《Eternal Teacher》Chapter 8: Rewards and Burdens

When Connal and the Village Chief came up to me they whispered to each other. Noticing my stare the Chief stopped and smiled bowing like the did in old japanese movies he said
“Oh mighty Giant on be-half of the entire village I thank you for coming to the rescue and saving all the people here.”
At those words I decided to speak for the first time. Looking at the little girl as i said
“Not...All….Of…..Them”
Feeling the emotion in my voice the Chief gave a downward look to the girl and women beside her
“My condolences child i too know the feeling of lose a relative” turning to the older women “Does the child have a relative to stay with?”
The old women looked at the chief and shook her head
“No the only living relative she has left is her cousin and since she is marrying your son i would not suggest putting her there, I am too old to take a child of this age.”
Seeing this happen many times in my past life i remember the soldiers who would later return to those same countries and adopt those children. With the thought in my mind i knew my wife in heaven would not mind another child in the family even if i was the only one she would meet.
Raising my head the chief and woman looked at me
“I ….Will….Take….Care...of…...Her”
*Shit why is my voice coming out like this?*
*The vocal cords of the Giants are used for low frequency communication thus the human tongue along with other races require the Giants to strain their voices causing pauses between words*
Hearing my words all three of the people not including the child looked at me with surprise. With their eyes on me I began to crack under the pressure and said

“Only….If….She….Wants…”
With those words their faces relaxed understanding that i would not just pull her away from what the child desired to do.
*Appraisal what will happen to the child if she doesn't stay with me?*
*The answer is commen she will most likely be sold to a wealthy family as a maid and treated like a second hand citizen of the country she is sent to. Fairies are seen by many races as toys and those who become mads are likely to be used as relief for the wealthy*
At those words my mind went into over-drive to keep this from happening, when they all looked at the child she saw them and buried her face into the old woman’s sleeve
-Camellia POV-
As the Giants deep voice let out those last words they looked at me, hiding my face I couldn't believe what i heard. This person that I just met and not even a race my own village has ever seen before has offered to become my caretaker. What does he know of my kind ? ,I know that my cousin can’t take me in and Nanna (the old woman) can’t take me either because of her age but still. Deep in my heart i was scared but then the Village chief said something i didn’t know
“Young lady i know this is a lot to take in but this person is willing to share your hardship through this difficult time. Giants above all the other races have experienced the most hard ship, from slaves to being forced to fight their own kind for the entertainment of others, they know the pain it causes to lose a loved one.”
“Eye what the man says is true Camellia the Giants in the legends i had heard when i was your age spoke of their love for the land and the creatures in it” said Nanna

With those words I looked up at the Giant. His eyes a light shade of green gazed back at me. Seeing my face he smiled showing warmth in the action. If this person will take the pain with me maybe i can deal with it. With a whisper of my voice I said
“Ok…”
-MC POV-
At the words of the child a message popped up in my vision
Camellia has accepted your proposal
Camellia has gain the surname of Therris
Congratulations on making a Family!
*So i will get messages like this as well hmmm*
The child looked at me and asked meekly
“My name is Camellia, can i know your name please.”
So with her question i answered
“Mora...Therris..”
As we looked at each other the wizard who came with me and Connal walked up to us
“I'm sorry to interrupt Connal but the smoke is gone we can leave the field now.”
“Alright then well why don’t we all head back to my inn. Mora was it? , you and Camellia can stay there as long as you want.”
With Connal’s words i nod and stand up reaching down to Camellia i offered my hand.At this she reaches out and grabs it.At that i lifted her up and placed her on my shoulder so she wouldn’t need to walk all the way to the village. Surprised by this the girl smiled as we walked back to the village

The story begins with an elderly hermit mage living on the outskirts of a labyrinth town. Invoking spellwork that is trivial for a mage of his caliber, he creates a simple mud automaton to aid him in household chores. However, in the middle of his efforts, something goes wrong; his ancient heart finally fails. Now, half complete and with limited understanding of the world, an artificial being of mud stirs. Despite its limitations, it has a mission to fulfill. The last instructions of a dying creator. "Defend my home, and my possessions." To the mechanical mind of Mud, only absolute perfection is acceptable when fulfilling the orders of The Master. Mud will make sure nothing in the universe will ever threaten The Master's home! --- This fiction contains RPG elements such as skills and levels. The protagonist has an inhuman mind and acts on instincts and preferences that are completely different from those of a normal human, and may at times fly in the face of common sense. The general tone is lighthearted, but there are some scenes with disturbing content such as mind control and references to torture. Join our Discord to discuss the novel or chat with the author.
