《NO STRINGS ATTACHED》CH. 80

Junk: So. Shen~ My friend~ When can you give me Magic?
Shen: ... Help me get a body first.
Junk: Sure, it's not like bodies are lacking around here~ Which one do you fancy~?
Shen: ... Just get me some eyes for now. I can't see.
Junk: Use Magic then? Don't tell me you don't know how?
Shen: I can't seem to succeed the spell.
Junk: Ah. Yeah. Of course.
Shen: What?
Junk: Nah~ It's nothing~ Let me go fetch a pair of eyeballs for you~
Shen: Wait. Do you know why I am unable to?
Junk: Uh? No, I don't.
Shen: Then what was that of course?
Junk: Just wanted to appear mysterious~ Got you~
'Shen: This fucker is insane too. Just not completely insane. I better watch out and remain on guard...'
Junk: How about limbs too while at it?
Shen: ...Sure.
...
It had been a week since Shen left through a portal and told them to wait. Atem, Tempest and Lera had recovered enough to fight if required but their bodies remained in bad shape. They weren't able to regenerate and fill their Magic at the same time. They had prioritized the Magic in case a fight happened.
None did.
The ocean remained calm. The coast was clear. And Shen did not come back.
Atem: He won't come back soon it seems.
Tempest: Yeah...What should we do then? Can you reopen the portal?
Atem: No...That fucker seems to have finally succeeded in turning a door into a talisman. That's a space mastery beyond us right now. We should focus on regenerating while we wait for him here.
Tempest: ...There is no way we can regenerate such damages with our meager pool. What do you have in mind?
Atem: We need Divens to regenerate.
Tempest: True. Shen had them though.

Lera: Don't even think of taking this world's!
Atem and Tempest looked at the mini-Lera and chuckled. True, they could steal the Divens from this one world. However, there were only around sixty divens there. It was a far cry from what they needed. They could recreate body parts right now but they would be of lower quality than the original.
Having more Divens would enable them to manipulate more Magic, both in quantity and quality. Regenerating their lost parts correctly would require a certain degree of Magic quality they couldn't reach right now.
Atem: We need more than that so it would be pointless.
Tempest: There's no way we can go conquer other worlds in such states...If we were to encounter even the slightest real resistance, we would be fucked.
Atem: We don't have the resources and we can't go fetch them. Then there's only one thing we can do. Send someone else.
Lera & Tempest: Who?
Atem: As many as we can. To increase the process. Let's make turn this world into a conquering one.
Lera: Are you going to...?
Tempest: Seems like we are. So, what's the first step?
Atem: ...We need to secure the entrances and exits. Can you take care of the door and the pulling chanel with Lera?
Tempest: Sure. Are you going to protect the exterior? Will you manage?
Atem: It might take me some time...But it's fine, i will go fetch Cynthia first...
Lera looked at Atem who was grinning like a fool and sighed. She sent a silent prayer for the poor woman he had set his sights on. It never ended well for those girls...
Lera: Let's go, Tempest.
Tempest: Yeah. Have fun Atem~
Atem: I~ will~
From this day on, the duo of Lera and Tempest began to work on creating two folded spaces. One was the previous dungeon and contained the door. They had to reinforce the walls of the space and move it somewhere else. The second one would contain the pulling chanel.

The pulling chanel is the entrance to the world. Doors send people randomly into a world according to the world's coordinates inside the Myriad of verses but there are no specific coordinates inside the world itself. A pulling chanel serves as a solution to such a problem. It forcefully interact with the portal sending the people and give second coordinates to the doors trying to access a world.
They are similar to a second door and are 'man-made' arrival points. Da On Kai had previously made the door itself as the pulling chanel, creating a so-called double-door.
Their job would be to separate both and isolate the pulling chanel in a different space. And to turn that space into a murdering tool. They wanted to invade but not to be invaded after all. The most important part of conquest is to protect yourself first.
If you want to hunt, beware not to become the prey.
As such, it is a must to have ownership of the world's exit but even more important to tightly guard its entrance.
Meanwhile, Atem would work on protecting the world itself from being penetrated from the outside. It is easier to travel through doors but there is space between worlds. As such, other ways to travel do exist. Some nations, empires and others prefer to use vessels that move through space instead of doors.
As such, it becomes a necessity to hide and protect the world from this kind of threats.
Atem planned to use a mix of Shadow, Dark, Illusion and Mind Magics to make the entire world invisible from outer space. Also, he planed to erect a defensive barrier all around the world to prevent unexpected accidents. Such a project was of course not something that could be done in mere days or even months.
Both Tempest, Atem and Lera were ready to spend many years on the project and there was but one reason behind their drive: Shen.
They knew he would come back because they had the utmost faith in him however they did not know when. As such, they could only prepare to welcome him back. They would be waiting for as long as they needed to.

The Infinite Labyrinth
(Story complete - Book 1 "Shanghaied", 2 "Shortcuts", 3 "Secrets" and 4 "Sanctions") It is the 19th century, and war smoulders between England and France. Any hope for a quick end to Napoleon's rampage across Europe ended when the Great Gates opened in 1800. For a fortunate few, the strange world of the Infinite Labyrinth offers opportunities, strange descriptors popping in their minds, informing them of growth, and status beyond that of a mere mortal. The materials and power crystal they bring back foster a new age, both military and civilian. Aether-powered Skyships prowl the skies, as all the great nations blessed by the Gates try to turn the blessings of the Labyrinth into immediate advantages. But for Jonas, an apprentice leatherworker, his friend Ira, and so many Londoners, the fabled ones that walk the Labyrinth are distant heroes, seen from afar. They fell short when their Potential was measured, and they fill their mundane lives with distant dreams. One man wants to break the stalemate. The Tyrant of the Dominion of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, has a plan. Eighteen years after the world changed, he will force it to change again. And when civilians are caught in the fallout, the unthinkable happens. Six people, unqualified, forbidden to ever enter the Labyrinth, find themselves stranded in a distant zone, forcefully turned into Professionals. They know little of what that means, but they have to figure out the rules that are now their lot, for they have little hope to escape their predicament otherwise. They need to understand what the descriptors in their minds mean, what each of the strange piece of gear waiting in treasure chests behind terrible guardians can bring them. They have to become Professionals on their own and rejoin the Empire. They will figure out their new lives one way or another. But will there be an Empire waiting for them when the Gates re-open? Caught in a clash of empires and high tiers, they will do what little they can. They will step up and do their best. One way or another. The Infinite Labyrinth is a slice-of-life litRPG adventure set in a real historical setting. It's a hard, crunchy litrpg. Expect blue boxes everywhere, and the system itself is very mathy. It started life as a serial. I prepared some proper worldbuilding, with enough details and background for lots of different potential story arcs, but as I wrote, I realized the main story needs to have a definitive end. So, there are four books in total, for a bit under 1500 pages, plus additional side stories, and even maybe a sequel one day. The Gore tag was added as a precaution because there are a few scenes with some light gore.

A Broken Kingdom
After fighting a diseased ancient silver dragon, Oskar must solve a mystery that leads him halfway across the world in pursuit of answers. This story is based on a character from a tabletop roleplaying game. I realized that I'd spent quite a lot of time planning out his backstory, and decided to go ahead and write some of it down. Then I wrote more, and more, and realized that I had a lot more than any sane RPG player should write about their character...
