《Immortal Bloodshed》Chapter 5 | Finding A New Nest

It was time to leave. The dragon had killed the boss of the dragon and it was now the strongest monster. There was no more prey stronger than it to hunt. It was time to move on from the place of its birth.
The sentimental moment didn't last as the dungeon started to change.

The dragon was surrounded by a tunnel of light before it found itself in a new environment.
The smell of grass and flowers was the first thing it noticed. Having been in the damp dungeon all its life the dragon never enjoyed smelling until now. Trees stood tall surrounding it, the dragon could see a small hill, the only other thing besides it in the clearing. It walked over to the hill to inspect it, ignoring the bees and other insects that fluttered by.

It looked away from the dungeon and the time in its vision vanished. So that was the dungeon where it was born. Maybe it will come back one day. But for now it was time to see what it could hunt in this above ground area.
The dragon could already detect many monsters surrounding it. Learning its mistake with the crocodile it went for one equal in strength to it. It was always better to test out new monsters around the same strength as it. Before learning their weakness the dragon did not want to fight those stronger than it.
…
The dragon was walking through the forest until it came near the prey it was hunting. By using Blood Sense the dragon was able to watch the prey move through the trees while its huge body was blocked from view. After observing the prey the dragon learned how it hunted. This monster was similar to the wolf, but smaller and its tail was bushy.
The dragon used the same tactic as usually and used a blood phantom to lure the monster. Expectedly the monster was able to catch the clone before it reached the dragon's hiding spot. This monster focused on speed, despite being the same level it was much faster than the dragon. The second clone came out of a bush and caught the monster's attention just as it dispatched the first one. This one lasted until it reached the dragon.

[ Forest Fox Lv 7]
The dragon was already prepared and bit at the place the fox would appear. Thus it could not use its speed to dodge away.
*Snap!*
The Fox's spine was instantly broken and with its small body the blood was quickly extracted, killing it.
[You have consumed potent blood, XP Gained!]
[Blood Sense has grown from Lv5->Lv6]
…
The dragon once again found a fox to hunt. But this time it was going to do away with ambush tactics. It could not always have the element of surprise in a fight...well...with Blood Sense it could but it didn't want to rely on this crutch any longer.
The dragon tried to fight a fox. However, as soon as the fox caught sight of the dragon, a monster the same level as it. It Immediately bolted in the opposite direction. With this happening to 4 other foxes the dragon gave up testing its ability to fight head on and went to search for the next monster at its level.
…
The dragon was walking towards a pond where it sensed the monster surrounded by many others like it, when suddenly water shot from the pond in a column at it.
The dragon tried to quickly move out of the way, but the water was moving too fast. It missed the dragon front leg that it was able to move but hit the back one.
*Crunch*
With a sickening noise the dragon back leg bone was broken. The pain hurt but this was nothing compared to what happened in the dungeon. The dragon quickly activated Lifeforce Conversion and focused back on the pound.
A karps head was sticking out and seemed to be grinning, if a fish can truly grin. Another water column was launched, but this time the dragon was able to avoid it since it knew what would happen. Even as it hobbled out of the way with its three working legs the dragon realized.
‘Surprise is really an important factor in a fight.’
The dragon kept dodging while its broken bone was slowly mended by the lifeforce.
[Blood Conversion has grown from Lv6->Lv7]
[Karp Lv7]
After its leg fully healed the dragon decided to do something different than immensely pouncing on its prey. While dodging it noticed that Karp could move large volumes of water when it attacked the dragon up until this point was only able to keep two small blood balls and a phantom stable with its manipulation.

It decided to learn from this enemy instead of immediately going for the kill. Making blood with Blood Conversion the dragon immediately changed the blood into balls before dodging another column. It mixed the balls together to make a column similar to the fishes but much smaller.
Next time a column was thrown the dragon pitted its column of blood against it. The result? The dragon immediately had to dodge a column of water that was now slightly colored red. But it did not give up. Each time it failed the dragon was able to make a column slightly bigger and throw it with more control.
The dragon eventually stopped its training, with only ¼ its mana left it didn't feel safe bringing the amount any lower. However, training with the Karp was not a waste.
[Blood Manipulation has grown from Lv7->Lv8]
Its blood column was now half the size of the karps and it was able to throw it at the same speed. In terms of blood balls it could now control four blood balls and a phantom or one large object like a column or dragon blood clone. As a sign of thanks for help with its training the dragon decided to not eat the Karp and left to find another monster to fight. Before that it needed to hunt some move foxes to refill its blood mana.

