《Warfare's Ultimate Frontier》Chapter 296 Jaxon Long, The Aerial Peak

Madam Zheng had an inkling of an idea of what was going on after she saw Baron and Roxi together. However, since Wu Zi Xu and Zheng He did not really have the same history as she did, they were quite curious as to what this could mean. Wu Zi Xu and Zheng He had only seen Baron once and that was just in the meeting before their naval battle. However, Roxi was a complete mystery to them.
(WZX) “Young man, I recall your name is Baron, correct? Are you responsible for Sun Bin’s choice in canceling the aerial tournament?” Wu Zi Xu asked Baron who then turned to make eye contact.
(BM) “Senior Wu, that is not my honor to have. The achievement goes to my friend Jaxon Long. To my understanding, he is the best aerial strategist in our community and likely many others for that matter.” Baron responded in a respectful manner.
(MZ) “I have not personally seen Jaxon’s prowess in this field, however, I have reports from Lu Mu of the Femme Fatale faction that backs up Baron’s claims.” Madam Zheng added to cast a more favorable light upon herself and Baron.
(WZX) “Oh? I have had a report about this Jaxon fellow, however, it did not paint him as some peerless genius. I don’t doubt you two, but I would think that such an individual would have been discovered much sooner.”
(BM) “Oh, I believe there are quite a few gems out there that are worth fighting for but have yet to reveal themselves. If those people so chose to, it would not be hard to lay low and conceal themselves among the masses for a couple of decades.”
(WZX) “You’re not wrong.” Wu Zi Xu while nodding his head in agreement. “Say, where is your friend now? Is he with Sun Bin?”
(BM) “That he is, they have just recently finished their training simulation to test each other out. Afterward, Sun Bin had a few messengers go inform you and a few others about this development. Then, he shut himself in his private room to hash out a few details with Jaxon. After your battle with Zheng He and Madam Zheng, my companion Roxi here led me to this room to wait for Jaxon.”
(WZX) “Haha, I see. Well, I have some time, let’s wait and see. If my guess is correct, then I believe quite a few other big names will be present upon hearing such good news. Come let’s talk a bit more. You are quite the interesting fellow that has caught my attention ever since I heard about you.”

(MZ) “Wu Zi Xu, I have other matters I have to attend to. The three of us can work out the details later about the Death Match Tournament.” Madam Zheng said as she prepared to withdraw. She knew that as powerful as she was, she did not really have a place to watch this spectacle unfold. After all, Jaxon was not her ally, and she did not really have a mind for aerial combat.
(ZH) “Then I believe I should leave as well. There are many small points in our battle that I have noticed that my team and I could have performed better in. Farewell.” Zheng he said this, but it was quite evident that he didn’t really want to leave. After all, he was quite interested in what was to come of this situation.
However, this being the case, he didn’t have much of a place in this situation. In fact, he had even less of a place since Madam Zheng willingly withdrew herself before she overstayed her welcome. He did not like how close Baron seemed to hit it off with Wu Zi Xu, but as he was now, there was nothing he could do. Therefore, the best course of action was to leave along with Madam Zheng.
As the two turned to leave, Wu Zi Xu and Baron bid them farewell. Then, they turned to each other and gave introductions of themselves as well as Roxi. In time, a few others came to the spacious room that was just about as grand as Wu Zi Xu’s room. These people were among the top brass in the Sun Alliance.
It would take another two hours before Sun Bin and Jaxon Long emerged from their rooms as they had heard the commotion outside. Once they stepped out, Sun Bin could be seen with a huge smile on his face, something that he was not known to do often. As for Jaxon, he had quite a nonchalant attitude about it all.
(SB) “Everyone, let me just state the facts before you all start asking questions. Yes, I do plan on canceling the aerial tournament. This is because of this fellow beside me. Jaxon Long. He is comparable to even some of those American Generals that we have witnessed on our journey.” Sun Bin said hurriedly as if his heart was still in shock.
(WZX) “So, I imagine this news has yet to reach the public. What excuse do you plan on using to conceal this hidden talent?”
(SB) “Very perceptive Wu Zi Xu. Indeed, we need to conceal Jaxon so that we have an ace in the hole once the actual Death Match tournament commences. I believe the best course of action for this is to not have him be in the spotlight at all until the tournament time comes around.”

