《Dim(5,5,5)》Chapter Twelve - M.I.C.A.I.N

The learning link activated. I...merged. Thoughts, queries, impressions, some man's psyche, my psyche, our psyche. We thought together, about Becky Randal l, someone named Semperton, no, I knew Semperton, didn't we? Mike Davis...did. Beatings as a child, a girl, I was heartsick for...my mother... no, don't have a mother...where was the research? Where was the chip? Where...
Integration.
Ports opened. Light, sound. Data packets flowed by endlessly on the net, some addressed to me, billions of others not. Mechanical relays, this time under my control, activated. A Waldo interface--my Waldo. I opened the lens shields; eyelids. A bald pumpkin of a head stared down at me. A drooly big pink something slobbered over my receptors from under a fur-lined black olive.
Oh god, it was Blackie, and, "Wander! Where?"
"Easy tin-man."
I felt soiled, blurred. Started a rebuild from a back-up copy. I knew there would be some things changed in me I could never erase, but the bridge code, all that, I could purge. Being A.I, some of my makeup was code and memory, but some of it was neural pathways laid down gradually over a lifetime of experience; a quantum tracery that could be added to, but not easily reset.
On a more mundane level, getting my Waldo out of range of the dog seemed a good start. The rebuild was still in process, so I felt woozy. That was something new. Woozy. Good word. Bad feeling. Blackie whined. Wander just squatted, eyeing me. Worried? That was it, he looked...worried, and bloody. Blackie is huffing and snuffling, still whipping saliva over my face - well the waldo's face. Close enough.
I started to grab for Wander's shoulder, but stopped just in time, remembering the Waldo's weight. I began to struggle to my feet. Wander said something, but I wasn't all back in order yet. He alternately watched the door and urged me up, so I figured it was time to leave. Walking straight became less of a problem as I went along, and I was feeling back in action by the time we hit the street. Wander had words with the dog, who then took off.

Diaper boy must have been losing it, because he started talking to himself and pulling at his left ear. I went to work on my auditory rebuild, and by the time that was finished, a police car or two pulled into the shipping lot. There was a keystone cop bailout, and they herded on into the warehouse, save one angry-faced example that headed our way. Oh, I note, it was Richie's friend, that nice Frank guy, the police detective.

The Simulations
After ascending from his last life to become a Champion our hero has his memories locked. He is told that he must compete in competitive simulations against other Champions in order to earn enough to continue to simulate his consciousness. The competitive simulations have a variety of scenario genres, and may or may not have a game interface. The first competitive simulation our hero faces is from the Summoned Hero/Traveller to a New World genre, and is set as Fantasy Realistic - no game interface. He must ensure that the person he chose in the simulation's setup survives the end of the world in order to win. Author's note: I'm committing to one arc of four books. The arc has its own complete storyline. And each book has its own individual storyline as well. Each book also has 60 chapters, for a total commitment of 240 chapters. I'm aiming for a release schedule of a chapter every 23 hours.

A few years of peace, until the high king lost it. He was convinced that the mages would steal the crown and take over his world. Scared as he was, he decided to hunt down everyone with magical abilities. Elves retreated to the safety of their forests and mountains, forever remaining a mystery to the humans. Many non-magical humans agreed to this plan of their lord, for they were also afraid that the mages would take advantage of their weaknesses. The mages tried to survive. The archmage, who was the former counsellor of the last king and protector of the royal family, protested. He wanted to solve this problem through politics. But nothing helped, and the archmage fled. The king got two sons, one was born a mage, and the other human. The king despised his mage son and banished him. His younger brother became the heir of the throne. Anger grew in the mage prince. He thought war was the only solution to this problem. Consumed by the will to gain power, he searched for followers who would fight the humans in order to stop the hunt on mages. The archmage tried to stop this evil plan of the prince. But the mages split in two groups. The necromancers, followers of the evil prince, who studied the crafts of the dark magic to terrorise their enemies and gain back the throne. And the sorcerers, followers of the archmage, who tried to peacefully restore the trust between humans and mages. But nobody knew the danger that was gaining back his power in the underground world. The archmage disappeared and a darkness swept over the world. Human, elves, mages, every creature awaited in fear the day the darkness would take back his control. Faelwen, a young woman, was put in the middle of this chaos. Even though her only priority was to survive. Hunted down by humans and evil beasts, who can she trust? And what whispers from the dark will reveal the secrets from the archmage?
