"That's enough." The teacher called out.
I sat up to see that nearly everyone else had collapsed from spirit exhaustion. Rose was the only one who still had her spirit, which had stopped giving bolts of lightning, but she was swaying enough that a mild breeze would knock her over.
"Recall your spirit." The teacher yelled at Rose. Rose's spirit faded and returned to her, she fell back into a seated position, exhausted.
"The lesson is over, you can leave." Half of the students slowly make their way back to the castle, the others give up and remain strewn across the field moving just enough to prove they're alive.
I look at the fox, it jumps nimbly on to my shoulders.
I approach Rose. She looks at me, then speaks, "I thought i would be the best at this." She doesn't look saddened by this though. I offer my hand, and help her to her feet. "Thanks". She sways heavily, falling on to me.
I catch her, supporting her weight. And begin walking her back to the castle.
Following her directions, although unnecessarily, i take her back to her room, before disappearing and changing into Myth. I recall my spirit, a wight presses against my mind as a flood of memories rushes in. Appearing suddenly on a grassy feild, resting on the Lore's lap, watching as one by one each student faints and their spirits fade.
I shake my head clearing my mind and return to Rose. I enter her room to find her asleep on the floor, i pick her up careful not to wake her and place her on her bed. And leave.
I change back into Lore and return to the library to continue researching runes.
The Following weeks were uneventful, Sapphire and Rose continued to eat breakfast together. Lessons took place in the morning covering both generic and magic subjects, from the great works of poetry to the great mistakes of magic to military tactics to the variations of source types to painting. Practice took place in the afternoon. I was no longer allowed into alchemy after the fifth explosion.

"Hey what are you doing next week?" Rose asks. The math lessons were overly repetitive, and the work set was often completed early.
'nothing. why?' I wrote back.
"The arena in town is performing a play." She spoke overexitedly.
'they perform plays?'
"Yeah, it's the opening of the roads. Want to go see?"
'sure'
"Great." She smilled brightly.
At the end of the lesson i went to back to the library, while everyone else went to eat lunch i devoured knowledge. The library was as quiet and peaceful as the shelves had books, and of books there were many, but on the subject of rune enchanting, there were only a few. I reached out randomly and picked a book from the shelves, 'Purfume, A Scent For Every Reason.' I place the book back. I wonder the shelves for a while and pickup another book 'The Mystery of the absent dragons' I open it up,
Book: The mystery of the absent dragons
'I have spent my life searching for the truth and yet it still remains a mystery, where are the dragons?
Historical records show a species intelligent, strong, immortal, with their own ways, and perhaps their own language, some ruling of the land as a wise king, some slaughtering unceasingly and reveling in chaos. Yet nearly 4000 years ago, almost simultaneously, they dissapeared, with only the wyverns remaining in their place.
The last one being killed in the...'
I close the book. I didn't need another history lesson. I place it back.
"Looking for a book?" The librarians voice startled me. As the librarian arrives suddenly.
I shake my head in response and look back at the shelves, and they looked bleak.
"Oh, i know just the book for you." She disappears in a figurative flash and returns momentarily holding a book, "Here."

I take the book, 'Circles for runes.' i nod in thanks. But she had already left.
I sat down and read the book, it detailed various circles that could assist in rune enchanting.
The Following class was circle construction held in one of the numerous halls. This was lead by Temple.
"Today we will be practicing attack and defence." Temple spoke while handing out thin wands tipped with a milky white crystal. "Since you will all be using the same wands the strength of your circles will come from it's stability rather than its energy." He directed us into groups of two.
I faced Lavender, one of Rose's friends.
"Begin." Temple declared.
I raised the wand and waved it in the air, leaving behind a trail of white light, which i use to carefully draw a basic circle. Every circle has a command and mine stated, 'Stop all things from passing through'. I finished and looked at my opponent.
Lavender was rapidly and flawlessly drawing petals onto her circle changing into a flower. She completed the petals, i brace for impact, yet adds another layer of petals.
thud, a circle flashes causing a dull thud as an impact hits a shield. The others are completing their attacks, a few of which successfully strike their opponents.
I look at lavander who keeps adding more layers of petals each layer having less than those before it. I quickly draw a second shield circle, followed by a third.
Lavender completes a layer. Then stops to admire her work.
I add a fourth layer.
"Stop wasting time and attack." Temple calls out.
"Do i have to, it's so pretty." Lavender complains.
"Now."
"But..."
"Now."
"Fine."
I look across. The magical flower is gently spining. Lavander raises her hand to the center of the circle, and taps it gently.
thüm, the air reverberates and vibrates instantly shattering the first circle, then the second shatters, then the third, then the fourth, in quick succession.
My body feels like it's being hit a thousand times as i'm sent flying back.
I twist my body, landing on my feet.
I try and write another circle yet my hand shakes to much to complete it.
"Lore is out." Temple says.
So i sit and watch everyone else get hurt instead.

The Other - a (man) called Ted
A figure, large and present through time in ways most would not understand. Seemingly uncaring about all except his own principles, the one we refer to as the Other (for legitimate reasons, lest some accidentally call upon his old name), finds his way through life. Though refusing to claim the title himself, this (immortal)'s projects have begun to leave him behind, awaiting some accident to move him back into the world. - - - - - - Initially intended to be a novella, then a project to keep me sane in busy times IRL, this will be considered the roughest of drafts. Also, IRL may prevent me from regular updates after the backlog is done. Tags with a grain of salt, items may be mentioned briefly in story so far, or in chapters already written but not published. Content warnings just in case. Some perspective switching in the first several chapters. Legitimately though, in the first chapters an explanation is provided for referencing to the MC as 'the Other.'
