《Not A Fairy Tale》Arc 5 - Chapter 8

My entire body burned as hot as any flame. Everything was red and I smelt so much blood that I almost thought I might go insane from the smell alone. Saliva gathered in my mouth and I even began drooling as my body began cramping up. It felt as if something was pulling on my arms, legs, mouth, torso and back, similar to my integration with Gier as I transformed.
My arms doubled in length, same as my legs and upper body. I felt my stomach sink in as I became slimmer. Even my chest shrunk and hardened. My skin began growing fur, fur which consumed my clothing, making it part of itself. My jaws extended forwards and I could feel my ears grow as my hair slowly turned much darker and grew, connecting itself to my back where it ran down until it suddenly extended back, forming a black tail. Next, I felt like something was pulling on my finger and toenails as they slowly grew into long black claws. The last thing to change were my teeth, they became sharp and as long as my fingers used to be.
Even if I couldn't see myself right now I knew exactly what I looked like. A grey beast resembling a wolf with slim arms, legs and an overall slim body, the head of a wolf with black hair growing down my spine, connected to my long black tail. Black claws protruding from my large thin paws. And eyes the colour of blood. My veins were bulging so much that I feared they might burst through my furred skin. Saliva drooled from my mouth as I opened it and let out a loud howl directed at the image of the full moon that Evergreen had conjured for me.
I turned my gaze towards the man I had been fighting. He seemed so small now, with fear in his widened eyes, all four of his hands held out in front of him... as if they had any chance of protecting him. Still salivating I stepped forwards, breaking the ground I walked on with ease. Extending both long arms I grabbed the two magical hands and pushed them aside with ease. Then I sunk one of my claws deep into the man's throat, blood quickly began gushing out of it, as water would gush out of a fountain.

With my other clawed paw, I lifted up the man and opened my mouth as wide as I could. Like snakes did I unhinged my jaw and consumed the man's entire body at once. Werewolves were made for just that. As soon as the man's body went past my throat it felt like he instantly began dissolving and by the time I had completely consumed him there was nothing left, not even my stomach was bulging like one might have assumed. I corrected my jaw and turned my attention to the battlefield. I saw people for what they were now, which was good, but there was still this insatiable hunger within me that I had no way of suppressing.
I looked down at Evergreen as I walked past her. Even she had fear in her eyes, something I could understand... but it still hurt, seeing her like that, fearful of me, one of her closest friends. Feeling slightly down I jumped right into the battlefield. Screams surrounded me, from foe and ally alike. Ignoring them I began ripping apart enemies, lifting them up above my head to consume them. It was the best meal I had in a long time. With every person I consumed I felt hungrier and hungrier.
"Leave her alone! She's on our side!" I heard the voice of Grand Sorcererss Elsa yell at some point.
When I turned my head I saw a few of the people that came from the fort, their spears pointed at me. All of them nodded and backed away from me. Just like with Evergreen, seeing something like that really hurt. But I couldn't spend too much time on this. There were still too many enemies, thousands of soldiers, two goliaths, that mammoth, many mages and, above all, that massive drake that stood in the back, not attacking... just looking at all of us with a menacing stare.

As I charged through an ocean of enemies I spotted Altair, currently fighting against an angry mammoth and the woman that sat on top of it. In another part of the battlefield, I saw Commander Lestul fight against Demon Lord Barion, who was shooting spikes formed out of earth at our commander. I wanted to help, I really did but I had my own troubles. Both of the goliaths, their chains had broken a while ago, were running towards me, using their hands to accelerate, reminding me of the way some apes ran.
Both charged at me, drooling more than I was. I let out a roar to welcome them as I caught their fists, which proved to be a mistake. With enough force to harm the drake in the back of the underground temple, I flew through the air, not stopping until I hit the wall at the far end of the temple. I didn't feel it at all so there was at least that... but now I had to get back to the battlefield somehow and I could feel some heavy debris on my left leg. I was unable to move even a centimetre.
Shit...
With both hands, I grabbed the rock and crushed it apart. My leg hammered. I already dreaded what it would feel like once I turned back if I could feel it while my pain was mostly suppressed. After letting out another howl I charged back into battle, taking a glance at Elsa, who was firing off spells left and right.
On my way towards the two goliaths, I pummeled every enemy I could get my claws on into the ground, leaving behind nothing but a bloody mess on the ground. When I reached the two goliaths, who hadn't left the spot from where they had thrown me into the wall yet, I let out another howl, this time even louder than any before. When I glanced at them I saw that they were holding their ears shut. That was my chance. Before they could do anything I grabbed the one on the right by the head and threw that one into the other one. Both tumbled to the ground. I saw one of them opening its mouth and quickly howled, making both hold their ears shut once again.
I'm going to massacre you shits!

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
