《The One and Only》22. Young Master of Yun Family

The third spiritual stone task was to kill the Ink Flame Tiger.
Ink Flame Tiger was a six level evil beast, a king in deep of Hengyun Mountains.
All evil beasts of the same level were not its rival, or even became its food.
The only good news was that the Ink Flame Tiger was solitary.
Sometimes the evil beasts of lower level that lived in groups were even harder to deal with.
Using his Wild Goose lightness skill, Lin Yun only cost two days to arrive at Hengyun Mountains.
Whole three days less than before! Now one would know the importance of mastering a kind of lightness skill.
But the challenge just began.
It was already not easy to deal with an evil beast of the sixth level for Lin Yun who was at the fifth level of Martial Practice.
Let alone the Ink Flame Tiger.
Fortunately having observed that tiger scroll for a long time, Lin had generated great immunity to the evil spirit of evil beasts.
One could say he had generated kind of immunity to tiger evil beasts, which brought great advantage to him.
After entering into the deep of Hengyun Mountains, Lin Yun started to look for the Ink Flame Tiger.
Ink Flame Tiger was solitary and good at hiding, so it wasn’t an easy thing to find one.
After a few days, he still had no clue.
But he met a lot of evil beasts of lower levels on the way, and he just slaughtered them.
For his present power, he could easily kill any evil beast of the fifth level with his Flowing Wind Swordplay. But it might cost him some time if he met evil beasts of the sixth level.
But that was just rare occasions.
“Roar!”
One day when Lin Yun was searching in the woods as usual, he suddenly heard a roaring sound.
That was familiar to him. It’s a tiger!
And the next moment, Lin Yun heard the tiger running and its heavy breath.
While Lin Yun was still thinking whether it was an Ink Flame Tiger,
a fierce tiger with a total black body and burning-like claws emerged within Lin Yun’s horizon.
“Am I so lucky?”
Lin Yun was a little surprised. He had looked for it for a few days but got no clue, and now it sent itself to him?
But it seemed that the Ink Flame Tiger got badly injured and was trying to escape.
Someone had eyed on it?
That was a little awkward. Lin Yun didn’t like competing with others. He’d rather make detours than compete with others sometimes.

While he was still hesitating, that Ink Flame Tiger already jumped at him,
with fierce eyes, and as swift as a black lightning.
The terrifying evil spirit suppressed Lin Yun along with the tiger’s roar.
If it had been someone else, one would already have been paralyzed with fright.
But Lin Yun didn’t feel a thing at all. He pulled out his Flower Burial Sword in an instant and moved his body swiftly.
Having displayed his Flowing Wind Swordplay of Big Achievement, he was as swift as a swallow. In a flash, he jumped and fell, the sword shadows were like the flashing light.
With only one round, over ten sword scratches were left on the body of the Ink Flame Tiger.
It was obvious the sword scratches Lin Yun left were much more dreadful than its old wounds.
Old wounds plus new wounds, the Ink Flame Tiger kept screeching.
Swords Rotating to Form Wind!
Lin Yun turned around and threw another stab. He was like the flowing stream, while his sword was like the lightning. Having made Big Achievement of his Flowing Wind Swordplay, Lin Yun killed that Ink Flame Tiger that had already badly injured with a lethal move in an instant.
After putting away his sword, Lin Yun lost in his thought.
It seemed that this Ink Flame Tiger was indeed badly injured, otherwise he couldn’t kill it so easily.
Tah-tah-tah!
While he was still thinking, a burst of hurried steps aroused.
He looked back and saw four men running to him. The young man in the front was well-dressed, looking noble and arrogant.
After seeing the body of the Ink Flame Tiger, the young man laughed, “You beast, you think you can run away? You are still dead meat in the end.”
It seemed he didn’t look Lin Yun into his eyes at all, like he was transparent.
Lin Yun found it not right. At least he did his part in killing it. He should take a share at least.
So he reminded him, “Friend, actually it was me who killed the Ink Flame Tiger.”
“Do you want to die? How dare you grab it from me? You are really sick of living!”
That young didn’t expect Lin Yun would open his mouth to ask for a share at all, so he immediately burst into anger.
“Well, I need the four claws of it for my task. As for the rest of it, you can take it all. What do you say?”
After all it was hard to find an Ink Flame Tiger. So Lin Yun didn’t want to give up such an opportunity.

