《Magnum Opus》1.4

"I'm sure things seem confusing and hard to handle after all your life has been completely upended. But I'm sure everything will settle down, and it won't be so bad and if you need anything, pull one of the petals." Daphnia said as she swung her glowing hand. Towards the small desk in the corner, a little flower appeared.
I know she said I should become a Magus, and my past self stated I should go down that path too. But being a Witch sounded and looked like a good choice also. I mean being able to heal people is cool, and summoning plants is awesome. I wonder what other things witches can do.
Looking at Daphnia and Mancin getting a little emotional. I said, "I know we don't know each other very well, but I just wanted to say thank you. You guys took care of me while I was unconscious, and you've both made me feel welcome here."
Daphnia swooped down, giving me a motherly hug. She said, "Oh sweetling it's not a problem, your so young and to be going through all of this by yourself, it hurts my heart. I know I don't know the details of your life before you came here, or what accident you were in that caused your o.m.s. But what kind of guardian sends their wounded charge, through a teleportation array, alone to a foreign place."
"Daphnia, my dearest, you can't judge a person based on unfounded speculation, and you said you don't know what happened. I think it's wise not to make assumptions, don't you? That being said, Kyle, I've been Merchant even longer than I've been a Magus. I'm great at reading people, and I can tell, you lad have a good heart." Mancin said he gave me a warm smile as he gently placed his hand on Daphnia's shoulder.

Letting out a sigh Daphnia stood, fixing her ruffled robes. She said, "Your right, I don't know the details, but I still don't agree with it. But that's neither here nor there, Kyle I want you to know as long as you're here in Free city, you can count on us for aid.
Smiling at her. I said, "Thanks, Daphnia, I do have a question. I'm sure I haven't seen all the magical things you're capable of. But seeing as you can heal people and summon plants which I find amazing. I was wondering if I could become a Witch too?"
Seeing the expressions on their faces, I had a horrible feeling. That my dreams of being a walking forest, are about to be crushed. It's okay though, and it's not like I don't have other options.
Taking a quick look at Mancin, as a slight frown appeared on her face. Daphnia said, "I'm flattered that you were, inspired by me. but.. well... I'm just going to say it; I don't think you should go down the path of a Witch. First and foremost, Witches don't store mana internally; they use their familiars to hold it for them. So becoming a Witch wouldn't help with your, heightened mana sensitivity. Secondly, the path of the Witch is usually started at birth. You would be put at a great disadvantage."
Looking down, trying my best to smile. I said, "It's okay, I guess, it's just my luck. I wouldn't be able to become a Witch, but I still become a Magus."
Letting out a sigh, Mancin said, "With my beautiful and talented wife as a role model. I can understand why you would want to become a Witch and not an old boring Magus like me."
Shooting her husband a look Daphnia said, "Don't listen to that blockhead, he might not seem very interesting, but I promise you he is definitely a talented Magus. Honestly speaking going down the Magus path, is really your only option to lead a successful life with anything to do with mana. Not that success is what's important, but I figured you should know the truth now rather than get your hopes up later."

Lifting my head, I said, "Your right, Daphnia, I want to be able to do magic, and if I'm going to do anything. I mise well be good at it, if that means being a Magus it's not the end of the world.
Looking at me with smiles on their face almost in unison, they said, "That's the spirit."
I feel like my past self somehow planned this, I mean what are the chances that the only way I can overcome his level is by being a Magus. But I'm not going to mope around feeling sorry for myself, that's for sure.

NEWDIE STEADSLAW Part I
NEWDIE STEADSLAW is a randomized array of Chekhov's red herrings, non sequitors ex machina, run-on sentences, and em dashes—so many em dashes. It's like if the Bible and Shakespeare had a baby that they surrendered to foster care, then it got adopted by Alice in Wonderland and Dr. Seuss—the books, not the people—and then the baby fell down the stairs. In this metaphor, the stairs wrote the story. Part I is the tale of the adventures of Traycup and Roby as they try to hold down a job inside the hollow Earth—a place made possible thanks to the secret science of embargoed relativity—and they get distracted by dancing foxes, a giant's record collection, and something with a train, I think. It's a work of fiction—although to call it work seems insulting to, y'know, actual work—but the fiction label is apt, so, y'know, that's a win. Half the words are made up, and the other half are embarrassed to be seen with them. Part I is complete.

8 189Earth Ravaged: The Alliance Chronicles Book 1
Originally published on Amazon in 2013, now published here as a serial for the free enjoyment of all. Book 3 to come later this year. This one could also stand a complete re-write with the knowledge and skill I've developed in the interim, and I may do so once I have pushed out chapters for the third book in the series. In the not too distant future, a group of seven people will set out on a mission of exploration to a nearby star system. Their destination is the Tau Ceti system, one of ten planned destinations as part of a new privately-funded space programme, involving many countries across the Earth. However, old problems still exist, and while they make their successful launch, they have no idea what begins to take place at home, what they will face on their journey, and who decides to pay Earth a visit while they are gone.

No, this tale revolves around a certain girl who had something special. Something so extrodinary that gave her the opportunity to change her answer to that question.
