《A Side Villain’s Ballad.》001 Do I Have to Say it?

A shaky carriage going down a rough mountain path. Only the squealing of a bouncing wooden wheel breaks the quiet and awe of the green mountain peaks. Within the battered carriage lies a young man. Back bent and eyes unfocused, he does his best to stay comfortable, but it is all for naught. Moving to and fro, spinning left and right, even at the break of day he is trying to tell the world goodnight. Hitting a rock, the already worse for wear back axle breaks.
The carriage tips and crashes into a tree rooted on the cliffside. The youth is thrown and his weight collapses into the door, slamming it open. Unprepared and unfit, he flings his arms around desperately as he falls down the side of the cliff. As it is steep, but nowhere near vertical, he will survive... probably. His well-fitting suit is quickly tarnished as it catches on bushes and brambles as he rolls down the mountainside. The best he can do is guard his head with his arms. Which he does, which is good. Cuts and bruises riddle his forearm, and although he feels great regret about this; he is far happier to have protected his head. It wouldn't do to become any stupider after all.
His back slams into the trunk of a rather large tree, stopping his descent but also causing his back to produce a loud cracking sound. The young man lays lifeless against the trunk. His listless blue eyes staring at the great distance he has come from the precipice, he rubs his matted black hair and whines,
“Fuck... I don't want to climb that shit.”[Neidr] Gazing up at the great distance he covered in such a short time, he could only resent the fact he can't roll uphill too. He was never an athletic person in either of his lives, but that was going to have to change soon.

“AHHHHHH, Fine, I'll do it,”[Neidr] he relented, “but first a short nap.”[Neidr] With that, he closed his eyes and began to rest. In truth, it hasn't been long since the young man came to this world. He had a life previous to this new one, but it was what one would call sad and pathetic, so you wouldn't care anyway. In truth, only this new life matters, so only the name of this body matters. Neidr Hyll. The name might not mean anything to you, but for the inhabitants of the Hyll territory it was, if not the portent of death, the portent of slight misfortune.
Neidr Hyll is the only son of the Hyll Barony. A low rank for sure, but a noble rank nonetheless. He is notorious in the Hyll territory, not because he is particularly vicious compared to other nobles, but rather, the Hyll territory is rural and gossip is the only way to relieve boredom. Neidr Hyll was known as a lazy, spoiled brat. Just based on this, you might assume that Neidr was a member of the younger generation. However, it gets worse. As the heir to a noble family, his laziness, his pettiness, his wroth, could cause death. Usually, it caused property damage, but it could cause death.
None of that is important right now, though. What we should really focus on while Neidr Hyll is unconscious and bleeding alone in the woods is how his character fit within the original story. Are you wondering what original story I'm talking about? You don't pay a lot of attention, do you? Never mind, I'll tell you anyway. Neidr Hyll was a minor villain role in a swords and magic story based in Rotham Academy. He was the type of guy to get full of himself, since he was the only noble in the backwater region he called home. He must have the best ladies, food, clothes, etc. Coming across the protagonist who was not of noble blood, Hyll disparaged and bullied him. Well, I don't think I have to continue, you get the picture.

Unable to sleep, Neidr simply rubs his eyes and stretches his back.
He has some trouble moving forward at first as his feet are wrapped in some sort of vine, but after a few minutes, he regained his freedom. His muscles scream as he begins the grueling task of ascending the mountain. When he was only halfway to the top, he wanted to take a rest, but a voice kept nagging at him to keep going forward. Like the beeping of a car when you didn't put your seatbelt on, Neidr was loath to listen to it any longer, more so than he was feeling sore. Upon witnessing the crashed corpse of the magic carriage, Neidr gave a sigh of relief.
He wasn't worried about the driver, as there wasn't one, nor did he particularly care about denting it. He was just glad to see he made it to the top, letting out a battle cry of victory, Neidr got to work. Using his body weight to pull the carriage back down onto the road, Neidr noticed something. A small problem really, his back axle was broken. His carriage could no longer move.
“Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, you know what, I shouldn't curse so much.”[Neidr] Neidr took a deep breath made an obligation in his mind he knew he wouldn't keep, and began to brainstorm about how to fix this issue. It won't do to walk to Rotham, he could barely walk up that hill.
He can't go back either, at this point he is closer to Rotham than the Hyll Barony. Scratching his head, Heidr could only think to jerry-rig the damn thing to work. Treating it like a broken bone and splinting it. If he could totally cover the break with branches or bark and tie a rope around it, that would be a start.
It would be better to just carve a new axle from a long branch, but the axle and wheels were carved from one trunk, going that route would mean making new wheels. He isn't that competent. Luckily, there are plenty of trees near the road. After collecting a few, he searches the carriage for rope. There is no rope. Losing hope for this idea before it began, Neidr crashes into the ground and stares down the mountainside.
At that moment, something catches his eye, although he almost wishes it hadn't. There is a vine wrapped around a very familiar tree. Just looking at it sends shivers up his spine.
“Fuck,”[Neidr] and like that, his first promise was broken.

