Chapter 32
"How can you tell it is a dungeon light?" I ask the same man.
"Well, a normal torch would almost flicker out and die in this cold, however, your torch was just fine." Oh, I guess that is true. I can't feel the cold, so I don't know exactly how cold it is right now.
"I have another, if you want it," I say, taking the other torch from my inventory.
"Please, sir," A woman says to me, leaning over the side of the wagon. "Give the other torch to the other wagon. This one will be enough for us." Gosh, she makes it sound like they are super valuable.
I go into the shop once again and look for something to sell. I decide to sell seven pounds of iron, and buy seven more torches.
"Please, I have more." I say to the woman, and I take a torch in both hands. "I'll give three to each wagon."
"Thank you!" The woman says, and she takes a torch along with a woman sitting next to her. "Nordas bless."
After giving away three torches at that wagon, I give three torches to the other wagons. Apparently, they were already used to the freezing cold from the long trip they had before reaching here, and were all hoping for Saint Nordas to warm them once they reached the Holy Sword of Nordas. Whatever, Saint Papa Johns is all I need for religion. A few minutes later, the party from inside the inn come out.
"Hey, where did you all get those torches from?" Arnold, the first to leave the inn, asks. I hope this doesn't become a big deal.
"The adventurer there gave them to us," Someone in the wagon said. Yeah, just snitch on me when he asks, why don't yah.

"Those torches will go out soon, and any stray breeze will send them back to freezing." Arnold said, and he got up into the driver's seat of the wagon.
"No, sir adventurer, these are dungeon lights." Someone in the wagon corrected Arnold. It's kind of funny, hearing the people in the wagon talk like they are talking to a noble or something.
"A dungeon light?" Arnold questions, looking at me. Hey, I just found out too.
"Yeah, I had a few of them, so I'm letting them hold them for the trip." I say, not taking it as a big deal. I really want to just get on with the trip.
"You... You do know dungeon lights are illegal to buy, sell, or trade, right?" Arnold tells me, but, what? You can't sell it just because it never runs out?
"Why not?" I ask him, hoping to get some answers.
"To stop people from taking dungeon torches from inside the dungeons, the Empire set a ban on buying, selling, or trading dungeon torches. Anyone caught doing so is to be sent to prison." Damn, that sucks. I can get a huge amount of these, but I can't sell them for a profit. "Make sure you takes these back when we reach the destination. For now, climb into the passenger seat of the last wagon." Arnold said as he looked at me.
I start walking towards the last wagon in the row and I see a beautiful woman sitting in the driver's seat. I can't wait to have a kissing prank gone sexual with her. I climb up and sit next to her, but she doesn't say anything. Why not?
"Hi, I'm Khalid." I say to her in the smoothest way I can.

"What kind of weapon do you use?" She asks, not having any of my moves.
"I use a bow." I reply.
"I hope you're good with it, the Iron-Back Devil Hounds can be almost impossible to kill with a bow." Yeah, I know. I had to resort to trapping them.
"I've killed a few on my own." I say to her. It is quite funny how my experience with fighting Iron-Hide Devil Hounds matches up with this trip.
"Ooh, that's doubtful." She says, and officially enters bitch territory.
I don't say anything to her for the rest of the trip. We travel on the road for about ten hours before reaching the closer town. It took a little longer than when I ran by myself, but I usually took a direct path that the wagons would not be able to go.

Blurred Border
When all your life comes to a halt, when you lose all motivation to do anything, would be that bad to lose yourself in a game? For Sophia, it was not even a question, just a quiet acceptance that her life heads that way. Since her mother bought her an experimental VR capsule she found herself fully enamored by a fantasy world of a game. A world where she can be herself, without societal pressure or expectations. Such a shame that real life stands in the way.

The job was simple: find out why the barges had stopped coming down the river. Surely a group of war veterans could see to that, and have a few laughs along the way. But why had the baron prevented his own people from investigating? And why did their captain insist they journey covertly? Finding out the truth might cost them everything.