(JL) “I agree, in addition, I still am under contract from the Femme Fatale faction to help them research and develop something top secret. It is a little out of my field of expertise, but I’m sure I can figure it out eventually. This should take me at least another few decades if not another century.” Jaxon addressed the room.
(SB) “And don’t worry Wu Zi Xu, I’ll think of something. This is a simple matter. The entire reason for that tournament was to recruit a few hidden talents if there were any, but Jaxon Long here is more than worth it. I daresay he is at the peak of Aerial prowess from what I have seen.”
Gasps and visible surprise filled the room. Many of these old-timers were quite aware of just who was worthy of respect in the community, and now there was one youngster that was receiving praise from a big name such as Sun Bin. They all made a mental note to try and contact Jaxon later and get on good graces with him.
(JL) “Well, this has been a nice break from work, but as with all things, it must come to an end. I bid you all goodbye. Baron, Roxi let’s go. I’m sure you two have questions.” Jaxon said as he headed for the door with a jaunty spring in his legs.
(SB) “Ah, wait. When do you want to finalize everything?” Sun Bin asked just as Jaxon was about to leave the room.
(JL) “We’ve got over a century right? No rush.”
Following this, Baron and Roxi also made for their departure after waving everyone adieu. As the three young talents walked out of the room, everyone was a bit confused as to why Sun bin allowed him to act like a little brat in front of so many superiors. However, only Wu Zi Xu had the guts to ask this question.
(WZX) “Your judgment has never worried me but is it alright for such a youngling to behave in such an undignified manner?”
A lot of people still present in the room were also wondering about this and eager to hear Sun Bin’s response.
(SB) “Make no mistake, if he were not as powerful as he was, I wouldn’t even show Li Guang this kind of respect. However, I meant every word I said to you all. Aerial battles are going to be the future of combat, and Jaxon Long will be at the center of it. Leading the Chinese community forward when we have seen a slump for the past little while.”
“You praise him so, but that does not excuse his ignoble attitude.” A random voice called out.
(SB) “To secure a talent such as him under our banner is a must while he is still unknown to the other factions. In fact, I would antagonize the entire Yellow Wang coalition in order to secure Jaxon. This is just how influential he will be. I can tolerate his attitude, but if we do not seize this chance, it would be a damn shame.”
“But how about your battle with him? You have yet to tell us how it went.”
(SB) “Let’s just say that I may not be the best aerial strategist, but my knowledge about the field is near unparalleled. However, he managed to outmaneuver me almost every single turn, outsmart me constantly, and gave me no chance for any counterattack.”
(WZX) “How far do you think he is able to go? I mean in terms of potential.”
(SB) “Very far indeed. Although he has not been on planet 4 for more than a couple of decades, he has put everyone else to shame. Honestly, the best-case scenario is that we might finally have a chance to put up some resistance against the Jordsand community.”
“He is that powerful? Or perhaps are you a bit too optimistic? The Jordsand community has won the Death Match tournament every single time since as long as anyone can remember, and by a large margin as well.”
(WZX) “That is true, however, I trust Sun Bin’s judgment. And even though our leader Sun Tzu isn’t present, I believe that he would approve of this as well.”
(SB) “Is he still working on the mock intercommunity tournament?”
(WZX) “I believe so, this has never been done before so there is much to do. Even Sun Wu and Li Guang are helping him day in and day out. Now that both of our tournament matters are attended to, we will likely have to share in their pain.”
(SB) “Hah! Alright, everyone sorry for keeping you so long from your own duties. Wu Zi Xu, come with me to report our results to our glorious leader.”
(WZX) “Alright, we’ve had our fun for now. It is about time that we put in some work to better our community and its citizens.”

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
