In a small room on the second floor of an inn was Emile lying on a bed.
After a long trek that lasted for 2 days, he made it to Scarlet City.
Emile was using his coins to sleep a night at the inn. Emile was running out of coins. His bag didn't have many coins when he started out in the world. The world blocked Emile's inventory so he could not use his game coins.
He would head to the market on the next day to earn coins.
Emile had to sleep in an inn because he couldn't log out. If he wanted to, he could log out anytime but that would mean a mission failure.
When he tried to log out, he got a system announcement.
[If you log out, you will fail the mission]
[Would you like to log out?]
Emile blew out a warm breath and said, "no."
He wouldn't log out until the mission was completed or until he failed.
He fell asleep on his bed.
__________
The Next Morning
He woke up early. Emile didn't know what time he woke up since alarm clocks didn't exist. He looked outside and guessed a time.
'Probably 8 a.m.'
He tidied his clothes and walked out of the inn to the market. His goal for this day was to earn coins.
He was going to the market and see if there were any opportunities to exploit.
Emile walked around and heard pitchers yelling out prices.
"Sword made of Mythril here! Buy for 10 gold coins!"
"Leather Armor for 100 copper coins! It can protect you from arrows and other projectiles!"
Cultivators crowded the marketplace.
Peak Muscle Refining was the average stage of the Cultivators in this marketplace. They could consider Emile as an expert. He knew he was stronger than most people here.
'I could be a bodyguard for someone,' Emile thought as he looked around. He could get a decent amount of coins by guarding people.

At this moment a chariot drove towards Emile.
'Is he not going to stop,' Emile thought and watched the Chariot run into him.
Emile had a gut feeling that the chariot couldn't injure him. He was right as the chariot stopped. He felt nothing.
"What the hell, stop standing in the way, move," A chubby man with gold adorned clothes on said arrogantly.
"Move around me," Emile said like a civil person. Emile didn't want to create any conflicts, so he asked him nicely.
"You're telling ME to move around you, a peasant, think of your status before talking to me, now move," The man said with even more arrogance.
'This is a good way to earn some money,' Emile thought about his circumstances.
"Pay me 3 gold coins," Emile asked for a toll fee.
"I'll ignore what you just said... If you don't move, I will kill you," The man said while clenching his fists.
"The toll fee is now 5 gold coins," Emile was stubborn in his offer.
"I understand, bodyguards cut him into pieces." The man said with an angry tone.
Five bodyguards appeared out of nowhere and attacked Emile. Emile didn't have a sword on him which would weaken his strikes.
The bodyguards were all at the peak level of Skeletal Refining Stage. Emile wouldn't risk his life for no reason.
He believed in his Void-Steps.
Even though the bodyguards were faster than him he could use his skills to dodge their blows and land attacks on them.
The bodyguards never landed a single hit on them and Emile kept attacking them. After five minutes of fighting the bodyguards were all lying on the floor unconscious.
He defeated them easily.
"Do you know what movement skill he's using." One bystander whispered to another.
"I've never seen it before," they replied to the comment.

They had never seen the movement skill before which lead to the whispering.
Cultivators who were at the Skeletal Refining could see that the cultivation of the bodyguards was at the peak of the Skeletal Refining stage.
They also noticed Emile who was in the 5th stage of skeletal refining which shocked them. Someone at lower tier could defeat five people at a higher stage.
"The toll fee is now 10 gold coins," Emile said as he brushed off the dust from his clothes.
'I'll call the guards," The chubby man used his last threat.
"Let me beat you up first, then you can go call the guards," Emile said with a sadistic smile on his face.
The chubby man felt terrified after seeing Emile's expression.
"I'll pay 10 g-gold coins now, p-please don't h-hurt me," He said with a shaky voice. He started to take out his purse.
"No, the toll fee is now 100 gold coins," Emile said as his smile grew wider.
"This is daylight robbery," The chubby man yelled out.
"Yeah, it is," Emile replied.
"Should I make the price higher," Emile said out loud.
"No, don't I'll pay 100 gold coins," the man fumbled for his purse. He took out 85 gold coins from his purse.
"I-I don't have e-enough," The chubby man said with terror in his voice.
"What can you exchange for 15 gold coins," Emile asked.
"Hey guys could you give me 15 gold coins," The man asked the bystanders.
The bystanders looked around and no one stepped forward to pay 15 gold coins.
"Look's like you are not a very good person," Emile said.
"P-Please spare me some money," The chubby man started to beg.
"I'll do the world a good thing," Emile said as he walked towards the chubby man.
Emile started to beat the chubby man up. After a series of whining and wailing the man stopped.
He fell unconscious. Emile picked up the 85 gold coins and walked away.
"Should we report-"
The person was cut off before he could say anything. Another person held his mouth with his arm.
"Are you stupid, did he seem to care about the guards, no right, he'll beat you up if he heard that," someone else said hoping for Emile to not have heard his words. Most of the pedestrians became scared of Emile since he had a higher cultivation than them.
He was also a genius since he could fight people stronger than him.
Emile walked away as fast as he could. He couldn't keep up the act anymore. He felt terrified of the guards since they all were in the Nerve Refining Stage.
"I need to buy a mask," Emile thought in his mind.
Emile walked into a store selling masks. Luckily the person didn't know who Emile was. Pictures of him haven't beeen passed out yet.
Emile quickly bought a fox mask which cost him 2 silver. He gave one of his gold coins. The shop owner felt shocked by the value.
The shopkeeper gave him 98 silver coins. The shop had to scrounge around looking for silver coins.
Emile gave thanks and walked out of the store while wearing the mask he bought.
Emile wanted to buy equipment so he asked around for places that sold equipment.
There was the weapon dealer who had the highest quality swords. Emile went there first to get himself a good sword.
He would head to the armor dealer afterward to get high-quality pieces of armor.

As he fights however, he is forced to face not just the evil that lurks in the shadows: but the indifference that lurks in people’s hearts. The world is playing a waiting game with human lives, and Oscar is caught right in the middle of it. Note: This is a dark LitRPG story, with dungeons, levelling, and quests in a contemporary setting. Permanight is currently on hiatus while I prepare a rewrite based on the current feedback I've recieved. I'm sorry for the bad news, but I want to bring the world to life in a way that feels real, and at the moment - I'm not entirely convinced that I'm doing that.
