《Mana-Script》Chapter 4 - Failure

Jude had his head against the wall. Now his tears had dried and left his eyes red. His arm now in a cast of solid rock.
Nerissa was nowhere to be seen; she had gone beneath the canopy to proceed with the test. It had been only a couple of minutes since she had left but Jude felt utterly worthless.
“Fucks sake man. Not only did you have to go and try and make yourself look cool, but you also had to do it to a girl that was far stronger.” He thought to himself.
“I hope the other zones are doing better than me.”
The test had been split up into six zones. Jude had come up with a plan to split his team of twenty-four into pairs. Each pair was either made for a specific purpose in the areas they would go in or if they had Alterations that covered weaknesses of each other.
The six zones were:
Jungle
Desert
Arctic / Tundra
Urban / City
Cave System
Plains
At the current time Jude’s Jungle team had collected four of the ten items. Only one of those was from his pair.
Desert: 5
Arctic: 8
Urban: 2
Cave: 4
Plains: 5
There had been a scuffle in the desert.
Two teams had met however, unlike in the jungle, all four of each side were there. Team Blue had dominated Yellow. It felt almost surgical how brutal they had been.
One slash was all it took to deal a lethal blow to two, even though it was made with pure wind.
The other two left standing were not there for long as the blood that had floated in the air immediately flowed into a blade that slit their throats.
The Arctic had not had many scuffles. Blue’s main tactic was scouting and collecting items, avoiding conflict at any opportunity. Using the ability to summon and possess a bird like creature, popping in and out of portals and being guarded by another two was the way to go for this team.

The Cave has no conflicts. Down to the fact there had been such a complex tunnel system in place. Everyone was lost in there. Luckily, team blue had someone who could create and control fire and light, so at least they could see. Well, they could see how lost they were.
The Plains had been a battlefield. A flying healer who could manage to stay out of the conflict was good for after the battle but fighting just meant that there was once less combatant. Fortunately, another two had picked up the torch.
They had stood back-to-back. The ground below them was scorched, all grass was now ash in the wind. The air crackled with electricity. The opponents had the choice an electric shock paralysing them or a black fire burning them to a crisp; either would take them back to their respawn point but both would be unimaginable pain.
The zones had been arranged in a two by three pattern. On the left column was Jungle, Plains and Cave. The right was Arctic, Desert and Urban.
Blue’s respawn point was down by Jungle. Red pupils respawned by the Plains. Yellow team would respawn by the Urban.
The reason the respawning by Urban was important to their strategy was because Yellow had split no one up.
The Urban environment had originally been a representation of an average city center on a small scale. A few skyscrapers, cafes, shops and even a small town hall at the end. Now, it was wrecked. Everything had been upturned in the rampage.
All four members of Blue never stood a chance against that slaughter.
The machine that was Team Yellow was twenty four strong and it kept marching. There was no time for feeling, they kept moving. At the ten-minute mark they moved from the Urban zone and were about to enter the Desert.
It would not be long until they had wiped out everyone in Blue and Red on the right side and would soon move over to the left with Jude.
Jude incidentally had resolved himself to climb down his tree only to find the four from the Urban environment entering his chamber.
Spotting his friend in a red workout top he called out. “Jack!”

Unliving
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon, November 2021] For the longest time, Aideen Fiachna had only one prescient wish; to be the daughter her parents could take pride in. The idea was a tall order, especially as her father stood at the head of the Templar order, and her grandfather as the Pope. However, she endeavored to try nonetheless. Yet fate had a different path in store for her. For all her efforts, all her best laid plans, were but the broken off crumbs of 'one day'. That day, she was brutally slain by a vile, accursed undead being. Though, not even restful eternity awaited her in death. She awakened inside a coffin. Her coffin. During her own funeral wake. Discovering, to her horror, that she had risen. Not somehow resurrected, no, but back in the form of that most hated of beings--the curse of undeath. What will fate deal her next? Chapters will range from 1-2.5k words, scheduled for release every day from Monday to Friday. --------------------------------------- Expect: -Character progression in a journey of self discovery that spanned the ages -World building -Tragedy and Comedy in roughly equal measures -Occasional action Do not expect: -Much in terms of romance -Politics, barring passing views and mentions -A lighthearted tale. Dispatches from the Inter-galactic
Dispatches From The Inter-Galactic is a series of loosely related satirical stories which take place in a galaxy full of various interstellar civilizations and numerous space faring species generally described as consentients. This series is set in a galaxy which take place in a similar but not entirely unlike the galaxy in which my series Up in Space takes place While there are numerous themes related to interstellar life, several of the stories directly relate to specific themes such as; The pan-galactic ramifications to the use of supersymetrical energy sources (often drained from intera-located alternate and pocket realities.) the use of which by most interstellar civilizations is steadily increasing the overall amount of Dark Matter. This is increasing the mass of the galaxy and results in the occasional rips in inter-dimensional space as well as an overall increase in supernova activity. It is also speeding up the approach of the galaxy in Andromeda, which is of concern to several long lived civilizations; The Morphoids, a race of shape-changing consentients who are capable of using the space lanes created by the use of supersymetrical sourced energy to spread throughout the galaxy. They are currently viewed as threat number one by many space-faring species; and Xeno and exo-sexuality, as many species try to figure out what sort of enjoyment they can have with many of the species they encounter in space (only some of which are carbon-based, or more rarely, humanoid in appearance). This also relates to the altering of species to make reproduction somewhat easier for those with rather complicated lifestyles. A major force in this area of pursuit is the galactic visiteering industry, which promotes the ‘uplifting’ of more primitive planet-bound near-consentients.

[Don't] Fear the Dragon!
Do yourself a favour and, if the chance to become a dragon in a different world ever arrives, reject it as kindly as possible. As for myself? I didn't have much say in the matter. I've wanted one thing, and one thing alone in this life—to be left alone. But these humans are beyond stereotypical. None of the other dragons let them in on the secret that we only hoard treasure in order to bait the fools. Or how it's a common belief that we eat humans for breakfast. Seriously! Not even a village would substitute as a snack. How do they think people taste anyway? Gross! But it doesn't matter if you hide away in your cave, doing nothing. Some hero is bound to find and attempt to slay you anyways. Or weird cultists offering sacrifices at your door. But there was this princess that asked me to kidnap her one time. Now that was an interesting one... [Updated daily at 11 PM | EST!]
