《Not A Fairy Tale》Arc 3 - Chapter 16

My entire body seemed to burn and I could feel my neck tensing up... but there was something about this... something I could use. I was angry, angry at this pain, angry at my suffering...

"O-Of course, I feel great M, don't worry..." I said, gritting my teeth as I sat up in my bed. "Oh, I'm more than just great!"

"What? What do you mean, more than good?" M asked, sounding quite confused. "Your entire body twisted itself in your bed for the past few hours and you were breathing heavily and all that."

I chuckled, sounding a little... concerning. At that moment I half expected to be slapped again, but she wasn't here.

"But now I feel good... I just got an idea," I said, getting out of bed.

My head pulsated with pain as I dressed myself and I was still in pain and as I became more aware of my surroundings I could see things in the corner of my eye. People were standing behind me, sometimes people from my old life, sometimes soldiers from the church... sometimes people I didn't even recognize. And then there were the voices. I couldn't quite make out what they were saying, too many of them were overlapping at the same time... I only knew one thing, they annoyed me.

Once I was fully dressed I just let myself fall down to the bottom of the tower I called my house for the past few months. M gracefully descended down and landed on my shoulder. The moment his claws touched me I cramped up a little. Out of pure reflex, I nearly hit M.

"What was that?!" he asked loudly.

I looked down at my hand. Despite the thick shoulder-patting of my leather armour I still felt his claws clearly... they didn't hurt but they were still uncomfortable.

"I... I don't know, but it doesn't matter, yes... let's go," I said.

With long steps, I left the building and immediately jumped to the next roof. It was early morning, the sun was up but not too high yet.

'So... what's your plan?' Ira asked.

"You should know, right?" I asked out loud.

"Who are you-" M began but with one look I shut him up.

'Your thoughts are a jumbled mess, I'd have an easier time deciphering the secrets of the cosmos,' Ira said.

"Hmm... well, it's quite simple really," I began, barely containing my chuckling, "- I'll just slaughter them all, and if I can't then I can at least detain them for long enough to get that... girl out of there," I explained.

'That's your genius plan?' Ira asked, sounding quite sceptical.

"Is it that head demon?" I heard M whisper to himself.

"Yes, yes. It's my head demon," I responded. "And Ira, you haven't even heard the best part yet, I just had an enlightenment about the Power of Wrath, how I can utilize it better," I said.

'What?' Ira asked.

"Yes, yes. Just wait, just wait. It will be glorious," I said as I jumped from roof to roof and eventually reached the upside-down boat.

With quick steps I walked over to it and stepped inside, M waited outside. As soon as I pushed aside the heavy piece of cloth everyone inside turned their attention to me. My body still hurt all over and I felt like throwing up...

"Mister Altair," one of the kids said with a bright smile.

"Yes, yes. Anyway, I'm leaving... soon, not yet, not yet. In five days... no wait, it's four now, right? Right? Yes... or no? Is that info even true? Doesn't matter. I'm leaving, so go find something else to do here, or leave as well. But don't follow me," I said.

Once I finished I turned around on the spot and was about to step back out when I felt something grab my hand.

"Mister Altair, please don't leave," the kid said.

Without thinking twice I slapped the kid across the face, making the young wood elven girl let go of my hand. She was so shocked that she couldn't even cry, all the others just stared.

"Now listen here you little shits... brats or whatever you want to be called. I'm leaving, accept it. And if you, no, if any of you touch me... I'll fucking kill all of you, understand... I don't want to, but I could, but I don't want to, you know, people don't like it when you kill children. So do me a favour and fuck off!" I yelled. "I have more important things to do over the next few days, you know stuff like this and that... more important, yes, this and that is far more important than you brats, no fuck off and leave me alone," I said loudly with a smile on my face.

The children all looked at me in shock but before they could do anything I already stepped out and scoffed at myself forever caring about them... even if they were useful.

"Now, for the important things... what important things? Hmm... right, that might be fun," I said to myself as I continued jumping back towards my house. My body was still in pain and I held back a grimace.

"A song, yes a song, that might work!" I said out loud mid-air earing me stares from below.

"A song? For what?" M asked.

"You'll see... you'll see," I responded.

And then I began singing.

"Dream a dream fall asleep, don't wake up, don't wake up... just... die?" I began singing. "No! No! I... I need something more glorious... yes, something that induces fear! Yes, fear is the only thing that can stop this... this pain, yes... fear, they need to fear me. But I like that start, they should all dream an eternal dream!"

I began chuckling uncontrollably.

"Are you really alright?" M asked, sounding worried.

"Shhh! You can't rush art!" I yelled as I jumped from roof to roof, earning me a few more stares and I could hear someone say something but didn't understand what it was.

Once I reached my house I immediately went inside and went up to my bedroom, M still following after me.

"Right, before I forget... M, I might need your help down there," I said.

"What do you mean?" he asked.

"When I slaughter my way through the members of Pergament of course," I elaborated.

"Right," he said. "I'll do my best."

"Good, good. Now I need silence, I need to make this song a masterpiece that makes people fear me!" I said loudly.

'Care to tell me about your... revelation first?' Ira asked.

"I said I need silence... yes, silence. Don't you understand!" I said out loud.

'Bu-... you know what fine, be crazy!' She said. 'You're going to end up like Happy Face at this rate...' she whispered.

I barely even realized what she said because I had already begun singing the song that kept going through my head... or rather the idea, of that song.

"Dream a dream, fall asleep..."