But when he tried to argue, he noticed the ornamentation embroidered on his clothes before the chest.
He was a little astonished, because it was embroidered with the word “Yun” on some water waves.
And then he found that one of his servants was the man who ran away under his nose that day.
He said to himself, “Damn it!”
As expected, that servant immediately came to their young master and whispered something beside his ear.
Then the way the young master of Yun Family looked at Lin Yun immediately changed. He laughed and said, “What a small world! The guy who killed my servant dares to seize the Ink Flame Tiger from me. Good! No one has ever been bold enough to go against our Yun Family for a long time.”
Boom!
Speaking of which, he already threw a punch towards Lin Yun!
He sent forth the momentum of sixth level. And the punch made a harsh sound in the air.
Apparently he wanted to hammer Lin Yun without giving him time to react.
But Lin Yun didn’t let his guard down at all. The moment the young master threw a punch, he already fought back with his Tiger Fist.
Now he had made Big Achievement of his Tiger Fist, only one step to its consummation.
And these days he had been practicing his Pure Yang martial art with the spiritual stones. 20 lower spiritual stones every day. And he made great progress of the third level of his Pure Yang martial art. Meanwhile his inner power also had improved a lot.
Boom!
The moment the two fists clashed, the young master of Yun Family loosed off a terrible scream, since his whole right arm was nearly broken.
He was thrown away, with his mouth bleeding.
Instead of injuring Lin, he who sneaked the attack got badly injured instead.
“Let’s go.”
The young master of Yun Family got badly frightened. On seeing Lin Yun was just an outer disciple and only at the fifth level, he dared to do so. But he had never expected Lin Yun would be so powerful.
His face turned pale after landing, and he immediately ran away with his servants.
Lin Yun frowned, but gave up chasing them after having hesitated for a while, because other evil beasts would come to eat the Ink Flame Tiger’s body if he didn’t take care of it.
“Forget it. I should be more careful of those rats.”
Then he took out a dagger and handled the body of the Ink Flame Tiger. Then he left quickly.
……
“Damn! I got bullied by an outer disciple of Qingyun Sect!”
After the young master of Yun Family ran far away, he shivered because of his anger and kept saying some nasty words.
“Crap! Crap! You are all a bunch of crap!”
Looking at the three servants behind him, he became ever angrier, “Didn’t you claim to be masters of the sixth level?! My family pays you so many resources every year, and you can’t even defeat an outer disciple of Qingyun Sect? Why can you even do?”
“And you! I asked you to look for the Blood Lily. The Blood Lily was taken away, and one servant of my family got killed. You son of bitch!”
Yun Family was a great power in White Water Town. Even through the whole Skywater Kingdom, they are only inferior to the four sects.
Their young master had been spoiled since he was young, and had never been insulted like this.
On seeing that he was utterly discomfited, the three servants all lowered their heads and dare not say a word.
Actually they were all smart enough. On seeing that Lin Yun’s arm was nearly broken by Lin Yun’s punch, they immediately knew that all of them together might not be Lin Yun’s match.
So at such circumstances, no one dared to fight him for the young master.
On seeing the young master almost vented his anger out, the man having been released by Lin Yun whispered, “Young master, I think this guy should be an elite sect disciple, an offspring of an elder or a head, otherwise he wouldn’t be so powerful.”
Having defeated their young master easily with the fifth level of Martial Practice, of course he wouldn’t be a common one.
The young master said angrily, “Do I need you to tell me? Do you think my eyes are for decoration? I just wonder if you have any method to beat him. I can’t take this.”
The servants looked at each other, saying nothing.
Now they were in their own territory, of course they could do whatever they wanted.
But in the wild with no help, how dare they provoke Lin Yun anymore?
“I’ve got an idea. We can take the risk to have a try, and if we make it, that guy would be surely dead meat.”
“Say it.”
After hearing the servant’s plan, the young master looked satisfied, and said, “Let’s do it. I must destroy him this time.”

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]

20 years have passed since the Chaos Energy Quake rippled through the Milky Way Galaxy. During the year-long Quake, Chaos Energy became unusable, rendering much of the galaxy’s technology useless, and preventing Chaotics – beings who possess supernatural abilities – from using their powers. The galaxy has since moved on from the Quake, but to this day no one knows what could have caused it. The only broadly possible hints lie with the woefully few Chaotics born during the Quake, such as the seven Chaotics born on the world of Nimalia, homeworld of the Nimalian Territories. The other galactic civilizations see little correlation between the Quake and those born during it, but now that the seven have reached the age of 20, some Nimalians think they may be able to finally learn exactly what caused the galactic disruption two decades ago…

Mark was a data analyst that had recently landed a job in a company and his life was pretty normal if not a bit boring through upon meeting a mugger in an alley his life had a drastic change not neccesarily for the better. He stopped being a sleeper and saw a glimpse of the true form of the world which opened his eyes to a new life altogether. ============================================================================================== This is my first fiction and i am loosely basing this on Mage:The Awakening rulebook. Naturally i am going to change things a bit but i don't intend to make this a novel where the main character goes around changing the whole world. It will be based on a normal guy discovering a new world while trying to find his place in it. Also please write comments warning me about things such as development speed or unrealistic relations.

Sometimes my voice dies in my throat, buries itself beneath waves of crippling suffocation, burns itself out as cold hands tear at my laced skin. I have smiled while my eyes have cried and pleaded, my wrists numb, my lips wobbling and blue, and stars escaping this dark night that I'm trapped in. I long for a darkness that gives way to light. But I do feel the warmth of petals gathering and scattering in my cold bones, and imagine the touch and the sweetness of a kiss, and my heart rises to the surface of this sea and finds a sky painted by passing artists remaining far above our heads. I'm breathing out all the words I've kept locked under the pages of my breaking mind. And by doing so, I'm going to heal.TRIGGER WARNINGS: depression, anxiety, self harm, suicidal thoughts, OCD, panic attacks
