《Ninth World: Prima Natus Vampire》4. First contact

Mia suddenly collapsed on the spot, presumably from fear and shock. Out of the three, Evangeline is the only one that can barely hold to consciousness. Her face is painted with pain since her arm looks to be broken with quite the deep cuts from the beast’s claws. Stan lost consciousness right after crashing onto a tree.
“Um… I, help… you, injured”
I was trying my best to remember how to speak. At least I hope Evangeline can comprehend what I am trying to say or things will become complicated. Worst of all is that I don’t know what to do! Ever since I became a vampire injuries have been of no concern to me as they heal really fast. Moreover drinking blood increases my healing speed so I never bothered with methods for healing injuries!
The smell of blood is quite strong right now and if it wasn’t because I already had a meal I would have already started drinking. Evangeline’s face is becoming pale due to blood loss and Stan is having trouble breathing, he might have a broken rib. Out of the three, Mia is the only unharmed one.
While they fought I had seen Mia healing them so I am guessing she is the support of the team. She might have something like bandages or healing ointments. I quickly went to her and began inspecting her luggage. Mostly camping equipment but thankfully I did manage to find some bandages. I quickly took them and went to Evangeline.
“What are you doing?”
Her voice was weak as she held her arm in an attempt to stop the blood loss. Her expression was a pained one with a tinge of wryness. Her body drenched in sweat thanks to the previous fight made her look sickly.
I may be a vampire now but I was a normal… something before. I still got scratches when playing and would have mom look after me. Remembering how she did it I tried to do the same. First I took a small pouch from Evangeline’s side which contained water. I cleaned the wound to the best of my ability and then tightly wrapped the bandages around it.
It didn’t take long for the bandages to become red as they become blood-soaked. Out of the three, Evangeline’s condition is the worst but with this, she should be able to keep going for a while longer. As my hands had become bloodied I could help myself and gave it a taste. Evangeline’s blood was sweet and a bit greasy, unlike the beast’s blood which tended to be salty and spicy.
I wasn’t afraid of Evangeline becoming my thrall since I discovered that unless I drank directly from someone nothing would happen. Anyway, Evangelin has already gone to dreamland and now I have to deal with three unconscious adults. I softly tapped my chin with a finger as a wondered what to do.

“Woof”
Silver who was the most protective of the three came out still in his small form. To many, this would have just been a bark but for me, it held a lot of meaning. He wondered what I wanted to do now while also asking for my well being. Really this guy is a worrywart but I love him like that.
Thinking about it I decided to bring them back to our home. If I were to leave them here they would die for sure since any other beast could come and eat them in their sleep. Leaving the transportation to my family each carried one of them in their jaws and beak. I felt a little bad for this group of people so I asked them to carry them in their backs however they refused. They didn’t want anyone else but me to be carried in their backs. I am sure that if I ordered them to do it they would but I don’t feel like going that far.
Anyway, it took us a while to go back since I didn’t know how much abuse these three could sustain. I can’t use myself as a reference since its obvious I am far stronger than them. After a while, we got to our little sweet home and I prepared a few pelts for them to sleep on while I prepared some of them the meat we had gotten today.
Around four hours later when the sun was setting Mia was the first to wake up. Thankfully I had told my family to stay in their small form otherwise I think she would have gone back to sleep for a few more hours.
“Where am I?”
Mia rubbed her head while looking around perfectly ignoring me, the fireplace with meat on it and my family. Either her perception is very low or she is a natural airhead.
“me, home”
I decided to speak first otherwise who knows how long it would take her to discover my presence. It might also be my own fault, after all I still don’t know everything about being a vampire. Anyway I still want to talk to her, it has been so long I have talked with anyone aside from my family so this feels refreshing somehow.
“Ah! You are the kid! The monster quickly we need to kill it! Wait did it bring us here to eat later? We are just its midnight snack! I don’t want to die”
Airhead indeed. I couldn’t help but shack my head while trying to contain my laughter which became a muffled giggle through my efforts. This girl didn’t listen to what I said what should I do to calm her down? As I wondered about that she calmed down by herself while sniffing the air.

