《Catastrophe Teacher》Chapter 8: Fisticuffs

Despite their heated argument earlier, Dante and Selena walked together towards their classroom.
After all, it's not like they can go on different paths.
Dante was still fuming but he was calmer than before.
Selena on the other hand is the picture of calmness. While being a war freak, Selena is fully aware of the possible consequences of her unbridled actions and behavior.
And despite the consequences, she still chose to attack Giles yesterday.
For her, some things are just worth being punished for.
Knowing that she has another chance to have a go against Giles, Selena started to lightly hum to herself.
This annoyed Dante.
"Can you just shut up?"
Selena chuckles. She wasn't the type to pass up a fight, even verbal ones.
"Awww, you grew out of lullabies?"
Dante almost growls at that. Selena just chuckles. Dante would strangle her if he knew what she was thinking.
For someone who comes from a rich family... he's like an underdeveloped caveman. Speaking with grunts and growls.
The two continue on their way.
James and Leila, who are avoiding their professor, are walking through the same pathway that Dante and Selena are following.
When Dante and Selena turn around a corner, James and Leila almost bump into them.
James quickly speaks up.
"Woah there, be careful where you're walking."
Dante scowls at James but ignores him. Dante moves to the side.
Selena on the other hand sizes up James and Leila. After a quick look towards James, Selena rolls her eyes. She didn't find him interesting.
After looking away from James, Selena then looks at Leila. Selena and Leila's eyes both glimmer.
Almost at the same time, the two girls speak.
"Nice."
"Nice."
Leila gives Selena a knowing smile, a smile between battle-crazy individuals. After giving Leila a final look, Selena moves to the side to leave.
But before Selena could leave, James realizes that both Selena and Dante aren't wearing the academy's uniforms.
Only the students of the Catastrophe class' are allowed to do that.
While James starts formulating what to do, Leila speaks to Selena.
"You a freshman?"
Selena liked Leila so she stopped to reply.
"Yeah, what about it?"
Leila smiles.
"I haven't seen you before. You're new. You aren't wearing your uniform. Be careful of the strict professors."
Selena smiles.
"Thanks but I think my professor's a chill and lax person."
Leila chuckles.
"Aww, lucky! Our professor couldn't recognize fun if it stabbed him in the face, I've tried."
Selena quickly retorts.
"Stabbing him the face?"
"That too!"
Selena and Leila giggle at each other.
James turns around and sees Dante a few feet away, waiting for Selena to catch up. Dante was scowling.
Hmmm, they had a bad mood earlier. I guess he's one of those types.
"My name is Leila Hagya. What's yours?"
Leila offers her hand to Selena. Selena takes it without pause, smiling at Leila.
"Selena Woreset."
They shake their hands and Leila lets Selena go.
When Selena walks away, Leila looks pleased. She found someone interesting.
James, however, is not pleased.
"Leila, didn't you notice something was off?"
Leila looks at her peer.
"Like what?"
James frowns.
"Remember what we discussed earlier about the catastrophe class?"
Leila thinks but she doesn't fully remember. She was too busy thinking of fighting.
"I guess."
"Well, notice those two."
Leila looks behind her.
She sees Selena teasing Dante when they walk together again.
"Uh-huh? What should I notice? Are they a couple?"
James slowly palms his hand over his face.

"They aren't wearing uniforms?"
"And? I don't like wearing mine either."
Fuck this.
James creates a projection of energy through his will and sends a beam towards Dante and Selena.
"HEY!!"
Leila quickly reacts and grabs James' wrist but the energy was already released and was flying towards Dante and Selena.
Dante and Selena seem to react immediately as they both turn. They infuse their bodies with will and release their own energy projection towards the incoming beam of power.
The three beams of energy collide and James' greater energy overwhelms Selena and Dante's beam. But the momentary delay allows the two of them to dodge.
The beam hits a wall but instead of destroying it, it simply dissipates due to the dean's imbued energy.
Students start to gather around due to the disturbance.
