《Incoming Chaos on the Immortal World》Chapter 4 - Ghost vs Ghost! Ready... Fight!

Tethra vision came back as soon as he arrived in front of a city. The city had huge walls surrounding it, like the great wall of china. The one that got crushed by the great flood of earth and now reached a state of no return. People really had no will to rebuild that massive wall that had no function in peace society other than for tourism places. So by now, the stone used for the great wall, was used for other things.
Other than the huge wall, there was some kind of thin film protecting the city like a dome. It seemed like a fragile yet powerful dome. Rather, to Tethra, this thin dome looked more powerful than the wall.
“Don’t go underestimating the wall. It is layered with even more protection rune, you just can’t see it with naked eyes because it has been hid. This dome is just the weakest protection layer of this city, like an alarm if there is an invasion of monsters” Lan Bao informed Tethra about the wall because most people always downgraded it in their eyes.
Tethra now had a whole new respect for the one who created this city, or at least the defensive mechanism. They really thought it so well. By making the enemy underestimate them, they could surprise the enemy ranks after they failed to destroy the wall. This is a really normal tactic in war. All is fair in a war, because the winner is the king and the loser is the thief.
They passed the film easily, but before Tethra entered, Elder Pan stopped him, used his identification card to do something, some kind of force surrounded Tethra. After Elder Pan signaled Tethra to go in, he passed the thin film, and when he came inside, the force that surrounded him got absorbed by the thin film.
“When people without identification card entered this city, they must either pay 1 silver to the guard so they can bring them in or ask someone with an exclusive card to bring them in, like me” Elder Pan explained to Tethra kindly. They passed the guard easily because the guard seemed to worship Elder Pan for a reason Tethra didn’t know.

“It’s Elder Pan, he just brought a mortal in after bringing him with his teleportation spell. He really is kind!”
“Yeah, he really is the kindest Elder ever existed. There has been too many people that he helped, if every people he helped entered this city, maybe it will be filled to the brim”
“Of course, Elder Pan is just that kind!”
The guards whispered something behind their backs, but they are already walked far away so they didn’t hear the talk. Along the way, while Elder Pan got kind smile and a nod every time he passed a pedestrian, Tethra curiously looked at the surrounding. The buildings didn’t have the feeling of sci-fi because they are just like normal buildings in earth before the great flood. Rather, the protective film of every building interested him because it was very sci-fi like. One time, he saw a mad looking thug had been rebounded by the protective film after trying to enter a restaurant with hostility.
“It is a Goodwill Dome. It can differentiate between goodwill and badwill, if someone came inside with bad intentions to the shop, the protective film will rebound them” Ke Long, in a rare case of talking, explained to him about the tecnology. It seemed like Ke Long’s hobby is in the category of technology because he was looking at the protective film with a little shining eyes.
While walking he also noticed the method mortals used to transport here. They used hovering buses that stopped at a certain point once in a while and some people also used hoverboards. The sight of hovering-vehicles were often felt by Tethra because the post-flood earth was also like this, but the road that they used seemed to be a bit different than earth’s.
The sidewalk he was walking was made from asphalt the same as earth’s road, but seeing not even the smallest crack on it, he concluded that it had been upgraded by the technology here too. The main road was kind of beautiful, the line on the side gave off bluish light and some certain points had magnetic feeling from them. Earth’s main road hadn’t reached these level of technology yet. But, Tethra was very familiar with this feeling because he was always inside of Friche’s lab, the feeling of Electromagnetic, just with a bit of natural feeling.