“Is that roasted meat? ugh, I am really hungry right now”
Her stomach made an audible rumble which made me unable to contain my laughter anymore. I burst out laughing while Mia looked confused and asked me about what was so funny. It took me a while a to calm down but after I did I took some of the roasted meat and offered it to her. This was for them anyway so might as well give it now. Mia looked confused before speaking.
“I can’t this is your food, I can’t take a kid’s food”
“I ate, this you. More friends”
I tried my best but having my speech be so broken is a bother. I also pointed and made gestures to help convey what I was trying to say. In the end, Mia accepted the food before remembering the situation her friends had been in. She entered into panic and began looking for them. In an instant, she spotted the pale Evangeline with her broken and bandaged arm as well as Stan, who was having some trouble breathing.
In an instant, she began talking in a weird language. It was the same language she used whenever she healed her friends so I am guessing she is using healing magic. Soon after Stan’s breathing stabilized and Evangeline’s pained expression lessened while her face regained some colour. Mia sighed as she wiped the sweat that had formed on her forehead, she looked exhausted.
“em, they fine?”
“uh? ah, yes, I just healed them. erm, did you bandage Evangeline’s arm?”
She said this while removing the bandages. The wound wasn’t bleeding anymore and the large cuts were slightly smaller as well. Her broken bone was no longer causing her arm to have a weird shape as it had gone back to its rightful place.
“yes”
“Thank you, it’s quite the poor bandage job but anything is better than nothing. Without it, I fear she might have bled to death”
Mia turned around and gave me a bow before going back to Evangeline’s arm. She took bandages out of her bag and replaced the old bloodied ones. I hadn’t used all the bandages up and since they originally belonged to Mia a placed them back on her bag. Looking at how she carefully and caringly bandaged Evangeline’s arm I could tell the tow had a strong bond.
“Right I haven’t presented myself. I am Mia from the adventurer group brave souls. This one is Evangeline and that one is Stan. Thank you for saving us, what is your name?”
She gave me a beaming smile as she finished. Her long elf ears moving up and down, causing her short cyan her to move cutely, her emerald eyes shining under the firelight. Her appearance and personality gave me the sensation of a careless older sister.
“Lilith”
“Lilith, that’s a cute name. In the name of our group brave souls, I thank you for helping us out”
She once again bowed before speaking again. This time her tone changed, becoming a bit more serious as I could see worry appearing on her eyes. She looked at me and my clothing as well as the rest of the cave, her worried expression only growing.
“Lilith, you live here?
“yes”
“How old are you? you don’t look older than thirteen”
“twelve”
I wasn’t really sure how old I am, I lost track of time but I do believe it has only been to years so right now I should be around twelve. I responded to her questions truthfully since she hasn’t asked anything I want to hide. Not to mention that this way I don’t have to speak much.
“As I thought, you are really young. Where are your parents? How could they abandon their daughter in a place like this? How irresponsible of them, they should be-”
“Shut up”
I interrupted her. I love my parents. They died for my safety. I won’t allow anyone to badmouth my parents. My bloodthirst began to boil as I looked at Mia with a gaze filled with hatred. Her face went pale in a second as she began shivering. I know she said those things because she doesn’t know. I know she doesn’t mean harm but even so, I won’t allow it. I walked forward and grabbed her shirt’s collar.
“I love parents. They died. Don’t talk if don’t know. This is warning”
I hate it. I hate that my speech is so broken but at this moment I did my best to threaten her. If she ever dares to bad mouth, my parents, again, she will become my next meal. I took a deep breath and calmed down before going back to my seat.
“S-sorry, I didn’t know”
Her voice was low and muffled, it was obvious I had frightened her out of her wits. Whatever, as long as she understands it’s alright.