Dante and Selena scowl. The two of them canceled their fight to avoid a scene earlier yet someone's attacking them, wasting their efforts not to fight.
Leila sees the two students unharmed from James' attack. When she studied Selena, Leila knew that in terms of raw power, Selena was extremely below her.
Slowly, she lets go of James' arm. James speaks, pushing his point.
"Do you see what I mean?"
Leila nods and speaks out her thoughts.
"No normal freshman would have been able to dodge that..."
James nods.
Leila looks at Selena who is staring back at her. Selena's scowl slowly turns to a smile as she starts to pant and sweat in anticipation. Selena starts thinking to herself.
No cameras. No news. Only a good fight... And this one's raring to go.
Selena starts to walk towards Leila. Leila smiled and started to walk towards Selena.
"Wait!"
Selena is suddenly pulled back and notices Dante holding the back of her clothes.
"What's the problem brat?"
Selena shrugs his hand off and tries to walk forward.
"I said wait!"
Selena sighs and rolls her eyes. She turns to look at Dante with an exasperated look.
"What?"
Dante replies.
"Didn't you feel that energy?? Don't tell me you didn't!"
Selena gives Dante a grimace.
"I did, that's why I want to fight both of them!"
Dante states a fact.
"You'll lose."
Selena didn't care and responded with a nonchalant response.
"So? I just want to fight and getting beat up is part of the fun.
Leila hears this and chuckles.
"I like her more and more."
James nods.
"Maybe we can bring her over to our side."
Leila quickly denies Jordan.
"Nah."
James looks surprised but before he could ask, Leila explains.
"I want a strong enemy, not a sparring partner."
Then Leila runs toward Selena.
While Dante is scolding Selena, Leila quickly closes the gap and appears in front of Selena.
Leila, without using any will, throws out a powerful punch towards Selena.
Selena's inherent instincts warn her of danger and she manages to dodge at the last second. Her white shirt gets shredded from Leila's incredibly fast punch revealing her strong physique. Dante screams in surprise at the imagery he just witnessed.
Selena's power starts to time itself. Being in the same proximity as Selena, Dante felt attacked and he screams at Leila.
"You!"
Dante reacts by lifting his leg and delivering a powerful will-enhanced roundhouse kick towards Leila's face.
Selena backs away for a moment but quickly counters by throwing a left jab towards Leila.
Leila smiles, her violet hair seems to shine ever so slightly in the hallway. The two attacks are blocked by Leila's hands. With no warning, Leila strikes Dante with a powerful punch.

Dante is sent to a wall with great force and he shouts in pain while Selena is knocked backed with Leila's follow-up, a sidekick.
Before Selena could do anything, Leila moves forward and punches her face sending Selena flying. Selena hits the ground with so much force it staggers some of the nearby students. Due to the dean's imbued energy, the school is almost indestructible. The impact breaks Selena's nose which causes it to bleed but she is wearing a crazed smile.
Despite the pain, Selena starts to laugh as she stands up.
She enjoys pain as it's the only time she truly feels alive. The students watching the fight shiver at Selena's actions.
Selena starts running towards Leila.
Leila smiles at her opponent and the two clash.
Dante, on the other hand, picks himself up and prepares to help Selena but is stopped by James, who blocks his way.
"No can do there sir. Leila found someone to play with. If you join in now and you're lucky, you might just end up in a nursing home."
Dante glares at James but his combat mindset comes first. Dante swings his will-enhanced hand towards James. James lightly backs away, dodging the attack. A burst of energy exudes from James and Dante is sent crashing to the wall.
"Stay here for a while. I need to make sure Leila doesn't kill her."
Dante's body is wracked with pain but his mind is screaming bloody murder.
They're so strong, overwhelmingly so.
Dante stares at James who is nonchalantly watching Leila pummel Selena. Selena is doing her best to block, fight back, and parry but Leila is too strong and too fast for her.
Despite this, Selena is having fun. While Leila is bashing her head in, Selena keeps a wide smile on her face.
