《Romance of the Three Beasts》7.2 - Wolf's Faith

Out from the shadows, they came.

Wolf was upon them like a fury. Appearing as though he had come from thin air, he slashed at several of them with his Wolf Fang. His Wolf Fang slashed several of the bandits, easily tearing their armour apart. He made short work of the slavers as their screams and shouts echoed through the air.

Tak was beside him now, spear in hand. Her horse kicked a few of the men, easily bashing them down with strong hoof kicks. The camp was in chaos.

“Tiger.” Wolf said, and then his friend was gone, charging through the camp as he made a bee line towards the nearby cave. They needed to clear out the slavers, distracting them as Tiger was allowed free reign to go through the camp.

It took mere hours to arrive at the campsite from a full sprint. The four of them, horse included, were tired, though that wasn’t going to stop them from freeing Dragon. Plus, they had a wonderful evening catching up their strength within civilisation.

Wolf had picked up Dragons scent and had honed on to the camp. He noted there were about thirty or so men, which wouldn’t have been an issue, but he could feel the ache of many days travel through him. Even the rest hadn’t been enough.

“I’ll leave it to you.” He had said to Tiger, he knew that Tiger could still hear him.

Wolf and Tak remained side by side.

“Are you alright?” He asked Tak, who had pierced a man’s shoulder and then clubbed a woman across the side of her head with the blunt end of the spear. He took that as affirmation and kept striking various slavers, stepping aside to dodge any blows, bobbing and weaving between them. Then came out his Wolf Claw. He leapt forward and struck the slavers like a whirlwind, their armour and skin were cut with little effort.

Then he was beside Tak once more, kicking a slaver across their head, letting them slump to the ground. Tak was quick to use her advantage from the high ground atop her horse, and the horse could cover her rear. However, her strikes could only cover one flank properly, so she always had a single side exposed. Luckily for her, Wolf would cover that weakness. Then there was a moment of dread as his eyes quickly shot to the cave entrance. ‘Dragon…’ Then his thoughts came down to the present and he continued to fight. He had to remain by Tak’s side, unless she were to get swamped. However, they had beat down quite a few of their foes already.

Wolf panted and knelt to take a breath, taking a moment to rest. Sweat covered his brow, and he could feel his lungs burning. His body ached in that familiar way, some of his muscles strained. He flexed and relaxed them to soothe himself. It had been a long while since he had ran so much. Typically he’d run in the mornings to build up his stamina, it looked like he needed to run a lot more.

Around the pair lay about twenty or so slavers, either unconscious or wishing they were. Tak had killed a few of them, which had left a bad taste in Wolf’s mouth, but he couldn’t blame her for it. Her tribe was very different to the martial artists, and they held no qualms about killing. Well, not that the martial artists had any qualms about killing either. Though Wolf had cut into the slavers, the cuts were mostly superfluous, causing great pain than to actually allow them to bleed out.

Then Wolf swiftly made his way to the cave.