“Is that road made to speed up the hoverboards and hoverbuses?” Tethra asked while pointing to a certain point of the road.
“Yeah, that is powered by qi heart under this city that was found long time ago. The qi heart is very self-sufficient, it power up most machine on this city but it can also absorb the residue from the machine and change it again to qi to power it” Ke Long had heartfelt admiration towards the system that maintained the qi heart.
“Then is that line used to slow the hover-vehicles?” Tethra pointed to a thin line that stretched across the road.
“Yes, that line is called the Delaying Line, it is usually placed at the place where most people want to cross the road. While the speed spot is called Urgent Step, it is used by people who either liked fast travel or have some urgent business” Ke Long patiently explained the technology to Tethra. If not because he liked science, why else would people explain a caveman-like existence such as Tethra?
Now that he looked at the surrounding quite completely, it really felt like sci-fi fantasy world rather than xianxia world. The businessman and businesswoman pedestrians, the various advanced technology to support life, and the ever peaceful road didn’t really like xianxia world at all! At least there should be-
“You bastard! I will kill you!”
-fight sometimes, or that was what he wanted to say, until a person passed him, literally. Yeah, they had ethereal figure and was fighting fiercely. Some people watched with interest while some people continued doing their things, just like seeing something normal. The one that just passed Tethra’s body was the one cursed the other figure. He was thrown to the road until the road cracked, but it restored as soon as it cracked.
“What? Ghost figthing ghost? They should just go to heaven already!” Tethra unconcernedly telling people to go die.
“Ghost? Hahahahaha, this is the first time i heard a person called virtual battle, ghost fighting ghost, ahahahahaha!” Lin Xiang, the most outspoken one, teased Tethra while laughing to tears.
“Just ignore him, we know you are a caveman, so i will explain this too to you” Ke Long said rightfully. “Hey, you’re even worse than Lin Xiang!” Tethra complained, but got ignored by Ke Long.
“That was virtual battle system made by someone who didn’t like the fact that practitioners fights in the city are harming mortals. They can’t restrict battle too because practitioners need those. So, they made a system where, just by injecting their qi into their identification card and saying ‘virtual’, they can leave their real bodies hibernating to use their ethereal body to fight freely, the feeling is the same like fighting in the real world, just they can’t harm anybody other than their enemy this way.”
“The protective dome acted like an arena, while qi heart acted as the engine. Almost every cities here have this system now. Wooh i’m so excited to battle like this again!”
“You only know how to battle, battle, and battle again. That’s why you are muscle-headed!”
“Shut it technology maniac! You still never won from me!”
“Wanna fight? Let’s just fight! Virtual!”
“Fine! Virtual!”
Both of them went back to their own world again while Tethra still had that dumb look on his face because of the spectacular technology. Lin Bao, the only one left with Tethra and Elder Pan, felt awkward after catching their real bodies because their companions left just like that.
“Uhh, sorry Elder Pan, they are always like that” Lin Bao apologized on their behalf.
“No problem! Young’uns these days are really hot-blooded! Ho ho ho” Elder Pan laughed amicably while looking at the fighting Lin Xiang and Ke Long.
A few minutes later, Tethra finally came to his mind. This world really combined sci-fi and xianxia perfectly! Even he didn’t expect this outcome. Now he really looked forward to exploring this world!
“Wait, so who will protect your real bodies?! You bastards come back here and take care of it first before fighting!!!”

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Wisdom And Wolf
When I was twenty one I bought my first motorcycle. My only motorcycle. A Harley Davidson XLX, Sportster. Her name is Rohdindae, it comes from the Silmarillion and loosely translates to Horse of the Silent Shadows. This two wheeled mare, of iron and steel, was my sole means of transportation for almost 5 years. Rain, sleet, snow, or hundred degree heat, it didn't matter, I was in the saddle. We went all over this side of the Mississippi together. To places long forgotten by progress or filled to their capacity with humanity. Interesting word humanity, it means all off human kind in one definition, generosity and compassion in another. How often these two definitions are at bitter odds with the other, is something to be seen. These words are a mash up. Tales of the road. The people I met, stories I listened to, and the loves I saw grow, all find themselves here, mixed within these pages. From Maine to Mobile and all the places in between, where people still, somehow, cling on to the good fight. The only fight worth fighting.

Second Wind, legend of Pandemonium (Finished/Incomplete)
The developers of the worlds leading VRMMORPG Edge Online have decided to shut down its servers after over a decade. Shugireth Darkstar, the leader of Pandemonium, Edge Online's top guild, suffers from a deadly disease and his end is near. He hasn't left his VR pod for 5 years, as the medical nanodroids at the hospital takes care of him. Without Edge, he will die, because his physical body has already been all but destroyed by the sickness. Seeing no light at the end of the tunnel, Shugireth Darkstar, the Master of Pandemonium, stubbornly stays behind as the servers shut down... If that was all, we could end this story right here. However, that was only the beginning of the legend of pandemonium. The prelude to the movement, if you will. Shall we see what happens next? -------------- Some notes from Me (The author, gasp surprise): I first wrote this (100k) as an experiment. I saw the advice about having foils for overpowered MCs, and I watched quite a few lectures on writing. I wanted to test things out for myself and see if I could carry a story through other ways than only relying on physical conflict like some thrillers do. Thus this might lean a bit towards slice of life with a romance subplot, but I don't want to give my story away so read it if u want to know more. This was basically never intended for anyone else's eyes but my own, and written to explore writing as a process. This wasn't my attempt at writing a good book, but it turned into something that I think might interest some people, so I decided to pop it up here. It is slightly old so my style and writing skills have advanced considerably since I first started this thing. Having said that, I think it's pretty readable, but I am very interested in how other people will receive this. Please feel free to criticize it and just in general shoot me some feedback on what you think. It contains light Litrpg elements, not heavy table spam, it's just the basis of the world. Although I like that sort of thing, this was written before I even knew of Royalroad and hadn't considered litrpg much. Some of you may recognize that it was slightly inspired by Overlord. Also, the Tags for sexual content and traumatizing content are there as a precaution on all of my stories pretty much, even if my story does not contain any of that at the moment. I can't really know what the future will bring, but in the case of this story I do know a little bit, since I wrote 100k words before posting it here. And I just posted it on a whim because I figured some readers on Royalroad might enjoy this story.