"Hey, Selena! Is this all you can do?! I thought for a minute we were kindred souls! It seems you're just a pretender!"
Selena's movements seem to dull as the pain starts to overwhelm her toughness.
Come on! Just a minute left!
Selena's unique power allows her to theoretically defeat any opponent, no matter how strong they are, as long as she has time. Despite the pummeling Selena is receiving, she notices that Leila is holding back, not aware of the danger of letting Selena build up.
Leila throws a powerful straight punch towards Selena but without any warning, Selena catches it with her hand. Selena spits out some blood and she grins.
"Got ya."
Leila becomes pleasantly surprised as she sees Leila's eyes transform into crimson red and tattoos start to appear on her face. Selena steps forward and punches Leila's face. Leila screams in joy just before the fist connects with her face.
"There we go!"
Leila is suddenly sent flying by Selena's powerful punch.
Dante sees this massive increase in power.
Her unique power! So this was why she was so confident picking a fight with me despite having a lower will.
James doesn't react. He simply watches the fight with a deadpan face. Despite the strength boost, James didn't feel threatened.
More students have gathered to watch the two girls duke it out.
Dante's body is currently being held by James' overwhelmingly more powerful will. He can't escape and he's helpless.
This feeling pisses him off.
Fuck it, this guy's getting it.
Dante activates his unique power and energy starts to gather around Dante.
Suzaku woke up early, at 5:00 AM to be exact. Ever since he came to this world, he always wakes up early. It was an old habit of Michael, the previous owner of Suzaku's body. It was ingrained in the body so Suzaku experienced it the same way Michael did.
He stood up and started stretching. According to the books of this world, one could strengthen their body endlessly, unlike the humans in his old world where there was a limit to what one's physical body could achieve.
Suzaku thought to himself.
I could become powerful.
Suzaku tried manifesting that power source the dean and Ava told him about.
Will.
The ability of humans to be on the same level as the gods and monsters of this world.
Despite his body having the capability, Suzaku can't muster any power.
Ms. Ava told me that this power is like second nature to humanity, almost like a third invisible arm...
Suzaku ruminates a bit.
Maybe, I can't easily access it because I'm not from here. She explained it to me in an easy way... maybe I need a more technical solution?
Suzaku continues his stretching and exercise so that his body doesn't become weak. He has been doing this routine the moment he was put into the dormitories.
Despite all his efforts, Suzaku could be defeated by almost anyone, as long as they had will.
After an hour of his routine exercise, Suzaku starts to prepare for class. Since he lives in the dormitory, he's seldom late unless he sleeps in late.
Suzaku takes a bathe and cooks something up from the fully stocked fridge.
Dr. Lyo promised that Suzaku would never have to worry about what to eat and where to live. He should just focus on learning and getting readjusted.
As long as Suzaku stayed in the school, he will be protected from the people and organizations wanting to exploit him.
Suzaku made bacon and eggs, along with some rice. He loved the taste of the food here. Apparently being superhuman meant having more senses available to you.
Suzaku's body, or Michael's body, was able to taste food in so many ways.
After filling himself with breakfast, Suzaku cleans up and makes his way out of the dormitory.
When outside, Suzaku checked his watch.
It was 6:30 AM.
Still early... maybe I should visit the library again?
While thinking about what to do, Suzaku hears a nearby door open. He turns to his right and sees a young girl, wearing bright clothes, exit her dorm.
She hums a light but energetic tune.
She locks the door and she lightly taps her feet. If Suzaku didn't pay attention, he wouldn't notice that the girl was lightly swaying her hips to the tune.
"Second day~~~~ Second-day~~~~"
Suzaku notices her lack of uniform and remembers that she was in front of the class yesterday. She didn't participate in the fight with professor Giles.
Oh, I think this was... Carla? Carry?
"Carly?"
When she hears her name, Carly turns around with a bright smile. Her brown hair seems to shine in the sunlight along with her very bright disposition.
"Yes??"
Carly's eyes light up.
"Oh! You're that classmate of mine! Michael right?"
