《Warfare's Ultimate Frontier》Chapter 291 Disaster

By the time that Baron and Zheng Zhi Long arrived in the already engaged conflict, the fighting was fierce. However, there was one strange phenomenon in this crazy battle. And that was the crazy consistency in which the shots of both sides were managing to hit each other. This was akin to having a strategist of Madam Zheng’s insane aiming skills, or very nearly, on both sides, truly, a sight unlike any other.
The two of them entered into the battlefield along with their men and another round of intense clashes rang out. After another hour of such grievous losses on both sides, the Sun Alliance actually chose to withdraw. They knew that they held no advantage now that another group had come in and messed up the balance that was present in the previous clashes. But, they would not be able to escape with Baron and his squad in the skies reporting every small detail.
The chase was on, it was a near miracle that they had managed to escape the encirclement by Zheng Zhi Long and the reinforcements in the first place. No matter how powerful they were before, they were much less effective at dealing blows to the Forever Pirates now that they were on the run. It was a given that the naval fleet from the Sun Alliance would have offensive power, defensive power, speed, and many other bases covered, however, their advantages were but moot in front of the enemies that were hunting them down now.
Even though Zheng Zhi Long and his fleet could be considered to be one of the fastest within the Forever Pirates, they were not able to catch up to the Sun Alliance fleet for some reason. This continued to be the case until Baron decided to act and send his aces up into the sky once more to better track their enemy. As they had been given orders to take a rest while the chase was on.

A few hours later, the Sun Alliance fleet actually split up into not two, but three smaller fleets. Each one splitting up from one another. The bulk of them was concentrated in the group that continued on straight ahead.
In response to this, Baron also split up his squad into 3. One group would go with Zheng Zhi Long, and the other two would go with the split up reinforcement fleet. For another few hours, the chase was on, somehow, it seemed that the enemy could still maintain the communication dead zone while being on the move. A most mysterious occurrence. Baron was personally leading the chase on the fleet that deviated to the left. Similarly, Zheng Zhi Long was tasked with going after the fleet that strayed to the right.
Baron was given control of the entire fleet by the commander of the entire reinforcement fleet, elder Hu. Another person that had been with the Forever Pirates for quite a while. Though he may have a high position, he was only marginally better than even Zheng Zhi Long in many instances of naval warfare.
On and on the chase continued for Baron and the group in front of him. With the passage of time, Baron felt something amiss with the current situation. The fleet at his command had been purposely put at a disadvantage to entice the Sun Alliance members to launch a counter-attack. However, this did not happen.
Eventually, Baron stopped the fleet dead on its tracks after giving chase for the better part of the day. No matter how much the enemy seemed to be retreating, Baron decided that there were just too many unknowns to the current situations. Additionally, the fleet that they were giving chase to seemed to land them almost in Sun Alliance territory.
It was no longer in his best interests to continue this charade when clearly they might be falling into a trap. Slowly but surely, Baron and his fleet moved back towards where they estimated that there was a huge possibility of Elder Hu’s fleet being at given what they had experienced and the time that had elapsed. It took a day or two, but they managed to do it in the end. However, the sight that they were met with was an absolute horrorshow.

Somehow, elder Hu and his fleet had fallen into a whirlpool that encompassed the vast majority of their fleet. Ships of all sized were being dragged in. What was the most surprising was that the enemy ships were nowhere to be seen. They should have only been slightly ahead of Elder Hu’s fleet, how had they managed to evade such a natural disaster?
As much as Baron wanted to help, there was no way to do so. He didn’t have the resources at his disposal to make any type of impact at this moment. All he could do was watch as thousands of ships, and hundreds of thousands of his allies went to their deaths. Baron had seen much death up until this point, but never had he been so helpless as he was now.
Then, something terrible crept up to his mind, could it be possible that Zheng Zhi Long was in this position as well? It was unlikely that they were in exactly the same situation, but the possibility was non-zero. Through the many fights that he and Zheng Zhi Long had been in, the two developed quite a bond with each other. Perhaps not as close as brothers just yet, but getting there. There were a few helicopters in his squad that were to be used in rescue operations just like this.
After getting a few of these helicopters their orders to retrieve important personnel, Baron led the rest of his squad and fleet to try and find Zheng Zhi Long’s whereabouts. There wasn’t much more he could do to at this juncture anyway. It took another day or two to find any clues but by the time that they had made it there, the entirety of his brother’s fleet had been in the end processed of falling to another whirlpool.
ONCE! If it was a whirlpool once, then Baron could chalk it up to luck, but twice? No way. Somehow, the enemy must be causing these whirlpools to their advantage. Baron was completely sure of this. Unfortunately, now that he was the only fleet that wasn’t crippled or done for, there wasn’t a good chance for him to stay his ground if the enemies decided to come after him at this moment.
So for now, Baron could only go back to elder Hu’s fleet and salvage what he could. Although, at this point in time, most of it had already been done by the people that he left in charge while he was searching for Zheng Zhi Long. This was a disaster!
