《Dragons Dogma: Chaos & Order》Chapter 4: Chaos Savior

He waited until dark and slowly stalked along the rocky mountain, so he was poised directly over the cave mouth. Inside, Radais could hear the sounds of men celebrating their captures, drinking, and gambling with money they claimed would soon be paid. Two guards still stood at the entrance, drinking until they laughed raucously at the men in the back and hardly paid attention.

Big mistake.

Radais slowly, silently peeked over the edge of the rock face and looked down on the two men. Then, finally, one muttered to the other, "Hey, watch it, ok? I've gotta piss."

The other guard guffawed, saying he hadn't had enough to drink yet, but let his comrade go. Radais's head struck down faster than a snake and grabbed the remaining guard when the other man was out of sight in the woods. He snapped the man's neck quickly, then threw him in the opposite direction his comrade had gone. The cracking of branches was not heard over the celebration.

When the other guard returned, he scratched his head and muttered, "That lazy ass went inside without-"

Radais grabbed him mid-sentence and also assassinated him, then hurled the man after his comrade.

"No notification? Must be weak" Radais was not impressed with humans now. Time to let him know about the food chain. But first...

Radais opened his maw and roared.

"RAAAHHHH!"

The celebration fell silent; then, men started shouting inside the cave.

"There's a dragon outside!"

"Fortune's smiling down on us, boys! We'll score another catch before we head home!"

"YEAH!"

"That's right." Radais thought with satisfaction. "Come out mellow and guns blazing. We'll see who scores what."

The men charged out with a massed bellow, running down the path away from the cave and into the forest, searching with torches for the source of the dragon's roar.

"And while you're busy with that…."

Radais slunk down and slipped into the cave without so much as a sound, going by entirely unnoticed.

He quickly padded to the back of the cave and took in the scene. There are more hatchlings than Radais thought. Instead, two female hatchlings, ranging from one year to three years in age, were confined in a small cage together, bound and muzzled. One was the light blue he'd seen before, and the other was a pale green.

A larger cage held a big hatchling like him, maybe bigger than him, and incredibly, its entire body was incredibly made of dark, almost black steel.

A metallic dragon?

The captive dragons saw him and stared with surprise.

Radais quickly said, "I'm getting you out of here, so be quiet. We'll give them a nasty surprise on the way out."

He freed the male hatchling first. Radais stabbed his claw into the lock and pulled back, opening the cage door. He then cut the chains that kept the metallic hatchling immobilized and left the muzzle to the other dragon's sharp claws.

The other male hatchling spat and snarled, "That damn thing! Why I'm gonna rip those bastards to pieces when I see them again!"

"I like your style... I'm Radais, son of the rules of this land." Wanna help bust of the females?"

"I will stand watch." The metallic hatchling growled. "Free the females."

So the Iron hatchling watched for humans around the corner of the cave if any decision to come back early while Radais freed the young dragoness.

He tore the cage door off and carefully broke the ropes, keeping them bound. The Iron hatchling hissed. "They're coming back."

"Oh, this is going to be fun" Radais smiled with bloodlust. "Iron hatchling, let's remind them of the food chain. You two make sure you stay behind us. While two, you can kill them just fine. I just want to be the one to kill them."

"Name is Zeinnairth future Lord Of The Black. My mother dropped off here to train with some male hatchling."

"Well, Zeinnarith, let's give them hell." Radais hissed.

"Damn right." the Iron hatchling growled, "I'll teach them to drug my food and tie me up like they own me!"

They heard footsteps getting closer and fell silent. Angry voices were muttering amongst each other.

"Stupid idiots, there's no dragon out there!"

"Hey, you said it was a dragon!"

"Oh, who cares! We've got three inside, anyway. Maybe it was one of them."

They turned the corner and came face to face with the two furious-looking dragon hatchlings. The men paused for a second, not comprehending the sight.

Radais grinned, " Well? That's half right." The chaos opened his wings with the blood eyes blinking at the men.

Now the men's faces went white.

Radais and Zeinnairth roared bloodlust and lunged, ripping men apart before the others even registered that the dragons in their cave were free and very, very angry.

One man, apparently the leader, yelled from the back, "Spear them! Get the nets and cover their jaws! We've got two drakes, so hustle up!"

"You're not gonna put me back in a cage, you shitty human!" Zeinnairth roared, then dropped to all fours with a snarl. His tail shot forward like a scorpion's and stabbed the leader with a sharp point, piercing the man all the way through.

The leader shrieked for a second before Zeinnairth hurled him aside, cracked him against the cave wall, and dropped the man from his tail with no life in his eyes.

Radais grabbed a man in his jaws and threw him away, spitting out blood with a snarl, "There's a lot of these bastards, aren't there?! Are we in trouble?"

"All the more fun for us!" Zeinnairth cackled as he slashed his front claw sideways and rendered a man into three pieces, "HAHAHA and fuck no, we are not in trouble. So why are you giving them hope?"

"I want a good fight," Radais whined as he cut another human in half.

Snapping at a human that is running towards him. Radais knew what he was planning.

"Stop," Radais spoke. He fully opened his wings, the eyes glowing a bright red.

