《Supreme Skeleton》Struggle

"Tch...the number of divine beasts is less than anticipated. Would this amount be enough for a few more days of experiments?" asked Katherina with a dissatisfied look. She spent her own time and power just to come to this forest and ensure the completion of the mission. However, even after several hours of searching, they only found three beasts with divine powers.
"This is definitely not the biggest catch so far, but don't worry. I heard that your younger brother will bring many divine beasts in a few days, so I can keep my hands steady for now." The professor replied while tilting his glasses slightly.
"That's right, my brother has quite a collection," Katherine smiled broadly, causing a set of white teeth to protrude from between her thin lips, "Don't disappoint me, Professor. My eldest brother will be very angry if he finds out that all the resources he spent to recruit you would turn out to be useless."
"You underestimate me, Miss Katherine. I'm the number one genius on the entire continent, if not the entire world."
"Mmm," Katherine nodded as she looked down at the ground where a green-skinned salamander was struggling to catch its breath. Katherine's eyes flickered with killing intent while her hands got covered in a thin layer of Qi. Without further ado, she finished the beast off by punching it a few more times.
"Miss Katherine, your control over Qi is growing by the day," the professor said. Although he wasn't interested in fighting and Qi, he knew that Katherine's progress was incredible, even for someone from a royal family.
"I should be able to break through to the Expert Qi level soon," Katherine muttered nonchalantly.
"Expert?!" The professor's eyes widened in disbelief. Breaking through to the Expert Qi level at 18 was no easy feat. Even the top-notch geniuses wouldn't be too confident to have an ability to advance so promptly.

"Yes, a--" Katherine paused mid-sentence as she stuck her ear out, seemingly hearing something in the distance.
"Bark! Bark!" the cries of Fenrir reached the ears of the princess, who immediately rushed forward. While Fenrir continued to bark, Katherine already appeared behind him.
"A newborn silver wolf?" Katherine smiled broadly, "Professor, use your machine!"
"One second!" The professor shouted, pulling something out of his pocket. After closing the distance to Katherine, Professor wrapped the strange object around his hand, making it look somewhat similar to a glove.
"Bark!!! Bark!!!" Fenrir finally noticed the uninvited guests as he moved backward with slow steps until reaching the skeleton's body.
"Such an aggressive newborn. Is he trying to defend his food?" Katherine looked towards the pile of bones, intrigued, "Hm...strange. How come this corpse is still in such good shape? Shouldn't it have been devoured by the beasts in this area by now?"
"It doesn't matter, it's just a corpse." The professor replied as saliva dripped from his mouth and his breathing intensified, "Don't be afraid, Wolfie, no one will hurt you."
'Disgusting,' Katherine cursed internally, seeing the professor's frenetic eyes.
"Nnnn..." Fenrir became incredibly frightened when he saw the huge hand, wrapped in some strange material, slowly descending on him. However, he didn't run away or even vault from the spot, thinking they were trying to attack the skeleton.
Crank!
Without further ado, Fenrir bit into the stranger's hand. To his surprise, the surface of the glove was as soft as gum that had been chewed for a few hours.
Bam!
With a strange sound, the gauntlet lit up in red while the professor's face turned angry, veins popped out on his forehead.
"Useless beast!" The professor grabbed Fenrir in one of his hands, beginning to squeeze it with all the force he could muster, "Disgusting creature!"

"Growl!" Fenrir tried to get away from the human, but with his current strength, it was an impossible feat.
"Enough, Professor," Katherine suddenly appeared directly in front of Fenrir, her eyes filled with coldness, "I want this beast as my pet. Don't kill him"
"What?! Isn't he just a useless silver wolf with no divine powers? There are plenty of better choices, especially for a member of the royal family." The professor faltered as he loosened his grip on Fenrir.
"Beasts with divine powers are difficult to control, and I don't have the nerve or time to train them," Katherine explained as her eyes flickered red, "Now let him go."
"Sigh..." The professor let out a rustle as he threw Fenrir directly at Katherine, who caught him with one hand.
"Bark! Bark!" Fenrir tried to break free from Katherine's embrace, but it was even more laborious than before.
Katherine placed her long nail on Fenrir's body, sliding it through his fur with a smile, "Behave, doggie, if you don't want to die!"
"Waul..." Fenrir instantly fell silent, feeling Katherine's sharp nail slowly skimming through his body.
"Since we have taken this wolf. We should also bring these bones with us" Professor said before adding, "It can serve as nutrition and energy for the beasts before I start experimenting on them. After all, I need them in their best form to get enough data from the analyzes."
"Don't you have a lot of bones leftover from the beasts you killed earlier? Why do you need more?"
"I've almost used them all up. Besides, the quality of these bones is many times higher"
"Do whatever you want, but I won't touch these disgusting bones. Who knows how long they've been lying here" Katherine rolled her eyes to the side, beginning to walk away from the scene.
'Such a strange woman...' The professor sighed and looked towards the corpse below. He took the leg of the body into his grasp and headed south, pulling the cadaver from behind.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