…
The dragon is currently climbing up a very steep hill or a mountain. The reason is that it sensed a monster the same level as it with a nest at the very top. The top of the mountain was devoid of other monsters and now that the dragon could not fit in any rat or fox nests it decided this one would be the best. The being it was about to fight was similar in size to it, so hopefully that meant the dragon could fit in its nest.
The cave it found was dark, no light was able to enter its depths. The dragon that had no problem seeing in the dark since it was a hatchling did not care about this and followed the winding cave towards its prey. The dragon was getting really tired of nothing wanting to fight head on with it so it decided to be a little reckless and try with this untested monster.
[Rock Bear Lv7]
The dragon did not hide its approach so the sound of its deep footsteps alerted the bear to its presence. The bear had pieces of earth stuck to it that should act as protection. The dragon decided it would not strike those areas and started the fight by throwing a column of blood at the bear's head.
The projectile was able to stun the bear but its thick skull combined with the rock armor stopped its head from being shattered. The dragon took this chance to bite into the side of the bear. It decided to try to throw the bear at the wall like how it was thrown as a snake. The dragon was able to toss the bear but it felt pain coming from its right shoulder. The bear was able to rake its claws down the dragon's leg as it was being thrown.
The wound isn't deep so the dragon decides to focus on the fight and heal its injuries after. The bear made cracks in the wall where it was thrown. The dragon pins the bear to the wall with its front legs. Biting the bear's leg the dragon pulls, while this is happening it feels pain near its stomach. It ignores this in favor of causing more damage to the bear.
*Plop*
The dragon was able to rip off the bear's front leg but after backing away it released the bear and was able to take a bite out of its midsection. The bear was able to cause a larger wound than it was.
The dragon looks back at the bear and notices it's not continuing its attack. It appears to want to wait for the dragon to weaken from its wounds before dealing the final blow. With the biggest wound the dragon should fall victim to blood loss first. The dragon decides to play along with this assumption. It slows down the bleeding of its wound but doesn't stop it to make the bear think it is still in a dangerous spot. It also slowly increases the blood flowing out of the bear's wound. It gently increases the flow so the bear doesn't notice the dragon tempering.
Eventually the bear gets into a desperate spot. It's very close to passing out from its blood loss while the dragon seems fine. In its worry it attempts a last ditch attack against the dragon. But instead of fighting head on the dragon just shamelessly launches blood columns at the bear while running away.

Terry starts to train as a pure mana cultivator but never stops looking for his own path as a mage – day after day, season after season, always searching for compatible spellwork… Until finally, Terry’s perseverance earns him a single spell – the only spell he will ever be able to cast. Disclaimers: Chapter Frequency: I aim for one chapter a week. Chapter Length: I try to keep chapters between 3000 and 6000 words. Binge Preference: I plan for 30 chapters per arc. If you want to binge a complete arc, then that is the number to wait for. I will also add a line to chapters indicating the beginning and end of an arc. Advanced Access: I have created a patreon page with early access to four chapters for patrons. What to Expect: Progression fantasy with a western fantasy setting and with eastern fantasy elements. A main character that is forced to explore a very narrow path of magic due to a permanent condition. A main character that is a part of a larger cast. A main character that is growing but won't become the strongest around anytime soon. A story following a single main character but with introduction or theme setting scenes without the main character. What Not to Expect: Edgy grimdark characters – I will never write a sexual violence scene or gory descriptions of torture. I hate reading it and I would hate writing it even more. Romance – romantic relationships will never be the focus of the story and only appear in the background. The main character is preoccupied with other stuff. Other forms of relationships (family, friends, companions) play a bigger role. Cover: The cover art was commisioned from redditor Linh-Nguyen87. The font is alita brush by Inovatype Typefoundry. Overview: 001–030 Arc 1, Cultivating Perseverance: complete. 031–060 Arc 2, Undying Defiance: complete. 061–090 Arc 3, Unyielding Fury: scheduled for publishing. 091–120 Arc 4, Savage Hope: scheduled for publishing. 121–150 Arc 5, Self-Made Fate: first draft in progress. 151–180 Arc 6, Heretic Style: sketching in progress.
