《Warfare's Ultimate Frontier》Chapter 172 Unexpected End

The fateful fourteenth day was one to remember, it was the day that the siege of Baron’s base was finally lifted, but not by the conventional means. This day started out like any other, the two sides going at each other like no tomorrow. However, it was more than clear that if the alliance would not be able to break through today, they would not be able to break through at all. This was due to the fact that the alliance had used much of its resources to fight these past two weeks, but they did not have the resources to keep attacking forever. Moreover, their soldiers were losing morale, it would become even more difficult as time dragged on and the morale dropped even further.
By midday, nearly all of the alliance members were attacking the walls with everything that they had. Soldiers, tanks, missiles, bombs, airplanes, everything. They had abandoned all hope of ever breaching the North wall due to that insane defense and ended up having the crippled forces fold into the other three armies to continue attacking. Most of the fighter strategists were moved to Zhang Da Zhi’s southern army which would lead that army to become many times stronger.
In response to this all-out offensive maneuver, the majority of the soldiers on the North wall were moved to the others while Roxi, Meng Wu, and the two others stayed with under 1,000 soldiers just in case the enemy wanted to try anything funny. All of the rest of Meng Wu’s men were sent to where the fighting was fiercest, the Southern wall defended by Baron. The battle continued on for a few hours after that with both sides suffering horrendous casualties. It seemed like both sides were now down to their last resources. Both sides were equally devastated from the war, the only difference was that the alliance had a few more reinforcements just in case they were needed.

Just as the day was ending, and it seemed that the victory would go to the alliance, someone truly unexpected came out of the shadows and brought the entire battlefield to a standstill. It was the face of the Sun Alliance, Li Guang. Not only that, he showed up with a force that would obliterate anything that they could think of to throw at him. He was recognized immediately by Zhang Da Zhi as the two were closest. With one sentence from Li Guang, the entire battlefield was ordered to drop their weapons and that the leaders of both sides talk it out with each other with Li Guang as the intermediary. Very few would be able to refuse something like this from someone as influential as him. Not to mention, he had a huge army with him, all primed and ready for war. Both sides agreed.
Baron, Yue Fei, and Guan Yu would be meeting with Zhang Da Zhi, Ding Lai Hang, and Qi Ji Guang. With someone like Li Guang right there, no one would dare to be disrespectful. To disrespect him would be to disrespect the entire Sun Alliance, and nobody in the Chinese community could afford something like that at the moment. Both sides met up outside with Li Guang inviting them all into his personal vehicle that was more of a modern-day carriage more than anything.
(BM) “Elder Li Guang, what brings you here?” Baron asked politely.
(LG) “You are all smart individuals, I’m sure you can figure out my reason.” Li Guang said nonchalantly.
(ZDZ) “You wish for us to stop fighting each other?” Zhang Da Zhi responded a bit unsure.
(LG) “Precisely, do any of you realize the importance of this tournament? It is to inspire new and old strategist that whatever they think they know about warfare, that there is always something out there that will surprise them. This is meant to be a community service, and if both of you are to perish in the first few months, that would truly be a shame.”

(DLH) “Wait, how are both of us going to be-” Ding Lai Hang started before Qi Ji Guang stopped him.
(QJG) “Elder, what you speak of is correct, if we continue what we are doing, the winner would be so crippled that anyone would be able to come in and tear us apart. Very insightful.” Qi Ji Guang complimented Li Guang.
(LG) “Indeed, you two are both hidden gems, and while neither of you are actual factions yet, people actually look up to you more because of it. I would not do this for anyone else, but please, break each others’ necks at a later date, please?”
(BM) “I believe that only Zhang Da Zhi will be able to answer that question. He is the one that wanted to wipe us off the map in the first place. We had no prior beef with each other.”
(ZDZ) “Well, I suppose, if we get something out of it.”
(LG) “What did you have in mind?”
(ZDZ) “Nothing for now, but how about we get an extra blueprint from your treasury?”
(LG) “Deal, what about you then?”
(GY) “How about that communications dampener that I have seen quite a few high-level strategists?” Guan Yu piped up as he suddenly remembered the neat little device that they had the Yellow Wang faction leaders use just after the aerial tournament.
(LG) “Oh, that? You can have that right now, here. It’s pretty simple so you can probably remember it off the top of your head and copy it after you get out.” He said as he handed Guan Yu a blueprint.
(BM) “Well if that is everything, then Zhang Da Zhi, kindly get off my lawn.”
(ZDZ) “Tch, you would have been done for if it wasn’t for elder Li Guang. Count your blessings, the next time you won’t be so lucky.”
With that, the alliance left Baron’s base alone, Li Guang left for who knows where, and Baron’s team was discussing the whole thing after just having escaped near-certain defeat just a few hours ago.

Musings of a Hypocrite
Mortals are weird. They insisted in unity, as well as individualism. More often than not, they're shocked at truth and honesty, but not at falsehood and deceit. They asked questions with multiple answers, and provided answers that begged other questions. They made things to break, they destroyed things to study, they researched things to recreate. Humans, Elves, Beastmen. All of them. Within these contradictions, a miracle might manifest. But this tended to work with a trial and error methodology. Most mortals never got the happy ending. This diary is my journey alongside a few students of mine. In simple terms - they learn, they grow, they fight. They'll journey through centuries of conflict, from the physical to the educational. They'll experience the cruelty and benelovence of all living-kind. They'll experience the consequences of their choices and the blessings of their rewards. They will grow to become useful to me, or die trying like all the others. As for you? The god reading our lives like a book, sitting in your chair without a care in the world? I will show you, the farce that is known as 'God'.

Mobius
Far in the future, humans have thoroughly colonized space through the use of floating colonies and artificially replicating the Earth whenever possible. Most of these endeavors have gone well, with humanity spreading across the universe like the seeds of plants floating in the wind. Yet still there lurks the great mistake, the endless station of Mobius, a megastructure which hasn't ceased its building in over a century. Dante, a man living in this megastructure, is tasked with the recording of stories told by criminals, particularly those who travel between strata. One day, a prisoner is captured claiming to be Captain Pluto, an infamous criminal thought to be fictitious by most scholars. Even more curious, he claims to hail all the way from Stratum 56, a location so far away from Dante's Stratum 999 that it would take lifetimes to traverse such a distance. Dante must discern whether or not the story is false or true, and the longer he lets Captain Pluto speak, the more difficult his task becomes. *****Average chapter length will be 10k words give or take. This isn't a very serious story for me. I'm writing this to blow off steam. Updates will happen infrequently because of this, and it will most likely be unpolished unless I begin to take it more seriously.
