《NO STRINGS ATTACHED》CH. 83

Taïna looked at the wave of people rushing to the gate. Her dogs were truly useful in this cases. She loved the protocol. It's too bad that she couldn't used it more. She did have to free the inmate who found the targets after all... She was a woman of her words after all.
While she was absentedly osberving their rush, a lieutenant asked her:
???: Where should we send them, Commander?
She pondered for a minute before replying:
Taïna: Gorgaen.
The lieutenant nodded. A soldier near the door received the door and inputted the coordinates. The vortex opened and not long later, the inmates rushed in. Then, there was complete silence as the vortex was closed. The jail was silent. There were no longer any inmates inside.
Taïna: I hope they find him soon~
As she said so, she plunged down into her throne made from a fluffy creature from some random planet she had went to. She had hunted the beast solely because it was fluffy. She had thought that a chair made from it would be nice. And it did. In the end, she didn't regret killing that innocent beast. She wouldn't have regretted it either way though. Remorse wasn't her forte.
Except for this man.
She was supposed to capture him too. Like any other criminal she tracked and hunted down. Yet, this one had something more to him. He got her curious. They had a very exciting and stimulating battle first which was rare too. Then, she managed to cut an arm. But he didn't even seem to feel it or care as he grew one of pure Magic.
That's how she noticed that he had a puppet body too. So, curious, and not in danger from this battle, she decided to talk. She asked him:
Taïna: Are you a master puppeteer too?

Yet, the man laughed at her. And he told her:
Shen: Neither of us are.
She wasn't focusing on puppeting but she did believe that she was quite good enough. At least to the point where she could be considered a Master. After all, she did manage to create herself an undying puppet body and retain her soul. So, she asked him with a bit of anger:
Taïna: Are you questionning my ability?
Shen: No. I am questionning whether that ability is really yours.
Taïna: What do you mean?
Shen: ...Why are you here, Taïna?
Taïna: To send you to my jail.
Shen: What crime did I commit?
Taïna: Uh? You did... Wait... What did you do again?
That's when he looked at her with a sad smile. He had an expression of pity on his face and you could see it inside his eyes. He pitied her. He pitied the great commander of the space jail... How? Why? What was happening? She couldn't explain it but that look in his eyes captured her heart.
Then, before she could really understand, he said:
Shen: Since I have commited no crimes, I'll leave as an innocent. I wish you the best, Taïna.
And he disappeared. And she did not even grasp how. It was incomprehensible. But more than anything, he got her curious. He got her to feel things she had never felt before. Being pitied on...Did he care about her?
More and more she thought of him. And more and more she wanted to meet him again. The further she thought of him, the further she fell for him. A man who did not look at her with fear but pity and care instead? And he was quite strong too...And quite handsome...
She began to fantasize about him leading the jail at her side. She began to feel 'love' for the first time. Not a twisted love like the one she had for hunting or torture... True romantic feelings were developping out of nowhere inside her. And solely from a look that he gave.

She needed to find him again.
Taïna: I want you...I will find you...
...
A snake humanoid was walking on the scorched lands of a desolate planet. Remnants of Karvus squeletons were here and there, mostly burnt. There were some mechanic devices melt and buildings melt too here and there...
'Wurm: I fought here...'
'Wurm: There was Archbishop Ash and Jail Commander Taïna too... But why did we fight? And together?'
'Wurm: I can't remember who we fought...'
'Wurm: There are only Karvus here...But I have no interests in them? Nor was I hired to kill them?'
'Wurm: Why did I fight here? Who did I fight?'
'Wurm: I need to find answers... Did I really attack the Karvus?'
'Wurm: ... I will get to the bottom of this'
Wurm took out a mechanical device with a screen. On it was a single arrow pointing forward. He followed the direction until he found a door standing there in pristine state. Just like the divens, the doors were indestructible. And they would remain as long as the divens that brought them to creation did.
Wurm activated the door and crossed over the vortex not even looking back. The planet had been destroyed and all lives extinguished but the Divens remained and life would come back someday. It always does. After all, Magic is Life.
He went through the gate and reappeared in a central plaza. All around him were hundreds of Karvus pointing guns at him with many more behind them manipulating canons. There were some airships too. And he noticed a few strong beings around as well. They were easy to spot. They weren't hiding at all. Compared to their dumb brethrens, they did not have red scales but cyan ones. They were the top of the Karvus empire.
One of them walked up and after sizing him, he said:
???: I am Ocearus Karvu. I ask you, Wurm, Legendary mercenary, Patriarch of the Stone-eyed reptilians, what have you come to us for?
Wurm: ...I want an audience with your Emperor.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14

Double-Blind: A Modern LITRPG
Choosing a college when your family is struggling can be difficult, but it isn’t supposed to be world ending. And the falling meteor is seriously limiting Matt’s options. Now in the aftermath, his home city is locked down by a mysterious dome, corporations are looking to monopolize a wealth of new untapped resources, and people are suddenly developing powers via a system that seems to have borderline sinister intentions. In the chaos, he decides to stick to what he knows: stay out of the spotlight, grind, and survive. Watch as Matt is dragged into a dark LITRPG set in the real world, where the price of failure is death, and the prize for winning is beyond his wildest dreams. ++++++++++++++++++ There’s a couple big influences here: Solo-Leveling, Squid Game, and Code Geass. If you enjoy LITRPG stories with morally gray characters, high stakes, and smart protagonists who start weak and eventually become powerful in a unique way, you’ll probably find something to like. But be forewarned. It won’t be easy. I'll be writing this fast, so keep in mind there's likely to be typos that we'll correct as we go. Developmental Editing by Lev.
