《Immortal Bloodshed》Chapter 4 | Bloodline

After hunting for days the snake finally could evolve. Soon it would be strong enough to have revenge on that pack of annoying crocodiles. But for now it was time to Choose.
[Your title [One Who Chooses] is reacting strongly.]
[Your Choices are being altered.]
[Please choose a Bloodline to progress in.]
[Warning! A Bloodline can only be chosen at level 5 after that it is impossible to change.]
[Ouroboros]
[Feathered Serpent(Blood)]
[Blood Dragon]
[Ouroboros: Oroborus is that snake that swallows the world. It is the bringer of Ragnarok and ends the world on Chaos orders. A fully grown Ouroboros will end the current world and start the cycle of the next one. This will fully remove your blood affinity and replace it with Divine Energy(Chaos) affinity.]
[Feathered Serpent(Blood) It is the direct progression of the Elemental Snake Bloodline. Feathered Serpents are usually found around the environment changed by a dragon and thus spawned from its mana. They are similar to a dragon but have less potential and affinity for their element.]
[Blood Dragon: A Dragon that controls the affinity of blood. Dragons are able to grow by eating objects that contain their elements mana and they have an unhealthy obsession towards those objects, wanting to hord them if they are unworthy of contributing towards its growth. The pathway of blood is new and thus not much is known about it. However Dragons are monsters with the potential to reach Apotheosis.]
The choices the snake is given are amazing. For a full minute it is caught in a fantasy of all the new power it could have with each form. Eventually it comes too and seriously reads through the options.
‘Ouroboros sounds strong. I would be able to keep my current form as a snake while eventually having the power to destroy the world. I don't know what Divine Energy is but it sounds strong.’
‘Feathered Serpent seems like the weakest one. It could be considered if it was only Ouroboros and it. I don't want to lose my affinity for blood, my life's purpose isn't just for more power. Lucky there is the last option.’
‘Blood Dragon is the best choice. I will keep my affinity for blood and it will even get stronger. The only issues would be how the obsession would change me, but my thoughts are set. This will be my Bloodline.’
[Evolution Selected!]
[Proceeding with Bloodline Alteration…]
[Evolution will now Begin!]

Suddenly a deep urge to sleep took over the snake. It was forceful, all the snake had were a few seconds to sense if there were any enemies close to it before blacking out.

The snake...or rather the dragon cracked open his eyes and was flooded with messages. While reading them he shook off the last bits of sleepiness along with his left over skin. Shed on the floor was its old skin. It looked like a snake in the middle of trying to grow legs.
Feeling out its new body she was surprised. The new form seemed similar to the crocodile in a way but bigger. Her tail was longer and snout was not as flat. The legs were longer and gave more motion, Black claws grew from its fingers. It definitely does not remember seeing spikes along the crocodile's spine. On its head were small black horns that protruded forward, eyes the cold of gold glow with slit beastly pupils. The color of its scales were the same as when it was a snake, dark red the color of blood.
All in all the dragon was happy with its new form. The only drawback was the resemblance to crocodiles but that would soon be over when the dragon exterminated them all.
…
On the way back to the crocodile nest the dragon practiced its skills. Despite them not leveling some changes have appeared in the ones related to blood affinity. Blood manipulation can now cause some ranged damage by tossing a ball of condensed blood at the enemy. It's able to break rock so the force should be enough to shatter bone.
Blood Phantom changed to allow the clones to take on past forms the dragon had and the clone cap increases to two. This is good cause it means the bate tactic can still be used. It would have ended horribly to try and bait a creature with the form of a dragon. Lastly Blood Detection has gotten stronger, not in the sense of distance but it is more precise at long range. Now the dragon can make out the shapes the blood mana takes as it flows through a creature's body. Instead of blotchy shapes of blood mana the it can see the creatures outline and how it moves.

…
At the entrance to the nest the dragon summons a snake phantom and sends it to lure a hatchling it senses closest to the edge. Currently there are 4 weaker signals decently spread out from the larger monster that has the same power as the dragon. It should be able to bait all of the smaller ones out before challenging the bigger one.
As the first one to be caught approaches the dragon runs into a problem. It would usually lure its prey away and strike from behind while they were confused, but this time the dragon can't hide, its body takes up half the passage.
The hatchling arrives but it quickly ignores the prey it was chasing to stare at the dragon taking up the passage. The dragon swiftly launches two blood balls at the back legs of the croc, taking away its ability to run. It claps its two claws on either side of the croc's mouth keeping it shut, while the neck stretches as the dragon bites into the side of the beast.
The hatchling tries to struggle but the dragon has the same strength as it so it cannot get its mouth open. The dragon swallows the blood from the Hatchling and realises that the resistance it used to having moving the blood of living prey has decreased by half. Its many teeth have made multiple places it can pull blood from, but the holes from its long canines are the largest and most efficient place the blood flows out of. Quickly the hatchling has lost enough blood that it stops functioning.
The dragon does not finish the blood from the hatchling but instead uses the blood to make two blood balls and a new snake phantom to lure the next crock. If it takes too long to kill all the hatchlings they might gather together the missing ones.
The dragon is able to use this tactic to defeat all 4 Hatchling Crocodiles. It has still yet to finish the blood after killing them. The dragon uses the blood to make a blood phantom of its current form. This significantly lowers the mana used in the process since more than half would have been used to make the blood itself rather than animate the clone.
Sending the phantom out the dragon drinks the rest of the blood turning it into mana it can use. It controls the clone to act threateningly to the large crocodile, roaring at it and making a display of dominance before running off back to the dragon. As the clone and crocodile come out of the swamp the dragon can finally see its level.
[Mature Crocodile Lv 5]
The dragon sends the clone back to the crocodile. Naturally the crocodile responds by biting at the neck of the dragon clone. This collapses the clone but sends a significant amount of blood down its throat. The dragon bites at the crocodile's side while its vision is flooded by the collapsing blood clone. It's able to get two shallow bites in before the crocodile fights back and the dragon retreats.
Now at a safe distance the dragon starts to pull the blood out of the shallow wounds of the crocodile, bleeding it out faster. It also uses the blood the crocodile swallows to thrash against its insides. The crocodile is confused, feeling the pain but ignores that and it's bleeding side to charge at the dragon. The dragon throws blood balls at its legs and back while retreating from the crocodile.
The shameless display goes on for a while and soon the crocodile starts to weaken from the bloodloss. The dragon launches a large blood ball at the croc and is able to get in another shallow bite before retreating.
The crocodile, racked by pain and weakness, tries to return to its nest but it's so far away that it does not make it back before bleeding to death.
The dragon, happy to have eliminated its enemies, starts the long process of gathering up and consuming all the blood the crocodile has spilt on the floor during the battle.

I wrote this when I was 16/17 (which was many years ago now!) on a really old PC I called Phylis. I remember having to print it out on an old ribbon printer to submit it to publishers - this was back before esubs were the norm! It never got picked up and I ended up self publishing it. I hope you enjoy.
