Al salir de la clase, Adam miró con felicidad los pasillos de madera que conectaban las diferentes aulas. Los pasillos estaban iluminados por el mismo tipo de lámparas de aceite que el salón de clases.
Solo había puertas en uno de los costados de los pasillos, mientras que en el otro costado uno podía encontrar pinturas de diferentes personas; todas las personas estaban vestidas con túnicas negras y tenían manchas negras en la piel alrededor de los ojos, como si hubieran dormido mal de tanto leer. Estas personas eran ni más ni menos que los antiguos profesores de la escuela del piso medio 4 de 5, hexágono 8 de 18 o también conocida como: la escuela de los pisos medios.
Con una felicidad pocas veces vista, Adam fue caminando por los pasillos de madera. Los mismos no eran muy altos y tenían una altura un poco superior a la de una persona, ni tampoco eran muy anchos: a lo mucho podría pasar 4 personas pegadas hombro a hombro, pero los pasillos sí eran bastantes largos. No obstante, el ambiente claustrofóbico no parecía importarle al joven alegre que caminaba por los pasillos tratando de cubrir sus zapatos sucios.
Por desgracia para Adam su aula quedaba en unos de los extremos más alejados del hexágono, por lo que el joven tuvo una larga caminata hasta llegar a la puerta de la escuela. Girando por las tres esquinas del hexágono, Adam finalmente pudo encontrar el pasillo que conducía a la puerta de salida.
La puerta de salida de la escuela era 3 veces más grande que las puertas de las clases y estaba colocada en el lado de la pared donde se colocaban los cuadros, por lo que era muy fácilmente reconocible. Pero más que una puerta habría que aclarar que era un marco vacío que conectaba el hexágono 8 con el 4.

Adam pasó por el marco gigante y continuó su marcha; sin embargo, esta vez no lo recibieron pasillos llenos de puertas y pinturas como en la escuela. El hexágono 4 era uno de los 6 hexágonos principales, por lo que las paredes del hexágono 4 estaban rodeadas de estanterías llenas de libros, salvo por los marcos de abertura que funcionaban como puertas entre los hexágonos.
En el medio del hexágono 4 había más estanterías formando otro hexágono más chico con solo dos marcos en cada lado funcionando como puertas, dicho hexágono era conocido como un hexágono interior.
Dentro de ese hexágono interior, cuyas paredes se componían de estanterías, había otro hexágono interior aún más chico: cuyas paredes también se componían de estanterías y de dos puertas alineadas con la anterior, formando un pasillo de marcos.
En total, cada hexágono principal contenía 18 hexágonos interiores repletos de estanterías donde uno podía encontrar libros, por lo que si no fuera porque todos los marcos gigantes estaban alineados, uno podría encontrarse con un hermoso laberinto lleno de estanterías con libros coloridos.
Adam parecía no querer llamar la atención de las personas que se hallaban ojeando o leyendo libros en el interior del hexágono 4; por lo cual el niño decidió avanzar hacia su objetivo por el anillo externo de estanterías.
El objetivo de Adam era llegar al hexágono 3 de 18. El hexágono 3 no solo era uno de los principales, sino que también contaba con dos escaleras que servían para subir y bajar pisos.
Adam caminó torpemente, tratando de esconder sus zapatos con polvo del resto de personas con túnicas negras. Tras caminar un buen rato, el niño pudo ver dos marcos de mármol y que detrás de los marcos se localizaban unas escaleras de caracol.
Las escaleras de caracol estaban hechas de mármol y estaban decoradas de forma exquisita, por lo que si uno las mirara con cuidado lograría apreciar que había símbolos raros grabados en cada uno de los escaños de las escaleras.

Una de las escaleras se dirigía a los pisos inferiores del nivel medio y la otra ascendía hasta los pisos superiores del nivel medio.
Adam se dirigía a los pisos inferiores donde vivía su padre. Pero el chico no avanzaba; sino que sé quedó esperando en la puerta de las escaleras.
Las escaleras no eran muy ancha y solo podían pasar 4 personas de hombro a hombro. Por lo cual los antiguos bibliotecarios habían diseñado un sistema para evitar atascos y accidentes en su interior.
Arriba de cada marco que conducía a una escalera había dos piedras: una verde y otra roja. Si la piedra roja parpadeaba no se podía entrar y era mejor no hacerlo. Por lo cual, Adam tenía que quedarse esperando en la puerta; sin embargo, todas las escaleras tenían 100 escalones entre piso y piso, por lo que la espera no debería ser demasiado larga.
