《Puzzle: Theo's Virtual Quest》Chapter 4

Real-world distractions did naught in muddling the duelers' concentration. They were presently engaged in their imaginary world. To them, it was both physical and mental warfare, albeit persistence was the key.
The first sequence of rings went unnoticed, the second followed the similar steps as its predecessor, and as one would say, the third time was the charm. It happened to stray from the path set by the previous rings. It vaguely caught the attention of Robert.
He was so indulged in the duel that he thought Theo was making weird noises. They were promptly booted out of La La Land when the youngster also became conscious of the rings.
“What is that noise?”
“Wait a minute, won't you the one making it all this time?”
A shake of the head met with his question.
Both stood bemused, staring at one another like a bird gazing at a flying pig. The ringing resumed for the fourth consecutive time. Robert and Theo curiously looked around as they wondered where the dinging sound was coming from since their minds were slow on their journey back from the south.
Suddenly, Robert blurted out, “Oh no!”
His mind was the first to make its way back to reality. He was able to register what was producing the noise.
“I think the ding-ding is coming from the kitchen, Dada.”
Robert’s entire body felt an abrupt shock in an instant. He swiftly glanced down his wrist than at the clock in the living room. His eyebrows came close to touching the back of the neck.
“Shot! I was so lost in thought that I forgot about the online meeting this morning.”
“But aren’t you like the big boss guy or something? Being late would not be a problem.”
“That’s exactly why I cannot be late. I have to lead by example so that other people would not use me being late as an excuse for them being late.”
“Oh…”
“Don’t worry, Theo, it is complexed in its own right. You will learn all able these artful deeds when I’m not needed to purloin cookies from the cupboard for you.”
“Hey! I thought we were a team.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
Um- what does artful and purloin mean?”
“Well…I guess we can say when you used Linos to trick me into believing I sliced him was rather artful. Hmm- oh yeah, when Linos took my Anti-Magic sword is purloin.”
“I will add them to my list.”
Robert ran briskly upstairs to the home office. While leaving a few words for Theo, “Let’s continue this fierce duel some other time, alright, Sir Theodore.”

“I will win the other one!”
“Haha…Not a chance, kiddo.”
Feeling a bit sadden about his father’s withdrawal from their moment of merrymaking. Theo replied with a very monotone,
“Alrighty, next time, right…haa.”

Robert worked at home due to the presence of the virus. So, he had no choice but to put even more effort into the company than he used to do before the profits were on the decline.
His full name is Robert Theodore Anne Dorsey. He is a Tech-Wiz who always on the watch for new enjoyable tech places a grin on everyone's faces. Tinkering and improving devices is a forte of Robert that came about from a rather uncanny place.
From looking at the duel with his son, he had a short time ago. One can tell he is an imaginative person. He tends to create an entire fiction in his mind when doing the simplest of tasks, such as going to the convenience store or washing the dishes.
Although he would prefer to spend the day playing with Theo, work has a special place in his heart. His passion for manufacturing hi-tech devices runs deep. Reading the specs and details of every applies that passes through the house.
A childish charm still lurks within him as he only uses the smiley face emoticon on his face.
The German native is thirty-two of age with a published bronzed complexion. He gives lamp posts competition in height, black wavy low-cut hair, a messy yet cunning beard, and muddy brown eyes.
He is a manufacturer of various devices and gadgets for his co-owned company, DIY-Tech, where Robert partnered up with his friends from college to produce hi-tech toys and machines. For instance, VR headsets, drones, virtual simulation car racing, etc.
**
When Robert departed to work in his office, Theo was left with restrictions and couldn’t go past the front yard. Which meant the toddler had to linger indoors, not being free to go outside and frolic with his friends.
Theo had limited activities to do at home since it been a while lodging inside. So, he mainly spends his time watching TV, played in the backyard, and videogames. The TV show he adored gluing his eyes on was a cartoon on Net-Toons called “Adventure Bubbies.”
The cartoon consists of a diverse group of mystical creatures. Who goes on multiple magical quests for all types of compulsive treasures around the whimsical land of Lamper, where the succoring group aids the other residing creature, who lives in the world with their problems and receive rewards for their good deeds.
Five characters made up the Adventure Buddies group; these team-up creatures known as the Furlanders amongst the shedload of mystical beings inhabiting the myriad lands of Lamper.

