《Cosmic Contingency》Chapter 29 - Some People Should Be Left Undisturbed

There was no real losers in the fight between Morgan and Vera. They were able to show the reasons why they are considered the top of their batch. The students are now excited to see how the future rankings would look. Of course this is not the same for all. For those who are not on good terms with Vera or Morgan are downhearted. The person who would probably be the most impacted would be Elvin. Ironically, due to him being unconscious, he was not able to see the two fight.
The fight between Morgan and Vera became the last fight for the day. The whole event lasted 20 hours and since a day in Venturia lasted 30 Earth hours, this means that they have been here for two-thirds of the day. The magic class was 8 hours while the exams and the interclass competitions lasted 6 hours each.
The instructors dismantled the stage while the students started to leave one by one. As for Cyziel, he was requested to stay. Some of the students also stayed to wait for their classmates who are still recuperating. Obviously, this included Vera, Morgan and Elvin who were sent into one of the private rooms in the building.
Cyziel was brought to the room where he was previously tested. Volus was also asked to come so his groupmates Talas and Ayri tried to follow but only Volus was allowed to go inside the room. Inside the room, Ortix was already waiting for them. Instructor Elric was also inside to watch over him. Together with Larka and Sara, there were 3 instructors inside.
"You guys may sit!" Elric pointed at the empty space beside Ortix who was already seated.
Cyziel sat on the left of Ortix then Volus sat on the left of Cyziel.
"Let me first confirm this." Sara turned to Cyziel. "The three of you arrived during the recent Aether storm?"
"Yep!" Ortix answered instead. Sara momentarily looked at him before focusing on Volus.
"You are from the Dielif race correct?" Sara asked.
Volus nodded. Sara seemed to be satisfied with their current answers. She was actually verifying things that they already have checked. She then looked at Cyziel again.
"One thing I heard is that you and Ortix are from the same race. Is that correct? If that is so, where are your other people?"
Ortix immediately looked at Cyziel because those things are just lies that they made up from before.
"Let's just say we came from the same planet but we are not really the same race. As for my people, I myself do not know." Cyziel replied.
"I see. Something similar to the people from the teeny planet. Then I-"
"Ahh! Stop with the boring questioning Sara!" Larka interrupted, shoving Sara to the side. "What we really want to know is who are you three really?"
"I don't understand. We already confirmed who we are." Cyziel innocently said.
"Stop with the nonsense Cyziel!" Larka shouted. "You learned a level 4 earth magic just today and beaten all your enemies with level 0 spells. Don't tell me that you are just some nobody!"
"I see so this is what it is. You are curious why we are strong. Am I correct?" Cyziel asked, smiling at the instructors.
Larka scratched her head before sighing. "Yeah! That's right! I actually thought that you are just some new talented kid but hearing your scholarship results from Sara, I am quite sure that all of you are not normal."
"This question is actually a bit personal so I will just answer for myself. " Cyziel's eyes turned back to its original golden color. He first observed it the people around him would be placed in a trance. Luckily, it seems that it didn't do anything this time. He was still unsure of why it happens randomly. He probably need to have a talk with Lucia. "I am a member of the royalty in our race. I just wish that you will keep quiet about this."

Just as before, he really don't have any problems disclosing this information but he still didn't want it to widely spread. Otherwise, there might be some large fuss that would cause him some inconvenience like the time he told it with his group mates.
"You are a royalty?" Elric unconsciously uttered.
"Like a prince?" Sara added.
"Prince?" Cyziel pondered. With the translation magic in effect, he thought of the possible direct meaning of the word. "Oh.. I see... If it means a direct descendant of the king then no! But our royalties extend to the other relatives of the king up to 5 distant connections. For me, since my father is the brother of the king then I am 2 connections away from the king. "
"Your royalties are stronger than the common folk?" Larka asked.
"Normally? Yes. Isn't it the same for some other race like Lucris?" Cyziel replied. He actually learned this information from Vera who has a blood of a noble.
"I see. It makes sense. The same with our race." Sara then bowed her head. " My apologies. That information should be something confidential. We didn't know that you have a royal blood."
Cyziel waved his hand. "No. Its fine! No need to apologize. You are not my people so just treat me as a normal student."
Royalty might be some honorable title for some race like those from Earth. But for those from Lucris, it was a symbol of actual power. Since the ancient times of their race, there were always at least one person that would be born with an abnormal magicus that would grow to exceed everyone else in their race. This person would be crowned as a king or queen. The reason is not only because of power but also because that person would be the symbol of hope for the Lucrims.
Each generation normally grew weaker. This means that the children have a lesser quality of magicus compared to their parents. There are some rare cases were the child's magicus would not deteriorate. Even rarer was those born with a greater magicus. For those that are called a king or queen, it could take centuries or a millennia before one is born. During their time in Lucris, the maximum number of monarchs that are alive at the same generation was three. If a potential monarch gets killed before even producing their own heirs then it would cause a huge impact for their whole race.
Fortunately, this information is a bit outdated. After arriving in Venturia, the magicus of Lucrims stopped deteriorating and instead, it only got strengthened. It is nothing actually surprising since even humans who are unfamiliar with magic like earthlings were able to develop a magicus in just a few years living here. Still, Lucrims kept their respect for those of the royalty since it doesn't change the fact that their royalties are still the strongest of their race.
"What about Ortix?" Elric interjected. He has already been with Ortix in the room for quite some time but he only got nonsense answers when he asked him some questions. This only lead to him being more curious about him.
"Oh you are curious about me? Well. I am also kind of a royalty!" Ortix chuckled.
"So you are also born lucky huh!" Elric quipped.
"Ha-Hahaha! Hahaha!" Ortix wickedly laughed before turning silent. His eyes turned red and the tattoos in his arms started to glow. "If escaping death everyday as a kid is lucky then sure I am." He then said as he looked directly at Elric's eyes.