The Curio Shoppe
Kellan Klein is an ordinary college student with an average, if traumatic and painful past. Everyone grows up grappling with depression and anxiety that seem to be genetic in a house with parents that, while loving, fight all the time and have weird ideas about what kids should and shouldn't do, right? Everyone deals with bullying, racism, judgement on their romantic inclinations and their family's economic status and just general shittiness, right? All of Kellan's friends sure did, and for all of them, entertaiment media were a welcome escape from their painful, dreary lives. After all, who wouldn't want to sail the seas with Monkey D. Luffy and the Strawhats, or help Meng Hao con increasingly powerful and influential people, or join Cecil Harvey and his friends on their weird journey to save the world, or make friends with Peter Parker while pretending to not know he was everyone's favorite wall-crawling superhero? Kellan certainly wanted to, and while he pursued college to seek out a career he saw himself enjoying, something felt inexplicably empty about his life. So when a decidely sinister force kidnaps him and the prettiest man he's ever seen saves his life and offers him his wildest dreams, Kellan becomes the shopkeeper of a mysterious, dimension hopping shop, complete with a system that helps him acquire items. abilities, materials, and other cool shit to stock it with, as well as some other neat perks. Will Kellan become a boring overpowered MC, like the kind from web fiction that he reads to sate his boredom? Will he keep his generally kind, sweet nature despite the shit he's gone through and will go through, or will he inexplicably become a scary, violent, irrational arrogant douchebag? Will he use his newfound abilities to explore the multiverse and improve the lives of himself and others, or will he become his own antithesis, a purely mercantile jerk obsessed with money and profit, with no concern for anything that doesn't help or hurt his business? Find out in The Curio Shoppe! Author's note: Please suggest possible setting he could visit in the comments. I'll gather ones i'm familiar with, and at the end of every arc, a poll will be held to decide the next location he visits. There will be polls for other purposes, and I might not always go with the poll winner if I feel one of the other options is more fun to read/write about. I will not use the settings of other RRL writers without their permission.Do not ask for that, unless the author in question gives permission. Most settings he visits will be slightly AU in some way or another, but please remind me if I drift too far from canon unintentionally or characterize a character wrongly. This work will eventually fit all tags I selected once he visits universes suited to those tags, so don't ask when or where a given tag is coming. I do not own the cover art, it belongs to Nicholas Belanger Thiel, and I will stop using it if he asks me to. Kellan doesn't look like the old man on the cover, though once he acquires a disguise-type ability he may occasionally use that appearance. The tapir, however, will be a thing, as despite looking like a failed attempt at an elephant, tapirs are cool and this dragon finds them to be kinda cute. The art, along with more of Nicholas's pieces, can be found at https://www.artstation.com/artwork/51bXz

In a world of swords, magic, and wonders, Vreil suddenly loses his family to a twist of fate. On his quest to survive, he follows a mysterious wizard, and becomes embroiled in a revolution he knows little of. He cultivates magic, learns to fight with a blade, and meets worthy companions. He grows stronger and more mature, gradually turning from prey into a hunter. And in his journey, Vreil clashes with pirates, immortal jokesters, wolves and, even worse, sheep. Can he use magic, blade and wit to fight them off? Or will he be the one to fall instead? Follow Vreil on his adventures. Witness the dawn of an era. 🧙🧙🧙 This is a story I'd written a few years back, and I figured it's a waste to just let it sit around. Most of it is already written, but I'm going through the chapters and editing the shit out of them. This story is NOT a Lit-RPG, so no blue screens or anything of the sort. It is just fast-paced fiction with slight cultivation elements. Updates are bi-daily (so every 2 days), and chapters are 1500-3000 words. As always, feedback is more than welcome. Why are you still reading the synopsis? You have already decided. Go ahead, give this story a shot. It's worth it.
