I know of the perfect story for this! It’ll be really short, but here goes:
Twas the end of the first semester (of school) last year, and as it was one of the very last days of class before classes changed, there were very few students at school. I was nearly alone in my third block class, writing a chapter of Life-Saving Guide when my ears picked up some interesting words coming from one of the few other people in the classroom…
“Yeah, so, my older brother got shot in the leg…”
Of course, my first reaction was alarm! Not because of the contents of the information, but the way she said it! It was so nonchalant, as though the person she was talking to shouldn’t be surprised!
She continued, talking about how her brother was mistaken for another guy when he was out walking and got shot on a drive-by. That information quickly saddened me and made it difficult to focus on my novel…
And then the girl said that she told her brother that she’d visit him in the hospital, but was considering not doing it because she…didn’t feel like it?!
I was very confused that day.

The Book of Mors: Summoned
Around two thousand years ago, The world of Acoria suffered what is known as The Great Calamity, turning the continent of Teknish into a smouldering wasteland, irradiated by chaotic mana and ravaged by savage energy storms, causing the surviving sentient races to flee to the much smaller and resource deficient continent of Malthasia. The year is now 2101 AGC (After Great Cataclysm) and the intense competition for space and resources has left humanity with only three surviving kingdoms, protected by the nearly impassable mountains of the Antaeth basin. Standing on the verge of collapse, the human kingdom of Vonai is forced to perform a summoning ritual, ripping souls from another dimension and implanting them into magically created bodies. Little do they know that by doing so, they have changed the fate of the world and everyone in it, for, in the infinite dimensions of the mortal realm, there are some existences you do not want to provoke. Minglings
Without any previous indication, all the televisions, smartphones, and radios start broadcasting a message recorded by the government leaders of the world. In it, they explain a horrible tragedy that is about to befall us. Our earth will blend with what is considered to be the primary dimension after having been apart for an unknown amount of time. The merger will not only affect the world, but also the beings on it, and humanity must mingle with other species or die out. Everybody will need to determine the other-dimensional race to pick. The world leaders have known of this for many years and have tried preparing people by creating popular fiction, games, and movies. These are nothing more than tutorials of what is about to happen.