Elric reflexively activated reinforce body combat art as he jumped away from Ortix.
"Ort." Cyziel calmly said causing Ortix to revert to his normal state.
"Did you just try to intimidate me?" Elric was furious due to him getting scared in that moment.
"Stop it Elric." Sara then turned to Ortix. "I could finally understand why you act rebellious but remember that we can kick you out or label you dangerous if you keep acting like that." Sara could surmise based on Ortix previous answer that he had some harsh childhood. She thought that just like Cyziel, he is still young so he still needed some guidance.
"Hmph! You understand nothing." Ortix snorted before looking away.
Sara ignored the reply of Ortix as she turned to Volus. "From what I know, you are some kind of top student."
"Do you know what a sect is?" Volus asked.
"Oh! I do!" Larka interjected.
"I am a direct disciple."
Sara looked Larka. "Does he meant like a personal student?"
"Kinda. You see, we have a similar type of schools in our home world. Those that have potential are given more attention, privilege and resources. As for him, he is one of those that are deemed to have the highest potential." Larka answered.
"Then wouldn't that be unfair for others?" Sara asked.
"It is the same for everyone else isn't it? Nothing is always fair. Some are born better than others and if we want to beat them then we just need to work harder than them. You probably also have favorite students yourself." Volus flatly said. His face was blank, seemingly dictating that what he said was a fact and they should just accept.
I guess he is right but how come that this one guy seemed really mature! Sara sighed before smiling. "I think we have asked you all a lot. I understand that you are all talented but please at least try to restrain yourselves and not cause to much commotion."
Cyziel jerked back. "I restrained myself didn't I?"
"Yes you did but you are too flashy! You even purposely used low level spells." Sara yelled. "Anyway, what kind of spell did you use in your last fight?"
"Oh! You probably already know that magic is not limited to the usual elemental spells right?"
"You meant something like holy magic or force magic." Elric asked.
"Something like that but what I meant was there are other essences that we could use." Cyziel opened his palm then essences of different types converged above it.
"Wait! What is that gray essence? There is also a violet essence!" Sara remarked. "Larka hand me the sensitivity orb."
Larka reached out for a clear crystal orb with a black circular stand on the bottom. She then gave it to Cyziel. "I was supposed to test you earlier with this. Unlike the affinity test, you must inject the orb with all types of essences you could muster."
The sensitivity orb like the affinity orb was wirelessly connected to the holographic screen in the table. It allows you to get your affinity with each element.
Cyziel placed his hand on the orb and injected it the all the essences that he knew. The clear orb was suddenly filled with countless colorful gas. In addition to the violet and gray, there was the usual blue, red, brown, yellow and green. There were also the rarer black and white colors. Finally, there are some undecipherable colors due to the mixing of the essences.
The computer in the table started to beep and the holographic screen was filled with the results of the test.
Fire Sensitivity - Very High
Water Sensitivity - Very High
Wind Sensitivity - Very High
Earth Sensitivity - Very High
Lightning Sensitivity - Very High
Light Sensitivity - Very High
Dark Sensitivity - Very High
Unknown Essence Sensitivity - High