Suzaku seems to shy a bit from her energetic vibe.
No! New life! Come on man!
Suzaku turns back to Carly who seems to be staring straight at his soul.
So bright.
"Ummm... yes and no?"
"Oh!"
Carly covers her mouth.
"Sorry! I forgot about your ummm... circumstance. You're Suzu something right?"
Suzaku chuckles at Carly but he nods.
"You can call me that sure."
"Okay! Nice to meet you Suzu!"
Carly presents her hand which Suzaku takes.
He feels his body vibrate a bit.
Carly retracts her hand quickly.
"Oops! Sorry! I just get so excited about meeting new people! And a neighbor to boot! That was my unique power."
Suzaku shakes his head lightly. He offers for them to walk together.
"It's no problem. Hey, since we're neighbors... You wanna walk to school together?"
Carly nods.
"Sure! I'd love to walk to school with you."
Suzaku laughs lightly, a bit perturbed by Carly's brazenness.
Carly starts walking. Suzaku walks beside her. Carly raises her arm as she speaks.
"Let's go! To our exciting class!"
Suzaku was weirded out by that.
"Exciting? You aren't angered by our professor?"
Carly shakes her head.
"Sir Ivor? Nope!"
"Wh-why? He called us freaks."
Carly tilts her head. Suzaku finds that cute.
"And?"
Suzaku didn't know what to feel. She was too nonchalant.
"Don't you feel offended by that?"
Carly smiles, which causes Suzaku to lightly pause. He felt that Carly didn't want to talk about this. Since Carly didn't want to continue the topic, Suzaku started to talk about something else.
The two talk about a lot of things, especially pop culture and some famous people. Suzaku is enjoying his time with this bubbly girl. Carly, on the other hand, is smiling, laughing, and giggling the whole time.
They reach the gates and start to walk towards their class. Everything was fine and dandy until they notice a huge crowd blocking their paths.
Suzaku shrugs and speaks to Carly.
"Well, we might have to take the other hallway to class."
When Carly doesn't answer, Suzaku calls her name.
"Carly?"
Carly tiptoes a bit so she can see what's happening.
"Isn't that Dante?"
Suzaku looks at the commotion the crowd is watching.
In the middle of this big crowd are Selena and Leila fighting. Selena manages to give Leila a good fight with her 1st power boost. Carly tells Suzaku what's happening.
"That's Dante and Selena! And they're fighting someone?"
Carly sees Dante pinned to a wall.
"There's Dante. Why isn't he doing anything to help?"
Suzaku points at James who's nonchalantly watching the fight unfold.
"He's preventing Dante from helping."
Carly frowns.
"We... we have to help them!"
Suzaku raised an eyebrow.
"Why?"
Suzaku's question shocks Carly for a bit.
"What do you mean why? They're our classmates!"
Suzaku seems hesitant.
Why do I need to help them? I barely know them.
When Suzaku doesn't answer, Carly frowns.
"If you aren't going to help, I'm going to!"
Carly starts to make her way towards Dante and Selena but before she could move through the crowd, an explosion of energy shocks the crowd and Carly.
Suzaku's eyes widen a bit as he stares at Dante who is now standing with a pair of black ornate gloves on his hands.
James, who was focused on Leila's fight, suddenly turns around.
Before he could say anything, Dante, who already broke James' hold, lunges forward and punches James in the jaw.
James, who wasn't using his will to strengthen his body, feels a powerful blow reverberate through his face.
Dante's will skyrockets due to the summoning of his magic gloves.
"You fucker! I'm going to break you!"
James backs away a bit, surprised by Dante's attack. Once he recovers, he studies Dante.
Dante's hands are covered by black metal gloves with golden inlays imprinted into them.
A magic item?? His will rose by almost three times. A gift from his family I suppose.
James becomes a bit pissed. Just like Dante, James comes from a rich and affluent family but unlike Dante, James wasn't cared for by his family. He was the youngest of the 4 sons and had the weakest potential. In fact, James has a below-average potential.
