《Reborn in another world with a glass of water》3. A girl I met, but it's hard to even call it a meeting

One, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three, make it clean. Wipe the floor, wipe the tables, clean everything.
“Ryan, are you done there?” the girl with a blonde ponytail asked.
“Yes ma'am!” I responded with a smile.
Ahh, work is great. Everyone should work. If you don’t work, then you don’t know life. If I could do only one thing, for the rest of my life, then it would be working. Would you believe me, if I told you, that I once wanted to be a NEET? Hahaha, funny times. But now? Now I know the value of work. Everyone should work.
Ahh…
I wanna die.
“Ryan! You didn’t clean this table good enough!” the girl with dog ears shouted.
Ahh, dog ears. They are so beautiful. I love dogs. Everyone should have a dog. They are good, kind, and faithful. When you see a dog, you want to cuddle him. But do you know why I love dogs so much? Because they are smart! They always know what you want from them! Always!
“T-There is no reason to glare at me so much… I w-will clean it myself.”
One hundred golden coins. This is the amount of money I need, for the potion. How much do I have now? Hmmm, it would be around half of a coin. Do you know what you can buy for that? A glass. Yeah, I sold it.
What? I’m angry? No! Of course I’m not angry. My soul is now like a beautiful song, and I’m its composer.
“Why is he smiling so much? It’s creepy.” one of the customers said, as he looked at me.
He was wearing a thick, silver armor that covered his whole body. Sitting on a wooden chair, before him there was a bowl of warm soup on the table. Under it, he had his big, two-handed sword.
“Is there a problem customer? Is your soup too warm? Do you want me to blow on it, to cool it down?” I asked him, and he moved away a little.
“F-Forget I have said anything. I’m so sorry.”
Ah, work is great. Why have I never worked before? I want to clean something.
I looked around. The place was packed, and people were talking, and smiling. Even if it was night now, it was still bright because magical lamps illuminated it.
How much time passed, since I started working here?
Five hours.
“Ryan! Leave this place to us. I want you to go somewhere!” once again, I heard the voice of a girl with blonde hair.
Her name is Eri, but she wants me to call her ma’am. Well, it’s not like I can refuse her.

“Of course ma’am. Everything you want.” I responded, and she handed me an envelope.
“It’s a message for my friend. She lives in the city too.“ she said, and then looked at the other girl, that had dog’s ears “Mika could go with you, but we have too many customers now. You understand, don’t you?”
I looked at the girl she was talking about. She was young, cute, and with dog’s ears. Everyone here loved here, especially men. Well, this girl was now looking at me with terror.
“Yeah, I understand.” I said, and Mika sighed.
“I knew you would understand Ryan. It’s so good to have a slave... a worker like you!”
What? What was that?
“Anyway, here. Take this, and turn right after leaving through the door. After twenty minutes of walking, you should find a bakery. I don’t think you will miss it, it’s big, and it has a large sign saying “Best Sweets In Flark” on it.” Eri said, and smiled. “Do you understand?”
Well, it doesn’t seem like something bothersome to do.
“Yeah I do.” I just replied.
“It’s really great to have a… worker like you. Anyway, you should hurry up. It’s getting late, and I don’t know how long her shop is open.” she said, while looking at the window “What are you waiting for? Go! I will need you here, as fast as possible hahaha.”
Why are you even laughing? Eh, I need to take care of this as fast as possible.
“I’ll be back, as fast as I can.” I said, and turned around.
When I approached the door, and opened it, a chilly wind has blowed at me. It wasn’t freezing on the outside at all, but it wasn’t as warm as in here.
“Good luck Ryan!” I just heard a voice, of a girl behind me, and then I went out.
The night was young, that’s why it wasn’t that dark. I could see the city clearly, and it looked as beautiful as before. When I looked at the windows of the houses, I noticed that the rooms behind them were lit with a warm light.
“Ma’am...” I said to myself, and then I put the envelope in the pocket of my jeans, as I turned right.
I hate working. I don’t want to work. Yeah, I don’t want to work, and I don’t want to fight with a demon king. But those stats are too low! I just wanted to take a test, to see how talented I am. And now?!
I don’t even have one skill. What is that!? I must be skilled in something! I can’t accept it! I can’t accept it.