Unknown Essence Sensitivity - High
Larka was smiling from ear to ear. "You have sensitivity for all the elements!"
"This is impossible!" Elric shouted. The teachers themselves only have a high affinity it at most 3 elemental planes. Having a very high in all the elements is almost unheard of.
Sara opened her eyes wide before frowning. She noticed the unknown essence listed below. "Is this what you are talking about?"
"Yep!" Cyziel nodded.
"Why are two so calm? Can you not see how absurd his result is?" Elric shouted. He was almost on the verge of getting insane. He could not understand how someone would get a result like this. "Is the machine even working properly."
"You should calm down!" Larka shouted before laughing on herself. Well I also acted like that this morning. The gold in the affinity test was also unheard of.
"No! We should immediately report this to the school council!" Elric retorted.
"Enough! You will not speak anything about this to the higher ups! Including my father! Didn't you agree not to tell anything of anything that you will learn here?" Sara furiously said. "Additionally, do you really want to inconvenience these kids?"
Sara pointed at the trio. Ortix was in his usual arrogant smirk. Cyziel was in his ambiguous smile. Volus was still wearing his indifferent face. There was no signs of fear on each of them. It was also very hard to understand what the three was thinking.
"But-"
"Enough let us talk about this later." Sara then turned to Cyziel. "So what essence did you use?"
"Death essence. Really effective against living creatures." Cyziel nonchalantly answered.
The color in the face of the instructors went pale. Even Ortix and Volus was alerted. The mention of the word death in all of their language means the end of life.
"Oh! Don't worry. I just did a basic spell. I stopped his organs from functioning for like a second. He trained his body well so he actually have great resistance towards it so he immediately recovered. I also healed him afterwards so its really nothing."
"Hahaha!" Larka laughed. "You are really weird but you seem to already be knowledgeable in magic. I do not know if I could actually teach you anything. "
"Ah! The electronic book you sent me was actually really informational. If you have any more of this book then I would like to request for more." Cyziel requested.
Larka looked at Sara. She was getting confirmation from her.
"Just give him all the copies of the magic book that we have. Give him even the advance books for graduating students." Sara uttered.
"You heard her. I'll send you the copies later. Anyway, can I still use Cyziel for interclass magic competitions?" Larka asked.
"Absolutely not!" Sara then looked at Cyziel. "Cyziel you are banned from magic competitions starting today. The only competitions you could join are against upper classmen and during interschool competitions. This means competition against other institutes."
"That's enough for me!" Larka chuckled. "We are surely winning the next interschool competition."
"Wait! What about the other two?" Elric asked.
"They are fine. They could still join." Sara then looked at Ortix. "But don't violate the rules again. No combat arts during magic exams. Go use those arts during fighting competitions."
"Wait! What about my grades if I could not compete?" Cyziel complained. What the instructors didn't know is that the only reason why Cyziel tried to show off was that he was naturally competitive. He actually just wanted to get a higher grade. He didn't try to challenge the rest of the top 10 because he wanted them to prepare for him. He wouldn't even try to join the duels if he didn't know about the rankings that existed.
He is really like a kid. Sara shook her head. "Larka?"
"Oh! No need to worry! I'll make sure you get the highest grade." Larka answered.
"Really? Yes!" Cyziel then smirked at Ortix and Volus.
"Oh come on! I'm not competing with you!" Volus sighed.
"Ok fine. You win this one. No point competing with you." Ortix chuckled.
"There. You won't need to worry about your magic classes. You probably would also excel in combat classes." Sara uttered.
"You should still take magic exams at least for show. Go focus more on survival and technology subjects. We can't have you dying after all." Larka jested.
"Okay! You three may go!" Sara ordered. "And don't forget. Lay low starting today. Especially you Ortix. You are already infamous for beating up your classmates. You should avoid getting in more trouble."
The trio then went out of the room and met with their group mates who are waiting for them outside.
-- Inside the testing room after the trio left--
"Why did you allow the other two to compete?" Larka asked.
"I am their teacher did you forget? They are talented but it is not that unfair. Volus excels in Light and Dark magic. He also has a high affinity for Fire. For Ortix, he is even worse. He has high affinity to Wind and Dark magic. Of course that is already good but nothing really special." Sara answered.
"And why shouldn't we report about their results to the school council?" Elric seriously asked.
"You still don't understand it do you. You should know that I am not the only one who took their test but not one of us actually spoke of the specifics of their results. Do you understand why?"
"Why?"
"Because it would just cause chaos. The council members have their own agenda! I can't even trust my own father who is the current director of this institute." Sara grinded her teeth. She has heard of some underhanded things that the council was doing. Some even seemed unbelievable. There are council members who have connections with evil entities or organizations. Unfortunately, there are no concrete evidences to have apprehended. "These students might not care about their reputation but people would eventually start to rope them in."
"Then wouldn't it be better for them to know. In this case, a lot of people would be observing them. Those who have their agendas would not be able to act since they would need to be wary of each other." Elric argued.
"Then do what you want. I would warn you though. If someone offended those kids, blood will be spilled. You should have seen what they are capable of." Sara then walked towards the door. "Larka. Let's go."

8 187Epoch: An NPC's Tale
Epoch is a slow-burn LitRPG/Gamelit novel that tells the story of Luke, later named Lucius—a natural inhabitant of the game-like realm of Elyssia where thousands upon thousands of detached, virtually unkillable entities known as the Players were suddenly introduced right after the dusk of the magnificent Age of Heroes. Shortly after the Players arrived, the balance of power in Elyssia instantly shifted. Kingdoms fell, wars were waged, alliances between races were made, and Lucius, after ten years of training in captivity, found himself being used as a pawn in a prophecy that he had no intention to fulfill. With aspirations and desires of his own, Lucius must find a way to cautiously adapt to the drastic changes in the very foundations of the realm after being sent 300 years into a future that was forever altered by the outcome of the war that his captors had lost and the Players won in a victory that resounded throughout the ages, all for a terrible price. Author's Note As an avid fan of the LitRPG genre myself, I wrote this novel with character progression, heavy Gamelit elements, and some degree of world-building in mind. If you like these, please feel free to give this novel a try. Oh, and the MC is also an NPC, in a sense. And wait, isn't this also an isekai story? Well, it's all a bit complicated to explain here. Maybe you should start reading now?
