《Mountain's folly》14 . Instant HairPower

Yurt and I immediately began moving, Yurts aura flared to life, as an earthen Armour took shape around him. His movements quick and sure, as a ripple of the floor seemed to spread out from him, a focused attack on the closet Doom Hair Sect member, sending them crashing against the wall, they weren't quick to get up afterwards.
My movements sent me towards the more powerful few in the array, but before I could reach the true lynch pins of it all, a few sacrifices appeared in front of me. It took all of two seconds to dispatch their weak attacks and kill them swiftly, but that was enough time for the Hair construct to show up in front of me. A single punch from this creature would cripple me for quite some time.
Dancing away from it was doing me much good, it was slow, but the strikes and the power behind them were scary.
I hadn't taken the Demon Hair sect to be capable of such advanced arrays and linked construct arrays were purely the areas of righteous sects, when the few were willing to make sacrifices for the many. An idea that I hadn't thought possible in a demonic sect, even one as atypical as them.
They seemed to be growing as a sect, which was worrying, any sect capable of constructs like these, could very easily set up a powerful defense against all manner of cultivators. A few golden cores in a formation like this would make some real trouble for even some high Nascent Soul Cultivators.
I don't know what they were instilling in their new recruits to not only join in with such a cooperative and vulnerable individually tactic. But to also sacrifice themselves to stronger foes just to allow the continued success of the whole. That went against the entire philosophies of most demonic sects.

What Ideology had changed them?
I was slowly making my way towards the main power-sources of the array, the construct being too slow and collectively dumb, it must be a fairly new spell that they are trying out, there should me much more intelligence with any construct that takes twelve or so people to bring into being.
That was lucky for me as it made it beatable.
I couldn't face it one on one. Looking over to the other side of the room Yurt was holding his own against several of enemy Cultivators, two mid and a peak foundation level Cultivators tied him up, from moving any further, it was only his incredible defense that was keeping him in the battle.
I was getting closer and the closer to the other Cultivators, the Construct in its rage of failure, seemed to roar soundlessly before leaping at me, now was the chance I needed.
With a burst of power from my dantian crack, I sped over towards the closest array member, ready to take out as many as I could.
A massive ache ran through my body, it felt as if every bit of my power was crying out.
I fell to the ground, what the hell was causing such an issue.
Looking back at where the construct was to gauge just how fucked I was, I saw it was now attacking the barrier on the stairs, the defenses Yurt and I left behind were slowly being torn apart, not affecting Yurt at all, but causing me great backlash.
It didn't make sense, there was no way my power was connected over such long distances, it seemed illogical.
That did give me an Idea though.
With a simple thought the energy changed instantly from a rock solid defensive protection, to a layer of liquid like energy, that spilled itself all over the construct.

I could slowly see the movements slowing down.
I could sense my energy happy to see the runes within the mass of hair. They began to clung onto them with a vengeance. With a sudden pop, I gained control of the Construct, that was handy.
The energy from their arraying failing sent a bright red mixed with an eerie yellow wave of energy exploding out of the center point, causing a few of the weaker cultivators in the formation to fall to the floor dead.
The others suffering from the effects of severe backlash.
Now that I was in control of the construct the remaining cultivators were nothing. It tore through them on its leftover energy. Aiding Yurt in killing off his combatants.
Once the coast was clear and the floor cleared of enemies, I let the remaining energy go from the construct, it disappearing in a haze of red energy.
There was a yellow crystal left behind however.
Walking over to if, it became my soul focus, everything else seemed to fade into the background.
Touching it felt like a million ants crawling over my skin, slowly eating their way inside and ravaging all around. I felt intense pain, more even than when my dantian was cracking open.
Then when it came into contact with my inner energy, it mellowed out, joining my energy squealing in happiness, they felt connection. With it came power, both qi and life force came rushing in and was subdued by my energy, they then joined to become one.
It took a few minutes for Yurt to get my attention but by the time he did, i had broken through to become a high Foundation Establishment Cultivator. Nearly tripling my strength.
Yurt was looking at me like I was a monster, which I was, that was not something I had expected I could do, it very much didn't match up with the normal progression path of a righteous cultivator.
Despite his looks and general attitude it was clear that Yurt was a true righteous cultivator.
"What are you,Who are you? Why shouldn't I kill you right now?"
Getting to my feet, Yurt slowly backed away while getting into a combat stance.
"For one, you probably wouldn't be able to, the other is that I am the chief disciple of Elder Leo."
"Well, fuck"

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