He only got where he is now through hard work, loopholes, and surrounding himself with people that could help him grow. This was all because of his intellect. Because of this relatively harsh life, James thinks Dante isn't deserving of this magic item.
"A magic item? You were keeping such an item? I want it."
Dante smiles at that remark.
Yeah, try it dumbass.
Dante moves forward and does a straight punch. James responds by moving slightly backward, just avoiding Dante's reach.
Despite not reaching, James is sent flying by an outward force released by the magical gauntlets. Feeling good, Dante looks at Leila.
"Yeah! Now it's your turn!"
Dante points at Leila.
Leila ignores Dante.
Selena's speed and strength are on par with Leila's.
Dante starts to move towards Leila.
Wait for m-
James appears in front of him with blinding speed. Following his instincts, Dante punches James again but James quickly grabs his hand and twists.
Dante grunts in pain as he feels an overwhelming force grasp his arm. James gives Dante a disapproving look.
"Unlike Leila, I don't play with my food."
James grabs Dante's neck and quickly raises him up. Dante infuses his body with will and starts punching James' face. James on the other hand doesn't flinch.
"Now, give me those gauntlets or I'll break your hands."
Leila speaks while effortlessly fighting with Selena.
"You're no fun, James. I wanted to try fighting both of them."
James scowls.
"Shut up Leila."
Leila scowls a bit but goes back to fighting Selena. Selena makes multiple attacks but suddenly Leila grabs her hands with almost three times the speed she displayed earlier.
"I'm bored now. A shame you aren't as strong as you act Selena. Don't worry, I know you're young so I'll wait for that moment."
Leila's aura suddenly explodes with a massive amount of power, ten times the amount she used when fighting Selena.
Selena quickly feels overwhelmed and when Leila sends a single attack, she couldn't block in time and is sent through the crowd, unconscious. Her unique power deactivates and she reverts to her normal appearance.
Dante is slowly losing consciousness as James starts to choke the life out of him.
"Gloves now."
Despite James choking the life out of Dante, Dante manages to be a snarky bastard.
"Eat me."
James chuckles.
"Not my first choice."
James continues choking Dante which causes gasps and surprised reactions from the group.
While the tense moments continue, a lazy voice rings out from the crowd.
"Excuse me. Excuse me. Excuse me. Sorry. Trying to get to class. Excuse me."
The crowd slowly parts for a disheveled but tall young man.
Stevie yawns a bit and continues walking until he sees Dante slowly losing consciousness and Selena on the floor knocked out cold.
Steve looks at James and taps his shoulder.
James looks back without letting go of Dante.
"Hey, can you let go of him? He's my classmate."
"Oh. Another one. Leila, take him out of my sight."
Leila goes towards Stevie but feels a heavy burden around her body.
James starts to feel it too. His eyes widen in panic.
It's the same as Christian's power!

8 206The Supernormal
In a world where fantasy has become everyday, one man stands against absurdity. The local Tower stomps through the streets. Any hedge could contain a witch. Walls regularly crumble, though none more often than the fourth. In the magical city of Blackpool, all ridiculousness is possible, and it takes everything for Jack Of All Trades to survive. Badly, at that. Perpetually late with his rent, he'll take up arms for any paying customer in order to fulfill his quest. His obstacles include polka-loving ghosts, card-game playing vampires, and the most vicious monsters of all: copyright lawyers. When he's joined by an arrogant magus and an insecure vampire, his life gets even more complicated, but no matter what kind of infuriating choose-your-own-adventure he finds himself on, one constant remains—his rent is due at the end of the month. On second thoughts, maybe he should stay in bed. The Supernormal isn't your average web-novel. It's an urban fantasy parody that saunters through a world full of the absurd, delighting in poking fun at popular media, widely-accepted ideas, and often itself. Story arcs only loosely connect through the characters, who are themselves slowly fleshed out as the story continues. Think of Discworld meets The Dresden Files meets Gintama. This novel won't be for everyone, but if it is for you, you're in for a hell of a ride.
