《Magnum Opus》Prologue

If you hear this message, it means you made it out alive most likely by the grace of my master and that the incantations I laid on you have worked. There is no reason to fear Kyle because I am you, just a different older version.
Let me explain how we got here. I spent so many years my sole aim to reach the pinnacle of magic. Day in day out, studying, gathering the resources necessary to hone my craft.
But several months ago, my core matrix started to warn me of danger, Courtesy of my jade eye soulution skill sight beyond sight, which gave me the benefits of a type of clairvoyance. You don't get to the level of a Great Mage if you don't have keen instincts.
The minute I got my first warning, I stopped preparing to ascend to a High Mage and put all my focus on figuring out what I was being warned about.
In the following days I scryed prying into every nook and cranny of the future I could see. It came as a great shock to me that my fellow disciple had plotted my downfall, not only that. But that he had succeeded, once I caught a glimpse of what had been well hidden from me. The whole plot rolled out before my eyes, how I had been lied to and used to weaken my master's position on the council of the orthodoxy. The scheme started with My brother disciple had my masters notice of assignment forged to investigate Dusk valley and black magic.
I spent five years researching Warlocks and the intricacies of their black magic; How they use a potion called dusky hemlock to transform their bodies subtly. So they can feed off negative emotions, which they use to pollute the mana in their core matrix to turn it into negative energy to power their spells.

How warlocks use their soulution dark heart's skill, miasma clout To corrupt the ambient mana of Dusk valley, Significantly weakening anything reliant on mana. The corrosive effects of miasma get stronger the deeper you go into Dusk valley, Making it an almost impenetrable stronghold against non-warlocks.
Until I found out a shocking secret, on the cusp of birth of the orthodoxy, it was not seven guilds that came together to form the orthodox council and to create the first version of the accords. But eight the guild was called Midnight Haze, the fact that most of their members were not magi but warlocks.
The seven other guilds led by the Rising Sun demanded an explanation for their betrayal. Preparing to strike they were caught off guard, by the power coming from the guild leader Amond Velte. He and his warlocks disappeared in a wave of negative energy.
Later, when the seven guilds raided the Midnight hazes guild house, they found evidence. That Amond Velte had secretly been studying the dark heart soulution not just him but all of Midnight haze had been studying, learning and changing it for their use for many years. Amond was the first successful by-product of that research the first Dark Magus. Instead of using a potion to transform their bodies, they focused on using runes to copy its effects and the abilities of warlocks, while keeping their ability to use pure mana.
After finding out the truth of Midnight hazes treacherous actions, the orthodoxy finalized their internal agreements. They Whipped all traces of Midnight haze from history, hiding their embarrassment. Ultimately putting the matter behind them. Letting pride cloud their judgment they never wondered where the Dark magus Amond took his guild or why they never appeared again. This was my downfall, researching black magic without the council's approval and find out about the secret shame of the orthodoxy.

There is so much I want to say even if it's only to myself, but they should be here soon. I'll leave you with a quick summary of the major incantations I've laid on you.
While there are only two major incarnations, there are several minor and even more lesser ones. The first major incantation is voidial treetus. It's what I consider my personal masterpiece. It controls and houses all the other incarnations while simultaneously hiding them from prying eyes. The second major incantation is, reincarnation gambit; it's usually, only used by magi close to death. To use it, one must sacrifice all their mana and core matrix to the incantation, while sealing their memories until they form their core matrix. In return, one's body is brought back to its peak form, another chance at life. But not many use it do to its steep price.
I hope the plans I've set up for you to help you reach higher than I did and farewell.

A (Not So) Simple Fetch Quest
Oh great hero! The evil Demon Lord has once again arisen to terrorise our lands, and we have summoned you to save our people! No, we don't want you to fight the demon lord! Of course not; we're the good guys! What sort of good guys kidnap people from other worlds and force them to take part in wars that have nothing to do with them? That would just be plain evil! We'd be no better than the demons! Katie, after her summoning by an excessively loud mage suddenly takes an unexpected twist, is sent off on a simple fetch quest, with a promise that she'll be back home in five minutes at most. She doesn't even need to leave the building. Alas, when a goddess' blessing causes her wish for an actual adventure to be taken rather more literally than she expected, she finds herself lost in a dark cave, far away from the sword she was supposed to acquire and far too close to a population of giant bugs. Still, at least she wished her life wasn't in any danger. Among other things. Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it. This is a dark litRPG adventure, both in terms of Katie accidentally wishing all the lights out, and also in that she loses as often as she wins, often with horrific and disturbing consequences. Luckily, Katie isn’t the sort of person to let a mere grizzly death or two get her down, and is prepared to try, try and try again to get her hands on the holy sword and finally complete her ‘simple’ fetch quest. Or perhaps—with a few resistance skills under her nightie—she might even come to enjoy losing. Not that she’d ever consider forgoing revenge, even if she did. I’ve ticked all the content warning checkboxes for this one. There’s no explicit sexual content, but there are enough references to justify the warning. Profanity happens rarely, but Katie isn’t averse to swearing when she gets particularly angry. As for gore/trauma, it doesn’t get much worse than the first few chapters, but there will be occasional chapters that have extra content warnings.
