《The One and Only》31. Indifference

Without saying a word, Ma Kui wore a cold face and started to search on Lin Yun’s body.
More and more people were gathering and they were all staring at Ma Kui, holding their breath.
Arms? Empty!
Before the chest? Empty!
On the back? Empty!
And the legs? Still empty!
Nothing was in there…
Ma Kui wore that grim face and said coldly, “Take your clothes off!”
As he said, Lin Yun took of his long robe.
But still nothing on him! Ma Kui searched his robe in and out and even didn’t find an iron wire, let alone hidden weapons.
The sunlight was shining on Lin Yun’s solid body. Those shin bones and muscles having been tamped with his qi were sinewy. Only those wounds on his skin, old and new, looked harsh.
“Damn it, your sword slave! Why are you wearing a hood?”
Since he found nothing, Mu Kui got steamed up and ripped it off from his head.
It was just a piece of cloth, of course there was nothing in it.
Without the hood, the purple mark for a sword slave between his eyebrows looked quite blinding, which made some of them frowned and even aroused a fuss.
Compared with the frenzied Ma Kui, Lin Yun, on the contrary, looked quite calm with his eyes closed.
He just recalled some memories, some heartbreaking memories.
Some inner disciple lost a sword in Sword-washing Chamber. Did you steal it? Say it!”
Said Zhou Ping while kicking the original master onto the ground.
The original master was startled, quiet anxious deep in his heart. He said with a trembling voice, “No…No! Senior brother Zhou, listen to me. The sword…I didn’t steal it. I wouldn’t take anything from others.”
“How dare you talk back!?”
Zhou Ping slammed the original master’s back with his scabbard, and cried, “I said you steal it. If you can’t find it, then use the pills Su Ziyao gave you to pay your debt, otherwise I’m gonna expel you out of Qingyun Sect!”
“It should be him! It must be him!”
“Who else could it be?”
“It’s definitely him! He pretends to be an honest man, but actually he is as cunning as a fox.”

All those disciples around were denouncing the original master.
“No…it...it’s not me.”
Bearing the huge pains on the back, the original master twitched his face. He wanted to retort, only finding that he even didn’t have the strength to talk.
In the dormitory of the factotums.
Curling in the bed alone, the original master touched the mark on his forehead. In order to stay, today he chose to be a sword slave.
He felt quite uneasy deep in his heart. And the intermittent pains between his eyebrows made him sleepless.
He didn’t know when he fell to sleep.
Deep in the night, a bunch of factotums threw the original master out while he was still asleep.
It was raining heavily outside, the original master was drenched though. He was confused, “What are you doing this to me?”
“Fuck off! This is the dormitory for factotums. You shouldn’t stay here.”
“You are a sword slave now and you still want to sleep with us?”
The downpour made the original master chill. He tried to wipe away the raindrops on his face a few times but failed.
He looked at those factotums under the roof with his blurred eyes due to the big rain.
The original master begged them with a feeble voice, “Even if you drive me away, please let me stay here tonight, at least until the rain stops.”
“Get lost! Get your ass out of here! As a sword slave, you have no right to stay with us.”
“Is this your rubbish? Take it and go!”
Someone threw out Lin Yun’s package from inside the room.
Bam! They slammed the door shut!
At midnight, the rain was pouring down!
The original master’s whole body was nearly soaked in water while holding his package. Endless coldness and loneliness devoured him.
Like Lin Yun, the original master walked away without saying anything, while chewing his lips.
With the original master disappeared, Lin Yun opened his eyes and looked at Ma Kui, “Did you find anything?”
“I…”
Ma Kui had lost his tongue because he didn’t find anything indeed.
At this time, his eyes shone because he saw Lin Yun’s Storage Bag around his wrist, “The Storage Bag! You must have hidden it in it!”

Absurd!
Everyone knew that to open the Storage Bag needed distraction and also some time.
He could never have had the time to do that with so many pairs of eyes staring at him down there.
“If there is still no hidden weapons in my Storage Bag as you claimed, what are you gonna do?”
Asked Lin Yun while turning his eyes to Ma Kui.
“If there is no hidden weapon in it, I’m gonna kowtow to you to apologize.”
Ma Kui had no way to back down. He was quite anxious, “There must be a hidden weapon, otherwise how did my hands get hurt?”
“As you wish!”
Lin Yun took his Flower Burial Sword out of it and held it in his hand, then some other belongings.
He felt it too slow, so he directly poured all the stuff in the Storage Bag out directly.
Countless gold, silver and treasures were out, dazzling most people’s eyes under the sun.
Except those treasures, the second attractive stuff should be those over 1,000 lower spiritual stones.
Most outer disciples down there were coveting them. They never expected Lin Yun to be so wealthy.
They were staring at those spiritual stones and those dazzling treasures with fixed eyes.
Except those two things, it was only some inconspicuous stuff, like pills, clothes, food, evil beast’s parts, a lot of them.
Only no hidden weapons Ma Kui wanted!
“No way! It’s impossible!”
Ma Kui pawed through those things like crazy. Suddenly he saw a scroll and when he was about to unroll it,
Lin Yun raised his eyebrows and cried, “Stop!”
“Hahaha, the hidden weapon must be in it.”
Ma Kui just ignored Lin Yun and tried to unroll it.
Boom!
With a fierce wind sprung up, the Flower Burial Sword was rotating in Lin Yun’s palm fast!
And the next moment Lin Yun already stabbed at Ma Kui.
The blade took Lin Yun to fly instantly while the scabbard hit Ma Kui who was trying to turn around badly.
Pfff!
Ma Kui spitted out a mouthful of blood and got blown away and then fell down to the ground.
Everything happened in an instant. No one expected Lin Yun who looked rather calm would start a fight.
And with such a deadly move!
“Flowing Wind Swordplay!”
“That’s the lethal move, Swords Rotating to Make Winds!”
Someone recognized it and shouted, which aroused a big stir.
So the rumor that someone said Lin Yun’s Flowing Wind Swordplay was false collapsed of itself.
“Lin Yun, I won’t unfold the scroll. Let me just have a check, OK?”
The judge picked the scroll up and asked Lin Yun.
Lin Yun nodded, meaning he agreed.
After rubbing and feeling for some time, the judge made his own judgment and came before Ma Kui.
“This is just a common scroll. If you don’t believe me, you can check it yourself.”
After taking over the scroll, Ma Kui felt it carefully. And the longer he felt it, the more darkened his face became. And when he made sure it was really an ordinary scroll with nothing in, his face was totally pale.
Bam! The scroll in his hand fell on the ground.
On thinking of what he had just said, he totally panicked now, and looked down the arena helplessly.
Those who sided him and shouted for him now all felt ashamed and lowered their heads to avoid any eye contacts with Ma Kui.
Till now, anyone who dared to support would really be a laughing stick.
The hot sun was shining over the head, while Ma Kui was full of cold sweat and felt cold in his heart.
“Junior brother Lin Yun, I…am sorry to have offended you. I am a rough man. I didn’t mean to. No, no, I mean senior brother Lin Yun. Senior brother…”
Ma Kui was incoherent, and his face looked extremely awful.
After putting on his robe, Lin Yun walked away without even looking at Ma Kui, leaving only two words,
“Kneel down!”

I highly recommend checking it out if you have not heard of it before.- The story's cover and chapter banners are constructed from in-game screenshots with some image editing.- This is a fanfic based on the progression of the game and the official Terraria lore. The citizen characters are based on the NPCs, while the player characters are wholly my own creation.