Yeah, maybe fighting with demons is too scary. But drinking one potion? Even a baby can do that. I will get some money, and then I will buy one. Just a one potion, to change those miserable stats of mine.
“Ahh…” I sighed, and then I looked around.
The city was gorgeous, with those colorful, wooden buildings, and big lamps. From time to time, I would see a person or two. Most of them were just drunk, probably going to their homes.
It was still difficult for me to accept, that this was another world. Everyone was speaking in a language I could understand. They used the same letters, and even words.
And now I needed to save this world.
Of course I’m not doing this. I hate to say this, but I don’t care about the demon king. I don’t even know him. He has never done anything bad to me, and it doesn’t seem like this world suffers from his existence that much.
I don’t care, and I’m not going to die for something like that. I’m sure of that. Even if the whole heaven is cheering for me right now, I won’t do it. Even if I was reborn to do that.
As I thought about this, a young girl’s voice escaped from one of the small alleys.
“Has fate brought us together?” it said to me slowly.
What is that? Who said it? I looked into the direction, from which I heard her. When I did, I saw a young, petite girl, with shoulder-length, silver hair, and big, purple eyes. Her face was cute, because of her small nose, and lips.
She was wearing a light pink skirt, and a white shirt, with a unfastened, navy blue coat on it. On her head, she had a pointy, wizard’s hat, in the same color as her coat, and in her hands she was holding a wooden staff.
Yeah, she looked nice. Almost like a mage or something, but there was one problem. She was standing near a trashcan at night, saying really weird things. I you have ever played any RPG, then you know that a person like this must be someone that will drag you into an adventure.
If she is a person like this, then there is only one thing that I can do.
“Hey! Why are you running away!” she shouted with a cute voice, as she ran after me.
What does she want from me?!
“Is this about money? Are your friends waiting in the shadows to attack me? I’m sorry to say this, but I don’t have anything on me, and even if I did I wouldn’t give you anything.” I said, and I looked at her, while still running.
She was smaller than me, so she was slower, but for some reason she was still going after me.
“It’s nothing like that! What are you even talking about?!"
“Your sweet words won’t fool me!” I replied, without slowing down.
I don’t know her. Who knows what she is after. Maybe she wants to steal from me? Or maybe... Maybe she is after my body?!
“I just wanted to talk with you! I saw you at the guild. My name is…”
Oh no! I don’t want to know your name. I don’t want to see you!
As I thought about those things, I felt an adrenaline rush. My legs moved faster, and my body felt a lot lighter. I didn’t even heard her last words - I was that fast.
I ran for another two minutes. I knew that she wasn’t able to catch me, but I wanted to make sure that I won’t need to deal with her anymore. When I finally stopped, I looked back to see if I could see her.
Thankfully, I couldn’t.
“W-What was t-that.” I said, while breathing faster. I was exhausted, and it was hard for me to even stand. For someone like me, even the smallest physical exercise is dangerous.
Girls are scary. I don’t even know her. Who stands near a trashcan at night, while saying things like this! She must be a nutjob! Thank God I have lost her.
“I d-don’t want to move anymore…” I said, still feeling the consequences of running so fast.
The envelope?! Did I lost it?
I touched the pocket of my jeans. It was still there. It’s good, I wouldn’t want to come back, to look for it.
Now I only need to find this building. I don’t know for how much I have been running, and I don’t even know if I passed the place I was supposed to go to. It’s not like it’s my fault, I was running for my life!
Well, I can say that, but finding this place might now take me some…
“Best Sweets In Flark” I read the sign of a building, that was standing near me. It seems that my luck isn’t as bad, as I thought it was.

Witchbone: The Goblins Winter
Themes found in these stories include friendship, found family, defying negative expectations, trying to figure out how to be a force for good in your corner of the world, doing heroic things even if you don't look or feel like a hero, and that being different isn't necessarily fatal. Summary: A spell of arctic weather. A mysterious death. The reading of a will. Strange tracks in the snow. Eleven-year-old Danny Hallow accepts his life, such as it is. His father is dead, his mother left years ago. His three Keepers are the only people aware of Danny's erratic and not-very-impressive psychic abilities. He has no friends, he's been suspended from school, and he's responsible for the life of a small brown bat that's ended up in his care. When Danny's estranged Uncle Enoch dies under mysterious circumstances, he and his Keepers are called to the town of Eddystone, New Hampshire for the reading of the man's will. Traveling four hundred miles from his dreaded hometown to attend, Danny is happy to get away, possibly inherit something interesting- and maybe find out more about his family while he's there. Arriving at the crumbling family estate of Gnomewood Home, he finds it to be hauntingly familiar, a bit creepy, oddly comforting, and possibly alive. When his uncle's will reveals that he's inherited Gnomewood and everything in it, he's determined to stay and make a happier life for himself in Eddystone, somehow. But at Gnomewood, he finds more questions than answers to his family's secrets. Disturbing old memories come to him in dreams. His psychic abilities begin to grow stronger, and as a result he becomes aware that a horde of cryptic creatures are plaguing the town of Eddystone, seemingly drawn out by the spell of an unusually frigid February. Toothy little goblins that are sneaky, vicious, and hungry. Goblins that take a particular interest in Danny. Will the emergence of the alien, and potentially dangerous, power he's inherited from his peculiar family tree help Danny survive the goblin infested winter, inadvisable attempts to befriend a terrifying boy with silver eyes, and a new school? Only if he learns to control them before they put him and everyone around him in danger. Before they convince some people that he should never have been allowed to exist at all. Before he becomes just another twisted tale in his family's bizarre history, kept hidden for centuries within the ivy-covered walls of Gnomewood Home.
