《Walter of the Apocalypse Book 1 Exile of Valhalla》chapter 3

With reflexes trained from countless hours of fighting, Walter caught the beast with an elbow in the jaw while grabbing its hair with his left hand as it dove at him. Using its momentum while pivoting his body he smashed its face into the ground. Stomping on its back it spasmed and stopped.
A second beast followed letting Walter get a good look at it. Its skin a mottled purple and green, with blonde hair framing its face. Pale yellow eyes stared at him unseeing. Clacking its mouth open and close, breaking its teeth into pointed shards. It wore a blouse that was once white now stained yellow and brown with dried bodily fluids. Its fingertips were peeled off showing white bone, broke with jagged sharp edges. Its black slacks dirty with stains that he didn’t want to touch him, had a looped string coming from its pocket with the edge a key poking through its pants.
Walter and the beast just stood there for a second sizing each other up. He now knew this was a mutation apocalypse and he was screwed if he didn’t escape now, screw the Doctor. He could hear the sounds bodies slamming against doors. The beasts heard a commotion and were being driven insane from bloodlust.
The beast made the first move, lunging at him with a reckless abandon that no living creature would have. The power from its lunge lifted it off the ground as it soared at Walter. It had at least an F-2 possibly F-3 physique. Reaching out Walter caught the beast while turning his body to increase the force of his Judo throw. Angling its head towards the ground Walter dropped to the ground with it while torquing his body to smash the top of its head into the hard ground. With a meaty smash, the beast went limp as Walter snatched the lanyard out of its pocket.
Getting up quickly, he went and snatched up his dowel rod when two more beasts burst into the hallway and charged him clacking their mouths loudly. Both in long robes tied in the back, they looked like patients in a medical facility.
The closer one was a gaunt, bald child rushing at him in a straight line. Walter just stepped to the side as it got closer bringing the butt of his rod directly on to its head, crushing its weakened skull. It crumpled to the floor twitching in death throes.
The second beast was a giant of a man. Obese and towering over Walter, he waddled closer clacking its teeth together. He used his skill, rushing past the beast. As his power ended, he spun kicking the outside of the fat beasts kneecap shattering it. As its leg buckled and it fell, Walter performed a jumping front kick crushing the back of its skull.

Is the short time it took him to kill the two beasts, more had shown up coming at him from both sides. If this kept up, he would quickly be overrun. Running to the only possible exit he saw he slammed into the door. The handle not moving he checked over his shoulder to see the hallway filling quickly with beast out for his blood.
Putting his back against the door, he readied his club to go down swinging. The lanyard with keys slid to his elbow, bumping against the black box. The black box beeped, and he heard the sounds of a lock disengaging. Reaching behind him he pushed handle door down and fell through the door as it opened.
Reflexively he did a back roll and got back to his feet ready to fight the beasts in the new cramped hallway. The door slammed shut the lock engaging instantly as the beasts slammed against the door. The door wouldn’t hold long but he had a few seconds to gather his wits before deciding his next action.
He glanced down the hallway seeing it cluttered with chairs on wheels pushed against desks. Skinny rectangle boxes sat on most of the desks with dark mirrored fronts. He saw a purse on one of the desks grabbing it as he ran down the hall. His eyes peeled for anything else easily lootable.
Nothing grabbed his attention as he rushed through the hallway, occasionally pushing chairs over making tiny barricades to trip up the beasts when they made it through the door. Stopping in front of a random door he slowly opened it peeking through the crack.
The smell hit him first, it smelled slightly sweet but with a rotten undertone making him gag. As he looked through the crack, he could see blood splatters covering the walls and floor. Some of the overhead lights were broke leaving only pools of light. He could make out the silhouettes of bodies standing and laying everywhere. The only clue that these were beasts was the constant clacking of their teeth. Shutting the door silently, he heard the door he originally came through crash to the ground in a loud clatter alerting the beasts on the other side of this door.
Panicking now, he activated skitter and rocketed down the hall slamming into a heavy metal door with a black box next to it. Swinging his lanyard with the keys at it made it beep twice angrily and nothing happened. Holding the keys against the black box again staring at the light until it beeped happily. Pulling the heavy door open to a staircase going up and down.

Rushing into the stairwell, he started heading down the stairs to exit the hospital, but a horde of beasts was blocking that escape. They started surging up at him as he pulled a 180 and started running up the stairs 2 at a time. Not slowing until he passed 4 heavy metal doors past the one he came through did he stop when the last said roof access with an alarm attached to it.
This last door would be an exit high above the ground. The alarm would draw too many of the monsters to him where he would be trapped and overran. Slowly opening the door to the 6th floor he peeked in even though the beasts were going to up there any second. Seeing nothing he quickly slinked in and shut the door. Pressing his ear against the door he listened as they rushed past his door and into the alarmed door. Klaxon siren going off as the press of bodies carried the front ones into the door.
Walter quickly spun around expecting to have to fight a new horde. Breathing heavily, adrenaline pumping coursing through his veins. He tightened his grip on his club waiting for battle, but nothing came. This floor was silent, the hallways were wider with glass windows.
Walking slowly through these halls he saws the partially dissected bodies of humanoid beasts still alive snapping their teeth. After taking the easy kills he would give each room a cursory glance and move on.
He could feel the stress of surviving building and he had only been here for an hour. He smiled a little thinking of a lesson Master Chief gave on this.
“Every day in another world is stressful but the first couple of hours are the worst. Running for your life scared shitless, trying to figure out what type of world and apocalypse you are dealing with is fine. Acting like you just fell out of your mom’s twat is FUCKING UNACCEPTABLE! For the next 24 hours, you will be running from me until you puke food you haven’t even eaten! Your only rest is if and it’s a big FUCKING IF you can hide from me long enough to relax before I find you and kick your asses. I will beat you so fucking badly that you will wish can climb back up your mommies twat. NOW RUN FUCKING RUN YOU WORTHLESS PIECES OF SHIT!”
That following 24 hours was one of the worst training sessions his class had ever dealt with. Everyone ended up with multiple broken bones from the beatings Master Chief would give them after catching them. He did refrain from breaking anything to debilitating so they could continue running away from him. One hour in this world couldn’t hold a candle to that hell.
Emboldened by this memory Walter pushed on, searching rooms carefully now. He found nothing he would consider a weapon but he was now sporting sky blue pants under his coat.
Making his way past the metal rooms and through some double swinging doors to room full of chairs and magazines. A desk sat next to the double swinging doors with more of those thin rectangle boxes with glass fronts on it.
Dumping out the purse he went through it finding only a small compact mirror that he could use to access The System. Tossing the purse to the side he pocketed the compact and looked around the floor for anything else useful.
Finding elevators that weren’t working and a vending machine with its glassed smashed out. He stopped and picked some random snack and put them in his pocket for later. His stomach was still full of the meal he shared with the Master Chief.
Walking behind the receptionist’s desk he opened the door behind it seeing a hall with lush carpet and dead potted plants. Doors of exquisite wood-lined both sides of the hall ending in a beautifully carved double door. Shutting this door quietly to not bother any possible beasts he backed away.
Walter instead cleared out a space to practice using his skill with suicide sprints. As he raced from one side of the room to the other while activating his skill he started to breathe heavily as he concentrated on the feelings of his power. While doing this he missed a door handle slowly turn.
