《The Final Quest》chapter Interlude: control room 1

“Sir, the subject is at rest. Would this be an appropriate time to warp her in?” A woman in a white jumpsuit said, looking away from her monitor towards the man in a black business suit.
“No, Her companions will soon return, that and the test body isn’t 100% stable yet. Continue monitoring” The man said, folding his fingers together in front of his face.
“Yes, sir.”
The man slowly sighed softly. It had been over ten years since the project had started. There were many times where he had feared that it would fail and the world would fall into disorder once again. Before the VR technology was developed into full immersion, the world order was slowly turning back to what it used to be. The Strong eating the weak, the weak and helpless suffering for no reason. The project was, is the final stand against global anarchy.
With people strong enough to obliterate the planet, it was a breath of relief when it was agreed among the higher powered individuals that world ending plots and attacks are strictly forbidden.
The man looked at the several monitors surrounding the room. Roughly 30% of the screens showed the Invader who named herself “Emerald”. The rest either showed a newschannel or players of interest.
Although he had asked Emerald to be the true final boss to the game, the dragon stunt she pulled was something that shocked him deeply. The ability to summon a dragon is rare by itself, but the ability to create a dragon...unthinkable. There are skeleton dragons, but they don’t really count.
The man knew that the Invader wasn’t a code, but a person, a lost soul stuck in the game, though he had a feeling that she could break out of the game whenever she wanted, she needed a physical body, and something else…

“Sir, your 9 o’clock is waiting, also the test body will be stable in approximately two hours.” Another woman in a white jumpsuit walked through the door placed directly behind the man’s chair.
“Well, I guess I should go entertain the guest while the final preparations are being made,” The man stood up from his chair. “Warp the subject in after she reaches the city and finds a place. Make sure it’s when she is resting, and when no one else is round.”
“YES SIR.” The room was filled with the militaristic voices, hundreds of voices at once. Men and women in white jumpsuits were looking at lines and lines of code on each of their screens, there were ten levels in the room, at the top was the Director's chair, the bottom had the patcher, patching out bugs in the system.
The man walked out, grabbing the note screen from the assistant who walked in. “follow.” he said curtly, the woman briskly walked to his side, just slightly behind him
“Sir, the meeting is in your office.” she said as she walked in slightly quicker steps to keep up with the giant of a man simply known as The Director.
The Director had a clean, close beard, a tall frame that was well muscled, and a height that towered over the other workers in the corporation. There were many rumors about him in all levels of the office and internet.
Some said that he was a hidden expert, others said he is the rich heir to an influential family. Only a couple things were completely certain about the Director, he crushed competition, and kept his secrets well guarded.
“I’ll take brunch after this meeting.” The Director said while walking into the elevator, still looking at the note screen.

“Of course sir, will it be the usual?” the secretary asked as she pressed the desired floor.
“Janet, you know what I want.” The Director stated, not looking away from the note screen
“Just making sure sir.”
“How is the situation on the outside?”
“While tensions were rising, it seems to have temporarily decreased. Also, sales have been up ever since the “dragon event.” it seems your newest “friend” has caught the attention of some experts.” Janet said while pushing up her glasses. “Of course not that they can have a real impact on the causal server. Which brings up the question, why haven’t you brought her over to the +500 lvl server?”
“Janet, do you know of the fish in the pond analogy?” The Director asked, glancing over towards her.
“Sir, if i hadn’t I should just retire.”
“What would you think would happen if you put a battle hardened sea monster in the midst of hungry nieve piranhas? I’ll give you a hint, Dead fish”
The Elevator doors opened with a ding.
“So the players are the fish in the pond?”
“Think of it this way, I have created a pond, the game, and allow certain ‘fish’ in the pond. Now let's stick with the sea monster, comes into the pond unknowingly. The pond itself cannot sustain the creature. Luckily it went into the ‘shallows’ where the lower class plays.”
“What would’ve happened if the creature went into the ‘deep end’?”
The director put his free hand on his office door, and looked back at Janet “We would have been shut down.”
And with that the Director opened his door, closing it before Janet could walk in.

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes

A Titan's Crusade
Erik Thayne spent most of his life being brutally ridiculed and tormented for his weight and physical appearance, among other things. A social pariah and diagnosed with an eating disorder no one has an explanation or treatment for, Erik spent years trying to overcome his issues with his personal image and escape the ridicule and vicious torment of his peers. After years of dedicated effort, and a fresh start in a town away from his childhood and adolescent tormentors, he had finally begun to truly realize what he'd been striving for all along. Only, fate apparently has other plans because in the blink of an eye, Erik found himself snatched from Earth and taken to another universe, another world, where he is offered the chance to be more than he'd ever imagined. Now, he has to fight to restore the Balance between Chaos and Order on a world of swords and magic, in a universe governed by the System's laws, which resemble those of RPGs from Earth. Erik learned to embrace the things about himself that others taught him to hate, using them to reforge his physical identity into something more removed from his old self-loathing. But can he learn to embrace the darkest parts of his mind just as he did the reviled aspects of his body and become who he needs to be to succeed in the task set before him? It might just prove easier to stalk in the dark as a monster than to walk in the light as a man... *This is my first time publishing anything I've written to a public audience. Due to formatting issues, I forwent traditional stat-screens for something a little less problematic, delineating stat screens by separating them from regular text with horizontal lines in a lighter-grey coloration. Let me know if you like them or not. Criticism is entirely welcome, but please don't hate on my work after only reading 1 chapter. This is a writing project I intend to complete but I have committment problems so we'll see how long this goes on. Also, fair warning, as the description implies, the main protagonist is intended to be someone who has been treated cruelly, developed antisocial tendencies, and ultimately has to question his own humanity--or lack thereof. This story is not intended to be brutally dark but I will definitely be trying to follow a darker theme. It is intended to be violent and some scenes later in the story might be...alarming. There will likely also be some light, non-graphic (think more implied with crude jokes and conversation than actual details, there will be no full-blown sex scenes)relationship scenes planned later and if you're opposed to either a bisexual or gay main character, stay away. I haven't yet decided which way he's going to swing but the odds on him being straight are relatively miniscule, and I've always wanted to write a story about a gay man who basically looks like a lumberjack because who doesn't like giving conventional stereo-types the middle finger? This will NOT be a harem story, and I have no intention to focus on romance over action--it's a consequence of character development where I'm concerned, not the be-all-end-all of the story. The cover-art does not, in any way, belong to me. It was an image titled the Druid King (by duskanmarkovic according to the file name) which I found on Google Images. Until I can get something commissioned, this is the best stand-in image I could find.
