《Magnum Opus》5.9

As the pillar of violet mana winked out of existence, after depleting its source of mana. The rest of the faraday cage fell in on itself, disappearing. The south crux was left ruined by the blast; nothing but a giant hole, surrounded by melting stone, releasing a vaporous smoke as it cooled.
Landing by the lip of the giant crater, almost sounding like he was talking to himself, the proctor said, “This was a complete disaster, I'm going to have to get ahold of the headmaster immediately.”
In the background as the proctor talked to himself, a staticky-nasally voice said, “What was that Sir are you still there?”
Breaking away from whatever he was thinking about. Turning, walking towards Mential, and Yerian. Pulling out two small porcelain bottles, sticking his arms out towards his Assistants.
The proctor said, “Take these, there higher end mana potions. They should get you both up, and running, so you can start cleaning this mess up. Mantial hand me the orb, please.”
Palms sweating from stress, handing the viewing orb to the proctor. Mantial said, “Here you go, sir.”
Looking at Mantial, obviously shaking from nerves. Releasing a sigh, the proctor said, “Mantial, don't forget the potion. After you've finished it, go take care of the miasma.”
As the proctor conversed with Mantial, one could still hear a nasty voice in the background, “Hello is anyone there? Hello!”
Handing the other potion to Yerian the proctor said, “Take this then go help the trial participants. If they're okay go help Mantial clean up the miasma.”
Slightly bowing, his dusty robes sweeping across the ground. Yerian said, “Of course proctor, I’ll get right on it.”
As Mantial and Yerian opened the potion bottles, the heady smell of highly purified herbs wafted through the air. Tipping the bottles back, almost simultaneously, enjoying the cool, and refreshing feeling as the potion refilled their mana reserves.

After just a few minutes the duo was brimming with mana, looking steadier on their feet. Bowing towards the proctor; turning, and flying off in separate directions, following the orders of the proctor.
After watching his Assistants take to their tasks. Looking at the viewing orb in his hand, with a frown the proctor said, “Silence, My name is Allen Wheelrite, captain of the grey hand. You will tell me your name, and then you will connect me to the Headmaster! Do you understand?”
A squeak came from the other side of the viewing orb, coughing the voice said, “Ah yes, yes, my name is Humphry Dullard, a first-tier Magus. Sir, Captain of the grey hand, I’m sorry for not getting your connection through earlier. Please don’t, never mind I’ll send you through now.”
Smirking, Allen said, “Good, see that you do.”
As those in the group of trial taker that weren’t burned. Went about healing those that got burned by the exploding scrapers. A light flickered in the distance, right before a robed figure came into view. A few of the trial participants, that were tasked with watching the group's surroundings for danger, noticing the figure right away.
Turning to the rest of the group Shouting they said, “We have a practitioner, their coming in fast!”
Several of the group members that were applying healing potions, paused in their work. Looking up inspecting the incoming practitioner. As the figure descended on the group; pulling back his hood showing a fair face, with blonde shoulder-length hair shifting in the wind. Smiling Yerian said, “Hello trial participants, I am Yerian assistant to the proctor of Edens trial. I can see some of you are suffering from burns. Someone give me an overview of what you all have been through. while I see to those that are injured if there is anyone else that needs help feel free to point them out.”

One of the trial participants following behind Yerian, as he went from one injured person to another. Healing each as he went; waves of mana flowing over the victims. Causing their burns to heal at a rate visible to the naked eye.
The short trial taker With a mousy nose, big eyes semi-hidden by dusty brown hair. Stuttering he said, “Umm… Sir, my name is Henry Gregson. I don’t know exactly what you want to know, but well.. at least my group were fighting scrapers. When a bigger wave of them overwhelmed us, falling back trying to get space. We ran into most of the other groups here, who were also fighting a large swarm of scrapers. I don’t know how long it took us to clear them out, but we finally managed it with a lot of work.”
After healing another person, Yerian said, “Hmm interesting, how did they get these burns than?”
Still looking nervous Henry said, “Well.. after the major quakes started, another group of trial takers showed up. Shortly after that, an even bigger swarm of scrapers came.”
Interrupting Henry, Yerian said, “I don’t need every detail, just an overview, I'm sure others will want to question you all, once we get this mess sorted.”
Shocked stuttering Henry said, “Oh, umm... Ok, then a horrible poisonous fog swept through. The Nein saved us from that, by purifying the air. When something caused all the scrapers to explode, spewing a fiery mucus.”

Having others make choices forces me to be creative and I think that's when I'm at my best. Keep an eye out for polls in post chapter notes, they usually last 2 days. As always, love each other, and know I am grateful for every single person who reads my works.

Long Shadow
No destiny, no choice, no hope. Our protagonist, a coward summoned to a world meant for heroes; a new world with new rules and old cruelties. Join him on his adventures as he must deal with menus, monsters, and mysteries in this litrpg fantasy. Thomas Goodwill was an average boy with an average life, all that changed when he woke up in a new reality. Now, out of his depth, damn near out of his mind, he must learn to survive in a game-like reality with no reloads, checkpoints, or save scumming. He does, however, have a drunk snake. Thank you for reading my first story, hopefully, the first of many to come. This will be my main story and is meant to help me practice and hone my skills as I slowly produce more complex ideas. It's a litrpg in which I want to only lightly focus on the mechanics as I don’t want to pad out the word count with math and number tables and while I want to add a few of my own twists here and there, overall I’m going to keep this story close to generic as possible so that I don't let my inexperience lead me into a corner. Thanks again to all willing to leave a review or some constructive criticism, without you I'd never improve. Unfortunately, Cover art is by me.
