《A Side Villain’s Ballad.》043 Killing

Arrieta crouched down and started scratching wildly at her hair.
"What do I do? What do I do? What do I do? What do I do? I can't be stuck here! I can't be stuck here! I can't be stuck here! I have to get back! My father is waiting for me! My sister! My mother! What do I do?" [Arrieta] Seeing that Arrieta was having a moment, Neidr let her scream her heart out for a bit. Losing the bracelet was a death sentence out here. Zalar wouldn't have said what he said if he didn't mean it. He wasn't the kind of guy to allow you to teleport by touching someone else without your bracelet. Neidr looked at his intact bracelet and figured out what happened pretty easily. Zalar had probably sabotaged all the bracelets given to the peasants. The sneer on the old man's face made Neidr think it wasn't an accident. The old man's hatred towards peasants along with the fact that creating a sabotaged bracelet for one person was just too much work for too little effect. If you're thinking that she could just place the gem on her wrist or tie it down with vine, that's very clever. The only problem is that the rope itself is part of the tool. The gem detects the heartbeat, the rope sends the information. Even if it was lit up, it wouldn't mean anything without the rope.
"Want mine?"[Neidr] Neidr planned to let the poor girl scream herself hoarse, but blood was starting to come out of her head... Arrieta was instantly silent, she looked over to Neidr and said with anger in her voice,
"That isn't funny."[Arrieta]
"I wasn't joking."[Neidr]
"Neidr! I patched you up once! It's already repaid, don't be a fool!"[Arrieta] Neidr gave a little smirk and said,

"I think you're misunderstanding. I wasn't going to give up my life for yours, I value my life the most."[Neidr]
"Even if you don't die here, your life will be ruined, there's nothing here but beasts."[Arrieta]
"I didn't say I wasn't going back either, from the looks of it, the nobles still have their bracelets. My only thought was what if they didn't?" Neidr spread his hands and gave a cheeky smile.[Neidr] Arrieta's eyes widened and she said,
"Kill them?"[Arrieta]
"Yeah, between you and them, I like you better."[Neidr] Arrieta fell down, resting her back against a tree and said,
"I can't just kill someone so selfishly, can I?"[Arrieta]
"I didn't say you had to do it."[Neidr] Arrieta threw a venomous gaze Neidr way and said,
"If someone is going to have to die for me to get out of here, then I WILL NOT PRETEND IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ME."[Arrieta] Neidr smiled and said,
"Well then, will you go back?"[Neidr] Arrieta was silent. She looked down at the ground and pondered, ten minutes passed before she looked Neidr in the eye and said,
"I have to."[Arrieta] Neidr stood up and dusted off his pants. He gave out a small chuckle and said,
"Alright then, let's hunt."[Neidr] Neidr walked a few feet before he turned around and said to Arrieta,
"You don't happen to be able to sense their mana?"[Neidr]
"No."[Arrieta] Neidr stomped his foot,
"Damn, I don't know where anyone is. We only have a short period of time, we need to figure out a direction somehow."[Neidr]
"What if we don't?"[Arrieta] Neidr raised his eyebrow,
"Hmmm?"[Neidr]
"People are out here to look for herbs, right? If I find the right materials, I can fake the scent of some very rare and powerful herbs."[Arrieta] Neidr slapped his knee and said,

"Now you're thinking, get to looking for them, I'll provide overwatch."[Neidr] Arrieta nodded and began scouring the forest. Neidr climbed a tree to get a vantage point and took out his crossbow. After an hour, Neidr didn't see anything dangerous in the surroundings, and Arrieta finally finished her concoction. A slimy green ooze was slathered on the forest floor. Arrieta climbed up a tree adjacent to Neidr's and Neidr threw her a crossbow.
The duo waited in silence for three hours. Every crack of a broken twig put them on edge. Then they heard what they have been waiting for. Voices, from the sounds of it, two women. Neidr let out an excited smile, while Arrieta unconsciously frowned. The two women slowly came into sight. A redhead and a blonde. The redhead had a sprinkling of freckles on her face, while the blonde was without blemish. The redhead had long flowing hair while the blonde kept hers up in a ponytail.
"I told you it was the right move to come here! With this, you can finally get out of that awful marriage your parents arranged. They won't need his family's money anymore with a life-preserving fruit!" [Redhead] The redhead spoke excitedly, while the blonde reservedly smiled, keeping her eyes trained on the redhead's every action as if she was watching the most interesting thing in all the world.
"Yes, yes, you were right Abby."[Blonde] Arrieta looked over to Neidr, she wanted to live, but these people didn't seem bad. She had wanted an easy out, hoping that they didn't have bracelets, but the blue gems on their wrists shone mercilessly. She looked to Neidr for an answer. What should she do? She was just a farmgirl, looking at Neidr's eyes, ice pierced her heart, but at the same time, a fire burned.
His eyes didn't push her to kill them. There was no impatience. However, they didn't tell her to spare them either. There was a cold indifference as if saying to her,
'You choose.' That's right, this concerned her life. She couldn't fall back on any easy outs. She had to choose. It wasn't an easy choice. Arrieta didn't know if they would see another human being at all. If their trick was discovered and this duo told everyone that someone was faking the scents of valuable herbs, that would be a death sentence. Arrieta shut her eyes and took in a deep breath. She aimed her crossbow and fired. A bolt went through Abby's eye, killing her almost instantly. A bloodcurdling scream filled the forest.
"ABBY!"[Blonde] The scream like a vengeful ghost was cut short as a moment later, Neidr fired, a bolt pierced her throat. Neidr looked over at Arrieta and said,
"It may not mean alot coming from me, but I would've taken the shot."[Neidr] Arrieta looked over at Neidr with self-hatred filling her heart, she was a sinner.

The Stars Have Eyes
The universe was a vast, empty, dark, and uncaring place. Then life happened, and the universe was changed forever. Only a teeny-tiny bit, but definitely different. Then again, the universe changes a teeny-tiny bit every second of every day. For instance, if someone were to get off the couch and randomly drink a glass of milk? Bam! One less glass of milk in the universe. Changed forever. Well, excluding any time-travel shenanigans, but anyone who puts a big old hole in the time-space continuum just to un-drink a glass of milk should really reevaluate their priorities. Unless, of course, they were attempting to prevent some massive catastrophe vis-a-vis said glass of milk. Such a scenario is by no means impossible, as one should never underestimate the importance of calcium. Another important tip for any life forms out there is to keep things in perspective. Some look at the vastness of creation in relation to themselves and go, ‘Man, this sucks!’ These people really need to narrow their focus. Sure, they will never affect anything happening on the other end of the galaxy, but so what? That’s way the heck over there, where it doesn’t matter. Therefore, in order to maintain a healthy mindset, it is important to narrow one’s perspective to the things and people that affect them, and that they can affect in turn. But what happens if one is an unfathomable cosmic being from beyond the veil of reality? What happens when such an existence is capable of influencing entire swathes of the universe just by its presence? A creature such as Magh'rathlak the Observer? That particular entity is only about average as far as reality-warping creatures from the dawn of time go, so its influence over the fabric of reality is rather limited. And it still struggles to keep things in perspective. That, among other things, is why it decided to narrow its worldview a bit by compressing the maddening vastness of its being into a single corporeal form. Magh'rathlak had never tried such a feat, but that wasn't about to stop it. After all, how hard could being human possibly be?
