《Mana-Script》Chapter 27 - Tournament (3)

The crowd was electric, Nerissa had stirred them up something fierce. It was such a display that Jude had even forgotten his nerves. Not everyone in Mana-Script’s seating area had been rooting for her, but none could deny what a performance she had put on. There was a downside, the people following had to do something to keep the crowd going otherwise they would grow bored.
Though there were some matches that did spark something in the crowd, nothing had reached the level of excitement Nerissa had achieved.
There were two that did entertain at least briefly. They were two of the ones Jude had taken note of back at the testing area.
The Ninja’s match was quite interesting. Most people were well aware that the ‘abilities’ of ninjas had been greatly exaggerated over the years, however Sho Sarutobi was able to use a majority of them. Descended from a long line of practicing ninjas Sho had always been in love with the idea of ninja. Amused by his enjoyment his mother taught young Sho everything that had been left to her.
Shinobi were not needed in the modern day, spies and espionage was far more suited to a sauce killer than one in the shadows. However, true to their names meaning, they endured. Their lessons, their techniques, and their lifestyle passed through the generations. He had grown up in a very drab part of England, played with his friends as normal, trained his body using the ninja way, and studied as he should at school.
When he was a teenager he saw a small child wander into a very small portal that had appeared in the middle of the forest. Without hesitation he followed them through, trying to rescue them. Upon arriving on the otherside was a giant centipede like creature, it had reared itself up to attack the child.

Without hesitation his alteration manifested, he moved with immense speed and grabbed the child. Weaving hand signs together he set the insect ablaze before summoning a ninjato sword and slicing it in half.
With a dirty school uniform he returned the child back to his parents and reported the incident to the police, who immediately cornered off the area. He had a truly heroic heart but he would also do anything to win, no hesitation.
In his battle he had to fight against a woman with the ability to create a sonic scream. The first time she did it she brought Sho to his knees, bursting his ear drums. The recording equipment had peaked and the audience recoiled. Unfortunately she, like many of this first generation, had yet to master he power so she could only do it for short bursts.
Without hesitation, Sho used his Bushin (clones) and created an army of fifteen of himself. His opponent kept screaming at the circle of clones around her. Each one disappearing in a haze when attacked. She was worn out very quickly, only to feel the cold steel on her neck of a sword.
Without hesitation the modern day ninja did what his ancestors had passed down and silenced his opponent.
With that he had won.
The other interesting match was the guy who had black lines on his jaw and wore a hoodie. He was against an opponent who controlled earth. A hulking mass of a man even bigger than Natasha. However Simon Parker did not seem deterred, in fact he displayed little emotion at all. When the fight began Simon’s opponent planted their feet.
A buzzing noise could be heard as Simon’s hoodie began to flutter and a small golden glow came from underneath it. He bent his knees and faced his opponent. His legs bulged in an unnatural amount before resetting when he rocketed off. At some point he must have flipped around because his foot found itself lodged in the mass’s abdominals.

A kick so powerful a small shockwave came out of it. Yet the immovable object did not move. Feet firmly planted and rooted into the arena itself. Simon pushed himself off before he could be grabbed. He tried again a few more times, he was definitely doing damage.
The issue was an elemental user’s body changes to match their alteration. For example those who use fire gain a natural resistance to fire and earth users gain stronger muscles but become slower and heavier because of it. The muscled man had already trained his body. So his muscles were huge and powerful, not to mention he was so lumbering that it would be hard for anyone to move him.
It only took a few attempts before Simon decided to switch tactics. In the blink of an eye he appeared in front of the monster. Black lines shot up his arm and onto his palm. Creating a circle that opponent to a golden light before the words “Concussive blast changed to lethal” echoed from the man’s chest and the light turned red.
With a powerful explosive blast from his palm of energy he had become the victor.
Jude, Rin, Damian, and even Nerissa snapped their heads to Jack. “Cyborg.” He stated it so matter of factly, and proceeded to do finger guns at his friends.
The final fight that interested Jude, but not the crowd was someone who Nerissa would be facing in the second round. The fight began but as soon as her opponent approached her, the woman in casual clothes said something just that the two of them could hear. Then her opponent just walked out of the arena.
The crowd booed, livestream watchers claimed it was rigged, and Jude seemed scared.

The Heart Grows
Dungeon games? Yeah, they're a good way to waste a few hours. The trick is to know the map and plan appropriately. Of course, it doesn't matter if you get beaten. You revise your plan for that map and do a bit better next time. Man, it'd really suck to wake up as a dungeon heart in a fantasy world you know nothing about, barely able to even work out how to control your dungeon. Lucky that wouldn't happen to anybody, huh? What with only having one chance at getting things right, you'd have to plan extra-defensive. This story should be getting chapters published weekly. I have a comfortable buffer set up and on top of the weekly writing I am committing, a commissioner has donated two monthly writing slots to ensure this remains on a weekly schedule. There will be a stat block at the beginning of every chapter bar the first, and a handy map at the end. All my works come with a CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. This means you are free to download, publish, and even make derivative works of my writing so long as you include this license, attribution, and don't sell the works. Keep it free!
