What?! How could I miss something that important? Taking a quick second, I tapped into my mind palace. I searched through the whole thing, and there was plenty of information about form. A few tidbits about position but not one mention of resonance. I felt my stomach sink, as I realized how bad the memory loss really was. I just thought since the pyramid with my soulution was completely intact that I didn't lose anything super important. Dropping my head into my hands to hide how shocked I was.
Looking up, as I felt a hand touch my shoulder. Wearing a look of sympathy. Mancin said, "Kyle, as I said before, it's a little too early for you to be trying to form spell matrixes. It's nothing to get worked up about. Sure, it would look good to have a few spell matrixes for Edens admissions test. But it's not the end of the world if you don't have them. You still have your talent, that definitely puts you ahead of most of the applicants. But I guess..”
Pausing, Letting out a sigh. He said, “It wouldn't hurt if I went over the basics with you. To see if that helps you form a proper spell matrix. From what you told me previously, you seem to have a pretty good grasp of form. But your grasp of position is sloppy at best, and it sounds like your knowledge of resonance is disastrous.”
These misunderstandings keep happening at the worst times. I can't even explain my reaction. Without either exposing my biggest secret or maybe losing my best chance to get a better handle on spell matrixes. Before taking Edens admissions tests. With my head hanging low. I said, "That's pretty accurate of my situation. If there's anything you can do or advice you could give. Anything at this point would be an improvement, and I'd be very thankful.”

Sitting across from me, Mancin's jolly and gruff demeanor vanished. In its place was the air of a scholar, a seeker of knowledge. Sternly, he said, "Before we start, I just want you to know. At any point, if you don't understand something or have a question. Stop me even if I'm in the middle of explaining something and I will go over it again. I'm not teaching, for the sake of teaching but teaching so you learn. Do you understand?”
I could tell, he took teaching very seriously. Shaking my head in agreement, I said: "Yes, I completely understand.” As his glowing right hand, swept towards a bookcase on the far right of the room. Causing a large book that sat on one of its packed shelves. To fly towards us, as it landed on the coffee table between us. The first thing I noticed was its cover. Made of rich grey leather, that had shimmering specks of silver running through it.
Turning the book towards me. He said, "Good, this tome is one of my favorites, that covers the fundamentals of spellcraft.” Flipping through the tome, stopping as he reached a complex diagram. Of a spell matrix, that covered two pages. He said, "Looking at this diagram, you would think spell matrixes are complicated. While I'll admit, there are a lot of complex aspects of spellcraft. Spell matrixes, themselves are not all that complex. They can be broken up into three base aspects, called the glyph triad. Which are form, position, and resonance.”
Looking pensive, He said, "Even though you seem to have a good grasp of form. I'll go over it just to make sure you're not missing something. The best way I can put it is form is not only the shape of individual runes. But also the way you connect runes together to make the shape of the spell matrix. It's both the easiest of the triad to learn as well as the trickiest. Because the effects of form on a spell matrix are a lot of small changes. As long as you aren't too far off from what the shape of the runic images should be. Overall it only affects the final outcome of a spell matrix.”

Pointing at the center of the diagram, Mancin said “This rune here, is called the core rune. It represents the position of the spell matrix as a whole. Position affects how stable the matrix is.” Sliding his finger in a circle around the whole diagram, he said, "This is also the position of the spell matrix. If you move the core rune towards the left, just an inch will impact your spell matrix. In some way, depending on what spell matrix you're trying to form. It could just cause your spell matrix to collapse. Or if it doesn't collapse it could weaken the effect you get when you activate it. The variety of problems a misplaced core rune could cause is staggering.
Turning to the next page, that showed another diagram. That looked a lot like the first one. Pointing to six runes that looked identical. He said, "These runes are called secondary runes. Their only purpose is to help balance the resonance, of a spell matrix. Now resonance is probably the hardest part of the triad to grasp. Because of its more ephemeral nature. You can't see it like the other parts of the triad, it can only be felt. Resonance is not only the vibrational frequency a rune emits. But also the frequency of a spell matrix as a whole. If even one rune is not synchronized correctly. You won't be able to form a spell matrix at all.”

Small Pond
In a world without systems, levels, or any standard power levels, Faust is a naturally skeptical person who always asks questions first and accepts after he gets confirmation. A lot of it. With some information unknown to the reader, represented as [?], Faust is left to discover who kidnapped him, where he is, if magic exists, and what to do while the reader silently observes him. And as for the YOU dear reader, I'll need your help choosing some things... Small Pond isn't meant to be a high-paced action light novel, but instead, there's a greater focus on world and character building in order to create a greater narrative. Expect the unexpected in this story ;) The release schedule will be paused, for now, I'm going to try and spend some time rethinking the intro and work on school.
