《Dragons Dogma: Chaos & Order》Chapter 1: Chaos Lessons

Radais spent his second day trying to walk. Even with four legs to carry his weight, the little dragon did not have it easy. The hunger made his body quickly towards the food source, but ultimately, he didn’t know to walk afterward.

Since he technically wasn’t supposed to hatch for another week, his musculature was underdeveloped. Unfortunately, that meant that he was having more luck sliding on the floor than actually walking around.

It was comical to watch, at least.

Dusk monitored him the whole time with amusement, as his father had flown off early in the morning to go hunting. She would try to help Radais keep his balance by allowing the hatchling to bite the tip of her tail, keeping him up just enough so he’d be able to stand on his own.

It’s wired for a black dragon to act this way. Black dragons were not mentioned as wonderful parents, relying more on disguising and hiding to protect their eggs than guarding them personally.

But Dusk is different.

Eventually, Radais snorted in frustration and whined unhappily, having given up on walking. But his stomach betrays him. He is hungry again. He wonders why he is so hungry after eating more than his body weight in food.

Dusk manifests a cone of energy on her son. “Because, little one, you are the hybrid of a Black Dragon and a Purple Dragon. Both species of their wyrmlings are acclaimed for their exceptional cruelty and their utterly insatiable appetites. They ate almost anything organic they could kill, even plants.”

His mother bewilders Radais. He does not know what she is saying.

“Now, little one, don’t give up. The dragon who stops a hunt halfway is the dragon who starves to death. Follow through to the end, Radais. You will find your strength. Our kind never gives up. Our pride won’t let it.”

While the hatchling was still too young to understand everything she said, he understood she was scolding him. Reluctantly, he struggled to his feet once more, looking up at his mother for some sort of approval.

At Dusk’s gentle smile and nod, Radais attempted to walk around again, grabbing onto her tail for support. She urged him on, giving helpful bits of information at frequent intervals.

“That’s it, Little one. Use your tail to balance- no, don’t chew on it.”

“Little one, you’re not a frog nor a rabbit. Two feet at a time, not all four.”

“Radais, whatever are you trying to do? Carnies chase their tails, not dragons.”

While Dusk attempted to correct him, she sensed that Radais, still blissfully unaware of the meaning of her words, rather enjoyed seeing her miffed about his antics. When she tilted her head at him, he mirrored her, staring up with an innocent look.

He was most definitely enjoying this.

Her tail tip twitched. “You’re playing me, aren’t you?”

Her son happily chewed on her tail.

“You cheeky little drake!” she laughed.

Perhaps Enurto was right about us being lucky with only one hatchling. Sunrose thought. Radais alone is going to be a handful at this rate. I shudder to imagine what we’d have to go through with two or even just one more little dragon.

It took hours longer, but eventually, Radais found his balance. Even underdeveloped, he pulled it off, much to Dusk’s joy. And in fact, just minutes before, Enurto returned with a deer in his claws.

While he was rather impressed that Radais had already learned how to walk independently, now came another vital lesson. Enurto dropped the deer in the center of the cave and tried to gauge his son’s reaction to it.

A black dragon’s diet comprised fish, mollusks, aquatic critters, and some red meat from terrestrial animals. Since Radais was half black dragon and purple dragon. Enurto was expanding his taste buds to other red meats. However, Enurto can’t be sure what element he would get. While Dusk was a pure purple dragon. His parents were a black dragon and a red dragon.

Good thing Radais bloodline is part of the Chromatic dragons. Distinguished typically by a solid, non-reflective coloring of their scales, hence the name.

Realizing this thing was food, the little dragon pounced on the deer and sank his teeth into it voraciously, tearing a chunk off and gulping it down in a flash.

Dusk put a stop to that quickly. “Don’t do that; you’ll choke yourself!”

Luckily, he hadn’t choked on the first piece and seemed to understand, for Radais started eating the deer slower and chewed the meat before swallowing.

Relaxed now that her son was no longer doing something hazardous to his health, Dusk waited until Radais was finished and glanced at her mate. “Deer?”

“I know, I know,” Enurto admitted, “I thought if he tries something new now, he will hunt exotic game later in his life.”

What Enurto didn’t notice was that the deer was not dead. In fact, the thing just plain fainted at the sight of Enurto descending from the sky like it was a Dragon of the Apocalypse.

As the information flooded his mind. Radais understands more about numbers now. The numbers under his XP growth is hunger meter. He won’t level up until that meter is full. Each time he meets the quota, the level-ups will take the body’s resources to make changes, and now he is hungry again.

Or maybe it is his species. His hypothesis might be right after the surge of energy to his body. He had grown almost double his previous size, and although he had gained muscle mass, he was insanely hungry. So he decided to put 10 points into all of his stats.

The effects were immediate. The strength and vitality made the muscles more prominent and the scales, bones, and inner organs more efficient and sturdy.

Radais has the feeling leveling up won’t be so easy like it was today.

More intelligence and wisdom are showing their benefits already.

While Radais was lost in mind pondering the changes about his body. His skills and how to move better, his parents were a little shocked.

“Did you kill that deer, my husband?” Dusk gently asked the Great Wyrm.

Sensing danger, Radais fled from the spot where the deer used to be. And hid behind a rock.

“Um… I’ve might have forgotten to check?” The black Great Wyrm nervously chuckled. His mate joined him as well.

The dragoness halted her laughter, and suddenly her face turned more serious. Now, a piercing glare squared Enurto from top to bottom:

“You nearly killed our son with that act of feeding him live meat ten times above his level.”

SLASH!

It all happened faster than what Radais took to blink his eyes. Once he did so, he couldn’t believe what he saw later…

His father had neither his arms nor his legs. In fact, they all kinda didn’t belong to his body anymore. His mother was standing right behind the limbless bloodied torso, her claws smeared with blood and a sadistic smile on her face:

“... Next time, you almost kill my son before he is ready, she said in a haughty tone… I will kill you!”

“Yes, dear,” Enurto said. He knows he fuck’d up but lets his mate advise him simply because he knew better.

No matter how you cut it, mother is always right. That and his mate is a crazy, energy-throwing, species exterminating, sadistic bitch. You don’t mesh with her.

The gnome goblins learned that the hard way.

Calming down a bit, Dusk looks for her son. Breathing in and out. And craving massive sections of their underwater lair in the process.

“Alright, little one, we are going to hunt today since you 're big enough.”

Radais does not move.

“Want to make me mad, little one?”

Radais used everything he had and more so to race over to his mother.

He still doesn’t understand a word they are saying, but he knows that his mother wants him now.

“Bye dear and good luck, son.”

His father spoke to him as his mother grabs him onto her back, and Radais was flabbergasted at sight. His father was already healed. He barely looks hurt!

Lesson Dragon;

Chromatic dragons are a type of dragons that follow the path of evil. They were generally evil, greedy, and predatory and always look forward to a fight.

The female tends to be more frightening than the males when angered a great deal.