Although they had not been task with assisting the creatures in their time of grief, the Furlanders still lend a hand, albeit for different reasons.
The kingdom of Lamper was an unhidden gem, filled with various kinds of other-worldly animalistic creatures who are full of energy and painted like a Claude Monet canvas. Throughout the majority of its vibrant spectacular regions’ scenery has hued cheerfully shaggy trees covered with luscious fruits embedded all over as a prodigious glimmering turquoise river flows across the lands.
Alongside the occupying mystical creatures’ lodges, some in sleeping huts while others live in sturdy trees. There were designated areas set for the contrasting species.
The ancient stone castle, towering over the land named Cloverdrop, is located in the capital. Which also has the same name as the mentioned castle.
Howbeit, where there’s light; there’s a lurking shadow. A region of Lamper known as the Nightfall Fortress, a place where even the Grim Reaper himself will think twice before entering. Where the abode of the mystical creatures who are malicious and eager to take another one’s life without warning. Some Nightfall Fortress dwellers include Trolls, Ogres, and Cyclopes. Keeping a considerable distance away from those woods would not be the worst idea.
These mystical creatures roaming their respected nations come in all shapes and sizes, from exquisite to crude and gigantic to tiny.
Examples of some pure and elegant life forms are unicorns, who are viewed as the jewels of the kingdom. This legendary animal looks like a horse with the power of divine truth and immense magical aptitude, has a single horn on its forehead, and often envied by the other creatures.
Another magnificent life form in the land is the fairies. Usually, they are spirited and lovely creatures with magical powers, although sometimes fairies can be mischievous or even spiteful.
The unicorns and fairies are perceived to be the government figures of Lamper.
Whereas the gigantic, fire-breathing, serpentine dragons are the defense forces that maintain law and order in the land. But at times, they abuse their authority over the weak.
Ogres, Trolls, and other Nightfall Fortress wanderers are labeled outsiders around the Lamper. Because of this disunity and inequalities between the creatures. Several problems came into being, and this is when the Furlanders intervenes to resolve the concerns.
The five characters within the helping group called the Adventure Buddies are as followed; Serenity the unruly Unicorn, Tailgate the Dispirit Fairy, Yzaaak the Centaur, yes that’s all to him, Selly the Greedy Leprechaun, and Jellymint the Sly Imp.
Serenity is a unicorn whose discerned as unruly because she broke a horn while playing at a young age. This mishap created conflicts between her and the other unicorns. The teasing led to her getting treated differently and called her by Hornless. Unicorns discerned their horns as a symbol of beauty.
To be frank, horns are supremely important in Lamper because the unicorns with the sublime horns; are chosen as King and Queen. The current rulers are Pixie and Sparkles.
Tailgate was looked at as an outlander by his peers since fairies are supposed to spread happiness and put a sense of joy in the air, so the fact he was a flying load of blandness made him get booted out of his homeland.
Yzaaak has a particular passion for helping others, which is somewhat seen as strange by other creatures. Centaurs are discriminated against creatures frequently.
It is because of their appearance resembling that of the unicorn. So, this made the Centaurs viewed as a failure and dirty version of the pure creature. But it seems to have no impact on Yzaaak as he has a sense of authority and is delighted with the idea of assisting others.
Selly is to a great extent known to be as money-hunger as the man Scrooge himself, Leprechaun, who is pleased with the naked truth that he only helps others for the reward. So, if you’re in a pickle, however, you’re broke as a church mouse or a joke that ain’t funny, then you’re better off trying to help yourself when he’s around. Be that as it may, he is also familiar with being all smiles and crack jokes regularly. Only when the money is right, though.
Jellymint has a cunning and deceitful nature and does not put water in his mouth when saying what’s on his mind. He enjoys seeing others struggle before helping them.
This little fiend looks like a stuffed animal who can fly; with large drooping ears like Dumbo, all-seeing eyes, a small yet heighten nose, a fang on the left side of this mouth, two small horns to sort of justify his devilish habits, hair white as wool, green fur be like the Grinch’s, wearing red bow tie and shoes.
He may seem a bit familiar since Theo’s imaginary friend, Linos, is highly inspired by Jellymint. However, the name Linos came from a friend Theo who lives where his grandparents reside in Palermo, Italy.
Both of the youngsters would play with their imagination and go around assisting people, imitating the Adventure Buddies as they venture on their pretend quests. They were as thick as thieves.

