《Shadow of Steel》The Lost Mine - Part 2

“Their mistake. The company which holds the franchise gives you a manual with the seeds to ensure the best crop yield, and it says never to use insecticides, fertilizers, or any other chemicals near the Malvaos. It’s even printed in big, bold letters.” Joe shrugged. “Big and bold may be good for those with poor sight, but not for those poor of mind.”
Jenny looked down and kept her silence. Her uncle Joe was too harsh when it concerned others. Like with Uncle Bill who flunked high school. Everytime Uncle Bill opened his mouth, Uncle Joe quacked and circled around him while flapping his arms.
The silence spread for some minutes, then Joe said all of a sudden, “You ever heard of the Padres’ lost mine?”
“What’s that?” Jenny wrinkled her nose. She stared at her uncle waiting for him to answer his question. He might be opinionated and a bit rude, but he was full of stories that always managed to drag her from the city to visit him.
“It’s a local legend of sorts.” Joe adjusted his seating and turned to face Jenny. “The legend goes that around a hundred and fifty years ago, some priests fell on a gold vein so big, a mother lode of the highest grade, that it’s never been heard of before.”
“They managed to convince some Indian locals to work for them and they built a huge mine around the gold vein.” Joe nodded as if to some hidden audience and smiled. “But, for some unknown reason, the Indians got the impression that they were played for fools by the Padres.”
“One day, they took it in their heads to punish the Padres, and poof, the mine was gone.” He snapped his fingers and winked to the raptly fascinated Jenny.

“Some say that they just dismantled the whole thing, buried the mine, and changed the markers of the geography around it for the padres never to find it again. Which they didn’t.”
“Others say that they used ancient magic and sent the mine to their ancestral grounds.” He pointed to his nose and nodded.
“While yet others swear that it is located right here on my land and that someday when the curse is lifted, the gold will eventually show.” He laughed and leaned towards his niece and said in a low voice, “This is why I bought the land in the first place.”
Now it was Jenny’s turn to laugh.
“Did you try to find it?” Jenny asked him with glowing eyes.
“What for? The very day I bought the place, the people from Maga Farms came to me with their Malvao seeds. I might as well forget about the whole mine thing, since I am making enough profit without the hazards of a gold mine,” he chortled.

Magriculture (Rewrite)
When Aurum Industries announced the first Full Immersion Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (FIVRMMORPG if you're hip) Limitless Online, most people saw it as an opportunity to live out their sword and sorcery fantasies. John, however, saw it as the opening of a new and as of yet uncrowded job market. One he was willing, and eager, to exploit. Determined to make money through virtual hard work and effort, John sets his sights not on the heights of magic or the perfection of the sword, but instead upon the tilling of the soil and the sowing of seeds as he explores the wide and wonderful world of magical agriculture all from the comfort of his own bed. Disclaimer: This is a rewrite of the original "Magriculture", which some of you may have read. (To those who did, you have my deepest gratitude, it is absolutely because of your patronage and comments that this rewrite happened, and I feel the story is better for it.) That said, this story is not a complete and polished work, there will be mistakes and errors, an occasionally these errors may mean I need to rewrite portions of the story (as of this posting the story has gone through two major rewrites already, and I'm seriously hoping there won't be need of a third.) Because of this, there may at times be changes. Such changes may be as small as editing a few numbers (such as going back and changing how much mana an object holds) or it may force me to re-write entire chapters (this has happened once already, and I'm really hoping it doesn't happen again, but... life). Minor re-writes will probably never be posted here. Major rewrites probably will. Anyway, what this boils down to is: If you're looking for a fully cohesive story with few to no errors and publisher level editing, this is not the story for you. If you're looking for a cohesive plot that's more than "Man farms, man farms, man farms well, man maybe makes money" you're probably also in the wrong place, but I will attempt to entertain you anyway.
8 264The Draw Of The Unknown
Mia Campbell is your average introverted loner. Not exactly satisfied with her life doing pretty much nothing of import, she's also not that willing to break out and make a change. Until, without any preamble or warning, she is bestowed with a cryptic system that both grants her magical powers, and also operates on the logic of a card game. Things begin to escalate from there. **This project is a bit of an experiment! For any given chapter, Mia's 'decklist' will be built by the community, over on our Discord server. If you find this amusing, and want to participate in the discussion, as well as find the complete list of cards, you will be able to find the link to the Discord server at the end of each chapter. Discussion in the comments is also encouraged and included as well. Each chapter and/or scenario will be intentional, but the cards used will be chosen by you guys. And the draws made will be done via actual drawing of cards during the writing process, for bonus author street cred.**
