《Immortal Stranger》Volume 2: Chapter 14: Epilogue

“Damn it!”

The Demon Progenitor screamed out his frustration after his latest experimental subjects exploded into a pile of red mush.

It was yet another failure.

This man was known as Lord Necron, one of the seven Demon Progenitors and the creator of the 10 Demon Blades, a group consisting of 10 strongest demons in his faction.

His experiments until now were all for the sake of making the demon-kind stronger.

Using the cells of other types of monsters, he hoped to eliminate the extreme weakness all demons possessed, their inability to handle sunlight.

His experiments produced only a few successes.

Some demons he created could attain a temporary resistance to sunlight, but it never lasted long.

As far as demons he created, only two managed to display permanent resistance to sunlight, but it was not exactly a success. When they were in broad daylight they were weakened and could not access their demon powers. They were just as mortal as humans under daylight.

Original demons did not have a weakness to sunlight, but humans who were turned into ‘pseudo-demons’, including Necron, developed a weakness to sunlight. Necron couldn’t help but consider all demons, him included, inferior copies of the Original Demon.

The other progenitors managed to create demons with similar results, but from what he could tell, they also were imperfect experiments.

Even if a demon managed to survive sunlight, they would be left mortal and vulnerable, unable to even regenerate.

Worse yet, the resistance to sunlight is not a stable ability, with most demons that have acquired it ending up eventually losing it, burning to dust in the process.

In order to rule over humanity, demons needed to rule both the day and the night.

For such a goal, countless experiments were necessary.

But no matter what kind of monster cells he used, he was still far from finding his desired solution.

“If only that race of monsters was not extinct…”

Once, there was a race of monsters that have roamed all over the land. They were called the Yaksha.

They were said to be a cousin species of demons, but they could not be more different.

Demons, or at least, the ones known as demons nowadays, are created by infusing a human with progenitor’s or another demon’s blood. Yaksha, on the other hand, are not created, but born monsters.

While not particularly powerful and with limited regenerative ability, Yaksha were infamous for having no natural weakness, including sunlight. Other monsters may have had similar traits, but this race of monsters had unique bodies that made them very compatible with demon biology.

Unfortunately, by the time Necron discovered that, all the monsters of that race were already killed off.

He needed a live specimen or at least a portion of the body with living cells intact, not a corpse.

No matter how strong a demon is, under sunlight he would either get killed or will be too weak to resist being slaughtered.

If only there was at least one living Yaksha still left in this world….

Necron: “How long are you planning on standing there?! If you have a report, enter or leave!”

“As you wish, Lord Necron”

It was a woman wearing simple kimono, but now covered all over in her blood. She was missing her right arm below the elbow, with the bandaged stump still leaking fresh blood.

Her name was Mara and she was one of Necron’s human subordinates.

Necron: “My, my, Mara, what exactly happened to you? Were the Demon Hunters stronger than expected?”

Mara: “No, Milord. It was not the Demon Hunters…It was a monster”

Necron: “A monster, huh? Do tell”

She gave him a complete description of the creature she encountered.

It was a monster that was near indistinguishable from a human at a first glance, but possessed regenerative ability and was unaffected by sunlight or the holy steel in the tip of her arrow.

Mara: “And his eyes were pitch black”

Necron: “It can’t be…”

Only the stronger types of monster possessed regenerative ability.

And even less were immune to holy element.

That monster having black eyes only confirmed his suspicions.

Necron: “Ha-ha-ha! That is it! SO THERE WAS ONE LEFT AFTER ALL! Ha-ha-ha!”

The demon progenitor’s delight knew no bounds.

Finally, his time had come.

It was his chance to seize the prize before all the other progenitors.

Grabbing hold of Mara, with his claws digging deep into her shoulders, Necron uttered.

Necron: “I want him….The Yaksha….He…will…be…MINE!”