A World Forgotten
***This story will contain lite-litrpg elements, mainly character pages and a town page. There will also be settlement building and adventuring, missteps and achievements. But one thing it definitely won’t have is a harem. Nor will it have an overpowered MC. Contains mild cursing.*** ***feel free to critique my writing and offer input. This is my first venture into writing. I've always enjoyed litrpg/gamelit books. I feel like I write how I talk, so it may be a little different. You won't hurt my feelings if you see something wrong or out of place! *** ***What follows is a condensed part of chapter 1. Enjoy!*** Drew Cooper is thrust into a new, unfamiliar world. Waking up in his sweats and t-shirt near what seems to be a forgotten path through some woods, he struggles coming to terms that he's no longer in his apartment. As he tries to cope with his new reality, he hears a horse coming down the path. He hides behind a nearby tree dreading what may happen next. As the horse approaches, he sees a man walking next to it. The horse is burdened with packs and gear. When the man nears, Drew nearly panics. He has a large sword strapped to his waist, obviously a fighter. He continues to hide as the man slowly passes only for the man to stop a dozen meters past his hiding spot. "You may as well come out, ya know. You weren't as well hidden as you thought," the man stated matter-of-factly, letting the horse’s reins go and putting his hand on the hilt of his sword. Slowly and scared for his life, Drew raised up and walked from behind the tree. "I-I'm sorry. I wasn't planning on attacking you. I-I don't know where I am. I heard your horse and hid. I didn't know what you'd do if you saw me. I'm sorry," he nervously blurted out. A minute passed. Then two. The man seemed interested with Drew and stepped closer, eyes squinting as if trying to see something. "What's that on your shirt? Is that. What is that? Is that, Pac-man?" The man was visibly shaken while pointing at me. Looking down at his t-shirt nervously, "Yea. Yea. I woke up here a few hours ago I think. 3 maybe 4 hours. I’ve just been sitting here. Where am I? What's going on?" Drew asked. "That's not important right now," the man replied. " What's important is where you're from. What year is it?" "What year? April something 2020. Why? What's going on?" Drew continued now worried. The man was taken aback. After a few moments, he seemed to calm himself some. The man sighed and looked at Drew in earnest. "Well, I've got good news and bad news for ya. Bad news is you're not on Earth anymore. Good news is you happened to run into me and not someone else. You’re either really lucky, or it’s fate we met in these woods, and I don’t believe in luck." The man continued to walk towards Drew while talking and put out his hand. "I'm John Mitchell from St. Louis or thereabouts. You’ve got nothing to be scared of by me. Walk with me and let’s talk."

A World With or Without Aliens
Nothing matters. It's not my opinion, it's a scientific fact. This is neither good nor bad, it just... is. I watched my entire country burn, fried on a patriotic pan after some jerk fired a bunch of nukes at the docile fleet of alien ships hovering over us. Who gave this moron such power? I don't know. Everyone involved is most likely dead by now. As for me, I can't die. I feel pain like a normal person would (I think), but no matter how terrible the conditions, I will never die or pass out. Fortunately, a lot of alien technology survived its crash to Earth, so I get to spend some time playing with it until Mr. Author gets bored and decides to screw up my life. Beware, this has a "harem" tag. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm the main character and am therefore subject to this novel's timeline. While this bars me from the sweet ignorance of Chapter 1's me, it does have other perks... for example, I can tell you that heroine number one is personally responsible for kil-!? H-hey, back off! I'm your character, so if you didn't want me to be like this, then you should've written me differently! Randomguy here! In all seriousness, this novel is meant to explore the concept of nihilism as a post-apocalyptic/supernatural-scifi/satire told from a nihilistic introvert's first-person perspective. As you heard from my unsettled main character, each heroine is going to be a different type of horrifying socio/psychopath with dark motives and dangerous abilities (most of which are psychological). Why would I do something like this? Because I am, in reality, a nihilist who is often frustrated by weird things, like unrealistically dramatic stories, the industrialization of art (specifically music), and people who think swimming in brown creekwater for five hours is a "fun" activity. Don't get me wrong, neither me nor my character are depressed, we're just malcontents who make a lot of nerd references. I feel like the true essence of an "everything is worthless" perspective is lost on most pop-culture figures. The closest character I can think of at the moment is Rick from Rick and Morty, who is a drunk, angry nihilist that experienced tremendous loss. I, personally, find this belligerent state of mind to be very relatable, and have incorperated it into every chapter's introduction. Here, the main character talks directly to the reader (and me), shamelessly complaining about some semi-relevant facet of society, which probably doesn't make much sense... it's not really supposed to, though. These "angry nihilist" moments are just a peak into the main character's everyday existence, and also act as miniature rage-journals for me. It will sometimes take a subjectively 'positive' turn, but not very often. This is because reality isn't good or bad, "it just... is". I will eventually bring it full-circle to optimistic nihilism, since that seems to be a more practical way to live (and by "practical", I mean "doesn't create mental health issues"). It is, of course, a satire. I did this because most unnecessarily emotional moments or people usually make me feel kind of awkward, so I decided to mock them. That is, I plan to mock the characteristics about them I don't like in characters based solely off said characteristics. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy my story!
