—Únicamente falta un poco más— Contestó el viejo de forma pausada— Acércame a la barandilla que rodea el hexágono 0, niño.
Adam quería decir que a nadie se le permitía acercarse, pero había ya casi 40 personas mirándolos y nadie decía nada. Así que algo obligado por la vista de tanta gente, Adam ayudó al viejo acercarse a la barandilla del hexágono 0.
Esta era la primera vez que Adam pudo ver tan de cerca el gran esplendor del hexágono 0. El padre de Adam nunca le había permitido al niño acercarse a esta barandilla.

El hexágono 0 no era como cualquier otro hexágono, tal y como había dicho Adam estaba vacío: no había nada, no había estanterías, no había lámparas, pero más importante aún, no había paredes, no había techos y no había suelo. Por lo cual el hexágono 0 no estaba solo vacío, sino que también el hexágono 0 estaba hueco.
Desde la barandilla Adam podía observar el piso inferior y también el piso superior, si miraba para abajo podía ver a los otros bibliotecarios moverse como hormigas por el pasillo gigante previo al hexágono 0. Y si miraba para adelante, Adam podía observar a los bibliotecarios del otro lado, pero estaban muy lejos y únicamente se distinguía su contorno y movimiento.
Adam se acercó a la barandilla y se despidió del viejo:
—Llegamos, suerte.
—Espera, ayúdame a cruzar, yo estoy ciego, no puedo hacerlo sin ayuda— Dijo el viejo con voz monótona, algo molesta para Adam en estos momentos.
—Pero está prohibido…—Contestó Adam mirando a las casi 70 personas en los alrededores que lo miraban en silencio.
—Confía en mí, no te va a pasar nada por cruzarlo— Contestó el viejo.
Adam miró a sus alrededores, las miradas de las personas lo obligaban a ayudar al viejo, por lo que decidió cruzar la valla junto al viejo.
Tras cursar la valla, el niño y el viejo se adentraron en el anillo de madera que rodeaba al hexágono 0, todavía quedaba un largo camino para poder llegar al agujero del medio.
Adam notó que el viejo quería seguir caminando y lo acompañó. El anillo que rodeaba al hexágono 0 no era chico; fácilmente podría ser 1 km para llegar al agujero, por lo cual todavía quedaba una buena caminata por delante.
Todo el anillo estaba completamente vacío, por lo que no había nada y únicamente había un piso de madera que extendía hasta el agujero del medio. Pero al observar el piso con atención, Adam notó que había una línea amarilla pintada con pintura sobre el suelo formado un círculo amarillo por todo el anillo de madera del hexágono 0.
Adam cruzó la línea amarilla sin entender su motivo, pero al cruzarla, el niño se dio cuenta de por qué los antiguos bibliotecarios habían dibujado este círculo, dado que una cabeza de madera estaba comenzando a formarse en el suelo.
