《Warfare's Ultimate Frontier》Chapter 248 Skill of an Aerial Strategist

The NA F-86D Sabre might not be as advanced as some of the other planes that were waiting to be called upon, but it did have one advantage, it was so much better at night. What was special was that Jaxon Long was able to outfit this with a few more features that were not in the original blueprint. That was just how well Jaxon understood each and every component of these planes that most would be puzzled about. Not to mention, Jaxon was able to achieve this sort of upgrade on many of the others as well, so his gifts were really appreciated by Baron, Guan Yu, and Yue Fei.
Yue Fei would take what remained of his squad and have them take a well-deserved rest. Guan Yu would take over and try to take out as many enemies as he could with the 100 Sabres that he had under him. At first, it was difficult to take down even one, but as the pilots gained more experience, they were able to get more accurate with their shots. It really helped that the enemy wasn’t able to get an accurate shot of them. Their opponents were gathered up quite close to each other so each missile that was shot from one of the Sabres was able to deal some damage to multiple units. Guan Yu did not have much experience with these types of planes, but he was willing to try it for a little while longer before he retired for the night or the enemy did the correct thing and retreated.
----------
On Baron and Lu Mu’s side, they were only able to meet their foes in a stalemate up until the end of the day. However, the enemy did not budge from their position as the two had hoped and so the only thing they could do was stay put along with their enemies in order to keep them in check. Baron truly did not want a repeat of what had happened with the previous squad and have them sneak off to Guan Yu and Yue Fei. Neither Baron nor coalition was confident in a night raid as there were too many unknowns about each other so both sides just stared each other down until the light of day where they would be able to once again do battle.

Though no action was taking place on the battlefield, Baron and Lu Mu were both running around and giving orders as well as thinking of plans to fend off the attackers for the next day. Considering they were outnumbered so many times, it was a definite testament of the skill that Baron and Lu Mu had to be able to fend off such an imposing army. Advanced technology or not. Going by what Baron could tell, the coalition army that they were facing off with had a number of skilled strategists in their ranks. Perhaps at his skill level or even higher.
Before the light broke, the coalition army sent out a number of pilots to get a jump on the battle and Baron. However, even if such an untimely offensive was upon him, Baron would not be so slow as to actually give his enemies time to deal with any major setbacks to him. The very first thing that Baron did was to launch a few of his fastest planes to intercept the enemy as he saw that Lu Mu’s forces were nowhere near ready for combat. Second, Baron had the bulk of his army set off together to engage with the enemy. Upon seeing this, the coalition’s forces immediately retreated as they would not be able to win as evidenced by the previous days’ stalemate.
Baron’s forces did not allow them time to escape as the first wave increased their barrage of missiles and gunfire. This may have only been a temporary setback for the enemy, but it was enough time for Baron’s second wave to come in and engage as well. In the distance, another group of enemy fighters was fast approaching to try and get their allies out of an unfavorable situation. However, it was no use, as soon as they arrived, their allies were so routed and in such dire straits that there was almost nothing to salvage.

The coalition’s second group continued with their attack nonetheless. They had numbers on their sides, and they knew that they would only need to hold on for a few more minutes for the next group, an even bigger one to come and help them. No matter how overpowered Baron’s pilots were, they would not be able to end a battle of this scale in just a few minutes. That being said, with Lu Mu’s forces there as well, it would be a matter of time before they were defeated.
Pure aerial warfare differed from land and sea quite a bit as in the air, a strategist would not be that much more useful than another pilot. A fighter strategist would not be able to jump from plane to plane as he could in the sea like a pirate. This technique was used by Madam Zheng’s Forever Pirates quite a bit, but it was by no means practical in the air where planes would be able to move at super-fast speeds.
That meant the prowess of a strategist in this medium of warfare depended more on how useful and powerful their blueprints were, rather than just how to maneuver an army and those kinds of tactics. Essentially, this meant that Baron and the rest of the Under 1 Banner group really lucked out in having Jaxon Long in their ranks. Not only was he well versed with a lot of planes produced in the two world wars, but also many that came after it. Not to mention that he had even designed a few himself that he claimed to be some of the best Earth had to offer when he was alive. Though he had not revealed it to the Baron, Baron believed that Jaxon would not be lying.
