Chapter 21

I woke up to screaming so I jumped out of bed and put my glasses on. Jeanette and Tessa also woke up and started getting dressed. I drew my guns and we left my room to find out what was happening.

Fraya was standing at the inns exit.

Falon:"What's going on?"

Fraya:"We're under attack! Ruby and Cal just left and I was about to come get you."

I stepped outside to look around. I could see smoke rising on one side of the city and screams coming from all directions. People were rushing by trying to find a safe place to hide. I gave the colt python to Fraya.

Falon:"Lets go. Tessa you stay behind us and protect Jeanette."

Tessa:"Yes!"

We went the opposite direction of the fires which is where Cal and Ruby went. We all knew this tactic of burning one escape route and attack from the other.

We were being attacked by demons, but they looked kind of like the people from this city. Fraya and I shot everyone we came across in the head. They looked like corpses and seemed dumb. They leapt at us and tried to sink their teeth into our flesh. It felt like they were zombies.

Falon:"Don't let any of them bite or scratch you!"

We finally caught up to Ruby and Cal who were chopping off demon heads and appeared to be completely unhurt.

We fought horde after horde and their numbers started to thin out. We pushed past them to try and find the source and found Jack.

Falon:"What are you doing here what about the attack on Gart?"

Jack:"Ya know I can teleport through shadows as long as I've been to the location once."

Falon:"Why are you here!?"

Jack:"I wanted to test out my new creation. They'll only last till sunset, but that's long enough for a test."

Falon:"What these zombies!?"

Jack:"Oh! So you know what a zombie is?"

Falon:"How did you make them!?"

Jack:"With my new weapon, Clavicula Salomonis Regis. It's a grimoire."

I was pissed so I shot at him, but he turned to shadows and it passed through.

Jack:"I heard the story about how you knew the Demon King so I thought if I give him your head along with all the soldiers coming to attack him he'll trust me. Don't worry I plan to kill him too after a while."

Falon:"Try and take my head!"

He turned to shadow and rushed towards me. He thrust his dagger towards my neck, but I dodged.

Jack:"That was fast I thought you were normal."

My new glasses had two enchantments on them. I had eagle sight in my left eye and what I call Prometheus vision in my right. Prometheus vision allowed me to see a few seconds into the future which is what let me know what attack was coming.

He kept attacking but I dodged them all which angered him.

Falon:"What's wrong take my head."

His shadow form dashed away and towards Jeanette and Tessa, but Tessa threw up a light barrier that he couldn't get through.

Jack:"Bastards! Die already!"

We weren't hurt but we couldn't do any damage to him so retreating was our only option.

Falon:"We need to retreat!"

Tessa:"What about the people of Haven!"

Falon:"Our job is to protect Jeanette so we need to leave now!"

I was still dodging Jacks attacks and reached into my bag to pull out a smoke grenade that I threw at Jack. A cloud of smoke covered everyone around us. Cal and Ruby had stopped fighting zombies and met up with Tessa to prepare to retreat.

The blood crystals allowed us to sort of sense each other so I ran by them and they knew to follow. With the eagle sight enchantment I could still see Jack after we got a safe distance away since he was at the top of an incline in the city.

Tessa used magic to put out fires while we exited through the burning city gate. She was exhausted from putting out so many fires so I carried her as we moved farther away from the city. I felt bad about abandoning the people, but I had to keep the girls safe.

I let Fraya keep the colt python since any trouble we ran into I could handle with the model 29. I had spent so much of my free time making bullets that I probably would have enough even if I never made anymore.

After a few weeks we made it to a village and was quite surprised. It was a human and demon village. I had heard about them, but I've never seen humans living peacefully with demons. They were mostly halflings so they look human except for black hair and different skin colors.

The humans all had brown hair and no one seemed bothered about living together. I knew there were villages like this on the outskirts of the demon continent and that the farther in you went the more demonic they become.

We were able to get a room at an inn and later that night heard news about the attack on the capital. The humans were betrayed by heroes and slaughtered. The heads of Leon, Isaac and Wesson were put on display.

The two heroes who didn't betray, Sam and Dean, escaped with their lives and are now on the run. The traitor heroes Jack, Felicity and the beastman hero Beth were assigned the job of hunting the other heroes down.

We all felt depressed so we quietly ate our meal and returned to our room to sleep. Village guards came to arrest us the next morning saying that I was a wanted criminal. We had to kill the guards and left the city. They were very weak, but I didn't feel bad about killing them since I was over come with a sense of failure.