Everyone was suspended at the simple word, but the weight of it was massive.

"Everyone but the human that is cowering in the rocks, kill yourself right now."

In horror, the humans slit their throats, unable to resist the commands from the chaos hatchling.

"I guess I have to finish the fight to get the energy."

"Um..."

The pale blue hatchling walked up and nervously prodded Radais's leg. He glanced down at the little dragon, whose soft voice was very soothing, "Th-thank you for saving me…."

"Thanks for the help, too, big guy." The female green hatchling to Zeinnairth.

"No problem," Zeinnairth boasted.

"Human out now and don't keep me waiting," Radais said.

The manling crawled on his knees out the rocks quickly as he could.

"What is your name?"

"I, uh…" The human trembled at Radais razor-sharp smile and his striking features. “Vandal Savage, sir….”

"Radais Dragonoid, The monster in the forest, ruler of everyone and everything. He who stands before the races and has not better... except for his parents. I’m also the one who stands at the pinnacle of all races. But you may call me Your Majesty. Wait no! Your Lord, Knightsbane."

"Your lord knigh-"

“With a more feeling! Human!” Radais shouted at the human. "I can tell the difference."

Just for measure, he throws an acidic fire near a wall melting it.

“Your lord Knightsbane, I swear this is a mistake! I just these guys.”

Radais burped at the man.

"Your lord?"

"Pardon me. I feel sick when I’m looking at something weaker than me."

The Iron hatchling howled at the strong voice filled with arrogance from his new friend.

"I swear, I'm not lying or trying to trick you," he said. “We didn’t know this area was yours. Someone hired us to capture dragon hatchlings, and WE had to cut through here! It was very stupid of us. I swear I didn't want to do it!”

"Liar!" Radais roared, his voice echoing through the cave, "You dumb humans dare enslave dragons IN my parent's territory?! Enurto and Dusk? I must kill you now for being so stupid."

"Wait, wait!" The trainee human dragon hunter panicked. He has to think of something FAST! He can't die here! "I give the gold from town. 500,000 of it! I can lead you there."

"A nice sum for such a dirty deed,” Zeinnairth growled at him, vowing to get his claws on that gold. "Congratulations, human... My love of gold outweighs my hate for your race."

“Yes, But I only took this job to get money for an overpriced bastard of healer," Vandel admitted. "I thought I would gain a few job levels out of it. Maybe even get the rare job of Noir Dragon Knight. ”

"Job Levels? What was that, some kind of cattle food?" The green female hatchling asked, interested.

"Yeah, what is that?" The blue female hatchling asked as well.

Their dragons. They get over trivial stuff like kidnapping and almost enslavement really quickly.

That and Vandel was the only human that didn't enjoy trapping them.

"You, you guys don’t…." Vandel felt like this was going to be wrong. “How to explain… a person's abilities and skills are defined by their class (also known as a job). People start out as Novices, and then once they reach Job Level 10, they can choose between a variety of first job classes. Jobs provide benefits and compensation to allow humans to fight on equal terms with powerful foes. Every person is able to level up their job by simply investing time into it. If one has the aptitude, one can even rank it up into a better one."

"The human has gone crazy. I get levels but have never gotten these 'job levels' before. Ok, time to die."

“Please don't kill me,” Vandel pleaded for his miserable life.

That was stupid. Class? What kind of use of that was to him. He! Radais was a mighty dragon hatchling, son of the king of the swamps, son of the masters of masters! How can this exist?

Congratulations!

"What sorcery this?!" Radais said as words appeared right before his eyes.

"What the hell?!

"I see a blue screen!"

"I never seen this before?"

All three hatchlings shouted as the screen appeared in front of them.

Having read many, many books and having a noble rare dragon bloodline. You gained a level in the [Royal Chaos Reaper] class! A is a warrior/mage who learns how to manipulate the dark energies within them by studying the nature of demon parasites. As a result, their attack spells are even more deadly, and resistance to Shadow energy is substantially increased.

+12 VIT, +12 INT, +12 WIS, +12 STR, +12 Magic.

You can the [Dragon Royal] perk.

Radais blinked at the information in front of him.

"Dragon Royal?" he said out loud, much to everyone's confusion.

[Dragon Royal]: Doubles stats from level-ups.

"I need more information on this." Radais thought.

" Human Vandel," Radais said

“Yes, Your Lord Knightsbane?”

"You shall live for another day, and you will lead us straight to this ‘handout’ so I may claim that base as my own with the treasure inside. Since I am feeling generous right now, you will be my new minion until you pay back your life debt to me."

Vandel finally let himself breathe. "Thank you!! I am wholly unsuited for this role, Your Lord Knightsbane.”

"I am a dragon," Radais dropping his wisdom. "You are now my minion."

Radais turned to his new friends. "You guys have a problem with this?"

"Nah"

"Who cares."

"I don't really care, to be honest, Radais."

Vandel bowed to his new master gracefully, "It is a great honor, Your Lord Knightsbane."

"Very good. There is a great reward in doing as I wish. Namely, living."

"Your kindness is legendary, Your Lord Knightsbane."

“I know, human. I know. Now, tell me more about this Job system...”
