Market stalls lined the street. Lovers strolled hand in hand, casually browsing, whilst housewives hustled and bustled, and haggled over the price of the exotic fruits and other merchandises as for me.
"999.95$ for one pelt?!" Among the variety of stall, I stood on the rows of vendors that sold animal pelt.
"It's cheap! it is 142 cm long and take a look at its extra-wide silvery skin." Said the merchant with a scar on his right mouth.
Well, I still get a profit from this. I thought, right before I was closing the deal.
"Hey! hey! young man! don't listen to him, that guy is a fraud, mine is 157cm long and looks at this extra extra wide skin, and do you know that this is an alpha wolf? all of this is only 1,000$." The merchant right next to me, with his bald round head, made another deal that seemed far better than the previous one. He stretched out the wolf pelt and yes that was bigger than the previous one.
"Hey! Handsome! See this pure black fur! this is a VERY RARE COLOR, My husband can make a very beautiful coat with this fur, it is only 1100$ include the crafting price, how about it?!" A fat lady with her gray hair that tightly tied in a bun and a thin man with thick curly bread made another offer.
"Wait! this man is my buyer, get lost!" Said the scar merchant.
Actually is this matter? as long as the skin isn't damaged it will be fine right? I thought on my mind when the other vendors started to offer their pelt.
"Ah... I'm planning to get 15 pelts, anything is fine as long it isn't damaged."
"I only have one, but how about this bear pelt? or this moose head?"

"Sorry sir, but wolf pelt only."
When I turned around, the others merchant already surrounded me. A dollar sign could be seen on their pupils. In the end, I bought one pelt from each vendor and yet another problem arose.
"You guys only take cash?!"
"Of course duh, take a look at this village. We don't use that kind of high tech in here." Said the bald merchant, though the thing that surprised me the most was they considered a digital transaction as a high tech.
Taking a deep breath and exhaled it from my mouth. "...Where is the ATM?"
"ATM? the closest one is an hour ride from here, hey honey~ take this handsome gentleman to the main city." Said the fat lady, her thin husband with his thick beard nodded at her word.
Silently I followed the thin bearded merchant, and from the distance, the fat lady voice could be heard once again.
"And make sure he isn't hurt hun!."
...Hurt?! Why would I get hurt? Ah... "You've gotta be kidding right?!" My face fell into its repose of melancholy when I saw the pickup truck. The truck dilapidated and rusting and most of the tires were bald, its right front light was gone and the driver door was nowhere to be seen.
"What are you waiting for? Are you waiting for me to carry your ass into my truck?!" Said the bearded man.
Anxiously I walked and sat on his truck, by the time he started the engine an 11 magnitude earthquake happened, followed by an explosive sound that left thick black smoke from the truck exhaust and a screw flew out from out of nowhere and almost hit my head. "Hold tight kiddo!"
Like a racer from an action movie, he shifted the gear and push the pedal as hard as he can. "Awawawa!!" I couldn't help but make a weird voice when the car started to move. Is the road this bad? I thought.
"Gahahaha!!" The bearded merchant laughed maniacally by the time he shifted the gear and rose the speed, his two tooths each dangling on the bottom and top of his mouth could be seen. Die... I'm going to die!!

*****
After two hours of betting my life, we arrived at the village and saw the market square was crowded with people, each spoke with a loud voice.
"Karl, What happen?" Asked Herman, the crazy bearded two tooths merchant to the bald merchant while he stopped his truck right at the back of the crowd.
"Something attacked the old Billy and killed his dog." Said Karl.
From the distance, I stood from the truck corner and saw a fat old man. He held his broken hunting rifle on his right hand and two red circles could be seen from his bandaged left thigh and calf. "My eyes aren't playing tricks on me goddamnit! I really saw a monster!" He shouted.
Next to him, stood the light uniform men, Woody and Hudson were among them. "Relax old man, it might be just a big bear." Said Hudson.
"What?! I've been hunting a bear long before you're able to shit on your diaper. That thing isn't a bear!"
"Listen old man, a human mind can play a trick when they face a dangerous situation, you may be just hallucinating because of the blood loss."
"Huh?! then how do you explain this wound?! What kind of bear that makes this kind of wound?!" Old Billy yelled, he tried to stand up and grabbed Hudson collar but to no avail, he fell back. "Ouch!"
"Now, now calm down Billy, we believe your story and Hudson you better shut your mouth off. Now where was I, ah right, so did you see the monster?" Asked Woody.
"...No, it all happened too fast. Both of me and Sparky was chasing our game and then suddenly something was pierced Sparky body and the bear. I was lucky enough because I stood pretty far from their location, but believe me! it isn't the work of human!"
"Yes, I believe now who is the person that found my old pal?" Asked Woody.
"That would be us, sir." A Man and a teen boy raised their hand, traces of blood could be seen on their hunting uniform."
"Ah, did you two see something?"
"No, we only heard a scream and found Old Billy crawling on the ground."
"Andy! I've been teaching you hunting since you're a little brat, you know a bear couldn't make this kind of wound right?"
"Yes, I only saw from far, but indeed Sparky and a bear were laying on the ground and there was no one else besides me and my son." Said Andy.
"Sherif! Is the culprit is the same one that attacked the moose herd last night?" A man voice shouted from one of the crowd.
"We don't know yet, the truth is I wanted to make an investigation team on this morning. Since all of you guys have been gathered here, anyone wants to volunteer?" Asked Woody.
Hearing this, the villager began to chatter among themselves. Some immediately raised their hand while some were hesitant to raise it. The numbers of the villager that raised their hand were six.
"You...? Dew Everest right? This isn't a game kiddo." Said Woody when he saw me raised my hand.
"Eh... but you might want to have someone to document the whole process right? and believe me sir, I can take care of myself." Maybe... but this seems interesting.
"Oi! Speaking of which where were you this morning huh?! I didn't recall for seeing you on the square until right now." Asked Hudson with an interrogation tone.
"The kid is with me, I drive him into the city, got a problem?!" Said Herman.
"Ah yes, you can check the CCTV at the ATM as a proof."
"Hudson, for god sake, we already agree that he is innocent." Said Woody while he was holding his forehead right side. "Alright, prepare your things, we leave at 9 and just this time I allowed you guys to bring a rim-fire rifle."

It is just large enough for a college, a small town, and maybe even a few more unusual sorts of places. Of course, the townsfolk practically know each other as family. Flush-faced regulars can be found toasting just about anything in the Briar's Brew, then, a few streets away, the same haggle of older women stationed themselves on their perch as they did every day from one of the few balconies in Central Square. They fuss away now, spouting the usual gossip as they watch us all from on high. Then there is the College here on the Isle of Red. My college. It has been often described as an unusual place by a good deal of people on the mainland. If they only would visit -why I am sure they'll soon have a change of heart, they may even come to find it a quaint sort of place, odd but in the same way a tattered old quilt can be both odd looking and warm, and especially soft. The stage is set with a level of perfection that would have astonished me in my youth. They are coming. Derek will follow her. He knows the weight of reality too intimately, but she will be his true north if only for a short time. She holds onto questions feverishly tight, that one. Lights them up inside like a new type of fuel without the slightest worry of being burned. She knows... There is but a certain few who can look at a map and find nothing where I stand but the Atlantic Ocean. And still, there is earth beneath me, a noisy pub down the road from me, and several people clucking conspiratorially on a balcony above me. She knows... that the Isle of Red doesn't belong here. Neither, technically, do I. (Hello!
