the walls Kai noticed. Alric coughed and Kai realized he’d been staring at the books.
“Oh right. So do I finally get to look?” Kai asked.
“First,” Daniel spoke, “how was your training been? Do you feel you are learning and progressing? Or are things just as hard as when you started?”
Kai thought for a moment and recalled all the shit he had been through from that first day when Daniel had acid thrown on him to Alric running him through the obstacle course and the various sparring matches he’d done.
“I would say things are easier. Not easy or anything, but I can actually run the whole obstacle course. My Mana Bolt seems to actually push people back a bit. I have always been good with my sword but it really feels a part of my hand now. I’m in the best shape of my life. So overall, yeah it’s helped a lot.”
“Excellent. And how has Alric been as an instructor?”
Kai paused and wondered if this was a trap. He glanced at Alric who stared down at the notebook he was taking notes in. Kai hesitated then told the truth as he saw it. “He’s been a bit of an asshole, but I think that has mainly been to just push me to do more than I think I can. He’s had a huge impact and introduced me to some people who have been very helpful, though Leona was a bit scary.”

Daniel laughed at the last bit. “Good. Now, when you stopped looking at your stats you had twelve skills with Physical Fitness and Running your two highest at level 7. Go ahead and go through your notifications.”
Kai’s eyes glazed over.

Holy shit. This was just too much. Kai shook his head. “There are a metric shit ton of them. Do I have to read them all off?”
Daniel shook his head as Alric said, “No. If you could simply bring up your status and then will it to be shared with the two of us.”
A moment later Kai’s info made itself available to both men.

Congratulations! Due to your actions, you are developing your own personal skill. Skill is 10% complete.
“Hey guys. What does it mean that I’m developing my own personal skill?” Kai asked as Alric worked away in his notebook. At the question the two men froze.
“You have a notification that says that? What percentage is it?” Daniel asked and looked at Alric. “What has he done that is unusual?”
Alric shrugged. “We ran the course. He spared, well Kayle and Paolo knocked him out then he spared. More of the course. Night training with Leona.” He shot Kai a look. “I don’t think anything unusual there but you’d have to ask her.” Daniel nodded and made a motion with his hand to continue. “More of the course. Then the fight for the spot on the squad. Then more course. Then the crafting. Maybe the crafting?”
“No. He has Mana Imbue at level 4 I believe that’s his crafting. Since we shall now allow notifications we must keep an eye out for this. Most likely either his fighting style or something from the obstacle course. Push both of those.”
Alric made a note and nodded. “Any other interesting notifications?” Kai shook his head no and returned his focus to the room.
“Okay. Now what? I get to spend that sweet 148 Path Points? Please!!”
Daniel nodded. “Yes, go ahead and complete the Pathless I path. Then wait a moment.
Kai dumped 4 more points into Pathless I.
