《Saer Servitude》Chapter 37

A guard ran inside the room few seconds later.
He was gasping, "Something just landed infront of the gate."
"What can it be?" Counselor Padraig narrowed his eyes.
"It was a raven of fire. The raven held something like a scroll in its claws. Raven dropped it outside the gate and disappeared." Guard answered him.
"A fire raven?" Ser Angus raised his voice, "Someone close to Lord Wernh'An must have sent the fire raven."
"Or it is a message from our lord himself?" Padraig added.
"Tell the guards to pick it up." Ser Angus looked at the sorcerers present in the room, "Go there and check if it is safe or not."
The sorcerers bowed to his command and followed the guard.
"I should have gone with Lord Wernh'An." Ser Angus cursed himself.
"He wanted you to look after this place, you forgot, knight?" Godfreed reminded him.
"This place will be worthless if Lord Wernh'An doesn’t come here again."
"Speak no ill of our Lord, knight." Padraig interrupted him, "Great Invasion will remember each and every word we speak in this palace."
"Then Great Invasion will also remember the ill advice you gave to Lord Wernh'An."
"I didn’t get to counsel him a lot, knight. Lord was deciding where I use my tongue."
The sorcerers returned with a scroll.
"Anything in it?" asked Ser Angus.
"The fire raven was from Winstrova."
"Why would someone from far south want to speak with Lord Wernh'An."
"It is from a Lord in Winstrova. We are not allowed to open any scroll sent to Lord Wernh'An."
"Fools from the south. It must be one of those tricks where they pretend be allies with us." Counselor Padraig scoffed, "Everyone seems to be following traditions of Pryeg. Little do they know, such acts will not help them when Wutke gets stronger than ever."

"Begin the search in entire Oskerus." Ser Angus announced, "Next time we come here will be with Lord Werhnh'An."
"I would not take such an immediate decision if I were a knight from Fault of somewhere."
Ser Angus squinted at him.
"I mean no bitterness towards your intent. But the method seems rushed for sure." Counselor Padraig spoke.
"So what should I have done if I were a Counselor from shit-pile?"
"You would be waiting for our Lord's army to return. If they return empty handed or not return for a week then it would be wise to begin expedition."
Ser Angus couldn’t take the idea in a light way. At least he could not dismiss it infront of so many people who already looked convinced enough from Padraig’s idea. Hopeful heads turned at his direction so Ser Angus had no other way than accepting the counselor’s idea.
He nodded to make accepted. And nod several times to make it awkward. Roaring wind was audible even in the hall so it was clear the weather was not in their side.
Smirk spread over Padraig’s face. He ended the discussion with a bow, turned towards the door and left the room alone.

Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.