Tessa:"What should we do now."

Falon:"We can only stay on the run and look for comrades."

We traveled to a bunch of small villages and stayed for a night. A year passed and we were heading to the elf kingdom. We tried the dwarves, but couldn't get past the border since they are worried about being invaded. They told us that we would receive no help from them.

The elves didn't really like humans, but it would be to difficult to try going to the beastmen. They increased the guards on their border as well, but I offered new military technology. The dwarves didn't except because they felt that they had the best weapons. I showed the. The guns but they still refused.

The elves let us in and we made it to Ryfemel(Elven capital) to meet the King of elves. He looked like a pretty boy in his early twenties with long green silky hair.

King:"You say these guns can allow one of my men to kill ten times as many people."

We were all kneeling in front of the king while he was on his throne. We looked dirty after the year of traveling and had patched up clothes on. They had taken my guns and satchel, but I knew they would.

Falon:"Yes my lord and I am the only one who knows how to create them."

King:"I will give you one week to create a weapon that strengthens our army. If you succeed I will allow you and your......friends to live here. I would not even consider this if it wasn't for the war that will surely be coming to our people."

Falon:"I understand my lord and I vow to deliver weapons strong enough to force all of your enemy's to think twice before attacking you."

The kings looked bored through our entire conversation.

King:"You girls will share a room and must never leave without one of my guards accompanying you. The man will stay in a workshop for the week with some of my best metal workers."

Falon:"We thank you for your generosity my lord."

The king waved a hand and we were escorted away by a guard. I got the feeling he didn't expect much from me. I worked for that entire week with the metal workers to create this worlds first cannon.

I met up with the girls again when the week was over.

Tessa:"You look terrible what happened?"

Falon:"I've just been working nonstop all week."

Jeanette:"Daddy these people are mean."

She said with a pouty face.

Falon:"They just don't trust us Jeanette, but that will change today when the king sees this cannon."

We were waiting outside for the king so we could show him the cannon. I saw him walking up to us with ten guards around him.

King:"Show me this weapon I have other business to attend to."

I had the cannon prepared before he even arrived so I touched the fuse hole with a torch. There was an explosion that caused the king to fall flat on his butt and all the guards pulled out swords. The cannon ball flew out and slammed into a tree destroying it. Wood chips went everywhere and the king just starred at the tree in disbelief.

Falon:"It makes a loud noise, but does a lot of damage."

The king stood up from the ground and look directly at me.

King:"You are welcome to join our people and I will put you in charge of military weapons."

He talked to another pretty boy for a while then left and the pretty boy came up to us.

Pretty Boy:"You will be given a house near the metal workers and report to the same workshop and continue your work. We will give you new workers to teach a different weapon to while the ones you worked with will continue building new cannons."

We got a small house so Ruby, Cal and Fraya shared a room while Tessa, Jeanette and I shared another. Tessa and I made Jeanette stay in the other room when we needed alone time.

The elves that lived near us that worked with metal got use to us and we even became friends. I continued to live and work there for another year with the girls.

We had been accepted into the elf society and their army was stronger than ever. The cannons had a little trouble being used close to the capital because of all the trees, but they were mostly used to guard the border.

Tessa was happy to see the city her mother grew up in so we took Jeanette on walks often to see different parts of it. We received no news on the heroes that were still running and the Demon King has yet to start a war against the elves.

*****************Leon POV*****************

We were marching towards Gart to reclaim it.

Isaac:"You look nervous Leon."

Leon:"I have a bad feeling about this battle."

Isaac:"If you die I'll make sure to ave he your death."

Leon:"I don't plan on dieing so there's no need."

The capital was only a few hours away from us and the battle will starting as soon as we get there. I saw a blur run by me and blood covered my vision. When I wiped it away soldiers all around me had there heads severed.

I drew my sword and looked around then I saw the hero Felicity with her long sword drawn. I remembered her hero weapon and knew that blur was her.

Leon:"Yooouuuuuu!!! Did this!"

I jumped off my horse towards her but she was so fast that I couldn't block as her sword went straight through my heart. The crystal that Falon gave me couldn't heal fatal wounds so I knew I would die without a healer. I fell to the ground and couldn't move. I could see Isaac getting off his horse, but he was being cautious.

A dark shadow appeared behind him and a dagger cut his throat. The wound started to heal, but the shadow shoved the dagger farther in and cut the head off. My consciousness started fading as I watched the shadow take human form and I saw Jack.

*So two heroes betrayed us.*
