Chapter 14
Over the course of the remaining ten and some hours, I kill two black bears and six more wolves. One arrow is enough to take out each wolf, but I need two arrows for the bears, of which I am able to recover one.
Reaching the town at the edge of the snowy forest, my inventory has changed only in the amounts of things that I have.
>**Inventory**
>Steel Bow, Used
>Iron Arrow x87
>String
>Rope
>Axe
>Knife
>Shovel
>Tanner's Rack
>Torch x2
>Dead Mountain Hare x5
>Dead Mountain Wolf x14
>Dead Black Bear x4
>Leather x1ft
>Mountain Hare Hide x6
>Mountain Wolf Hide x1
>Black Bear Hide x1
>Black Bear Meat x200lb
A very nice haul, if I do say so myself. The edge of the town has guard posts with arches in them, and I walk into the town without anyone stopping me. The archers are probably just for wild animals, and maybe monsters like those black mountain snakes.
It is very late at night, and I can't find a single shop open. Lucky for me, there is a tavern open and delicious smells coming from inside. I open the door to the tavern and see almost a dozen people sitting at tables around a large fire in the center of the room.
"Welcome, traveler." Someone says to me, and I look over to see an extremely short man.
"Hi," I say to him, and I walk towards the bar. "Can I get a room for the night?" I ask the man behind the counter, wiping a glass.
"Sure, but it's going to cost you 20 credits." Huh, so he can use credits too? Does that mean that everyone can use the shop on one day of the week?
One thing I need to learn, however, is how to make physical credits. My credits are part of my stats, not my inventory, so I can't take them out and hand them to the man.

"I've never done this before, so can you tell me how I give you credits?" I hope I'm not asking something too strange. The look on his face does not change, and he gives me a straight forward answer.
"Yeah, you just have to hold out your hand like this," The man put his hand out like he wanted to arm wrestle, and I did the same, grabbing his hand. "And say Transfer 20 credits. If you don't want to transfer the credits, it won't be done, but you have to say the phrase out loud and want to transfer credits for the transfer to happen."
Wow, this is a really helpfully system. Money can't be stolen, because it does not have a physical form, and it can't be taken by forcing the person to say the magic words. Credits are basically theft-proof.
"Transfer 20 credits." I say, and I decide to check my credits really quickly. 1350! Holy molly, I can buy a magic book!
The man behind the bar walks out and shows me to a room, and I walk inside and close the door. The warmth of the tavern is nice and feels strangely better than the cold of the wilderness. I don't really have any possessions not in my inventory, so I lay down on the bed and try to sleep. I want to wake up early to explore the town.
The next morning, the eighteenth day. Just three days, including this one, and the shop will be open again. It is still very early in the morning, so I go to the outskirts of the town and get out my tanner's supplies and tan the hides of the animals I killed.

>Black Bear Fat x50lb
I don't need the wolf meat, so I throw it out. I'm actually surprised at how I'm carrying over a thousand pounds of weight, but I guess that is just the magic of the inventory.
Once I finished dealing with the waste from the harvesting and moved everything I needed into my inventory, I went back to the town. A few shops are open already, but I check the butcher first. I've got 1,000 pounds of bear meat, and I want to sell!

The Complete Alchemyst book 1
You've heard of superheroes, seen them flying across the sky, destroying great swaths of cities and ending countless innocent lives in order to defeat great evils and world-spanning threats and sell lots of sponsorships and merchandising opportunities. This is a story about the guy that is not those heroes. A supervillain in a world where making the right friends and political contacts is what separates the good guys from the bad. The Alchemyst is a story about a normal guy in a crazy world that spends his time trying to follow his dreams and conscience, working on new potions, thinking about girls, and lifting heavy shit, while trying to stay under the radar of the superheroes, supervillains, and governments that want what he can do. And occasionally turning them into makeshift melee weapons. If you enjoy The Boys, the Aberrant roleplaying game, Mystery Men, Trashy romances, Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, or SAW you may enjoy this book. Please note that this book has extremely graphic and sometimes gross fight scenes, heroes as villains, villains as heroes, opinionated and often politically incorrect characters, some graphic sex scenes, dad jokes, dirty jokes, realistic depictions of romance and flirting, bondage and dominance themes, and more than a few cuss words when they are really appropriate. This is NOT a superhero genre deconstruction. Many heroes truly are heroes, and they don't all need to be destroyed to make a good story, but it does look into the dark side of superpowers and the unreasonable and often contradictory demands placed on exceptional people.
