Chapter 145: Silent Treatment
The two of them were across from each other when Lu Chen calls her. So naturally, when Lu Chen shouted, the whole entire classroom looks at him and then at Feng Meifeng. The problem solver has come to save them.
Are you an idiot?! I meant to go in front of her and ask her! Not scream her name out loud for everybody to hear, you dumbass! Zhang Jian couldn't believe how his best friend had such a low EQ, wondering how dense an idiot he is. He starts to move slightly behind Lu Chen, fearing Feng Meifeng would explode from this embarrassing situation. He could already see the image of Feng Meifeng killing Lu Chen.
Contrary to Zhang Jian's thoughts, Feng Meifeng didn't even reply back to him. Instead, she continues to focus on her book as she studies. Even without a response from Feng Meifeng, the students could tell she is going to treat Lu Chen like air. The aura coming off of her is still deadly.
The silent treatment is real from her.
But the silent treatment didn't affect Lu Chen at all. Instead, it became his advantage. Shrugging his shoulders, Lu Chen said helplessly to Zhang Jian. "It seems like she's ignoring me. Oh well, nothing I could do now." He went and took his seat. Even if there's a tense aura in the class, it doesn't mean it's not like it's unbearable. Lu Chen thought as he pulls out his book to read.
You son of a monkey's uncle! Can you actually take it seriously?! Zhang Jian felt his head was about to explode from rage. From how nonchalant Lu Chen was towards Feng Meifeng, Zhang Jian could tell he wasn't planning on trying. In fact, there wasn't even an ounce of effort in him! Tho he could help but feel relief. Zhang Jian felt lucky that Feng Meifeng didn't blow another gasket again.

"What, I did what I could to stop it. And besides, let's not bother the class monitor. Can't you see she's studying really hard? It's not like she's doing anything to you guys." After saying his piece, Lu Chen went back to reading his book.
Oh no, you don't. If Feng Meifeng isn't bothering you, then I'm going to do it! Zhang Jian couldn't let this go as he gives the stink eye to Lu Chen. Even though Lu Chen did something, that doesn't mean there's a problem with Feng Meifeng's aura for the rest of the class.
He continues to give Lu Chen the stink eye, but the man treats it like air. Instead, Lu Chen continues to read his book, looking like this isn't his fault. Zhang Jian could feel the world is falling apart. One person was in his own world, while the other person was about to kill someone.
Zhang Jian sighs in defeat. Fine, you win. He sits in front of Lu Chen as he asks him, "Hey. Why have you been reading all these books? It's not like you to be serious and studying." Lu Chen isn’t the reading type, and Zhang Jian knows he hates it more than anybody. So Zhang Jian knows there's got to be a reason for it.
Lu Chen retorts, "I'll tell you about it later. So stop ruining my reading time. We don't have that much time left." He went back to his reading.
Zhang Jian sucks his teeth at how focused Lu Chen is on the book. Well, I guess I should get to work as well. He walks to the students, explaining that Lu Chen and Feng Meifeng were having a spat. The two of them did their own thing until class started.
...
When class was over, Lu Chen was about to leave, but Zhang Jian blocks his way. Zhang Jian asks him, "Brother Chen, what do you need me to do?" If he lets Lu Chen have any time to think about it more, he could easily change it into something even worse.

"Relax, you don't need to worry about the thing I want you to do. This is something I already decided the moment you accepted my bet. Also, your brownie points aren't going to help you." How could Lu Chen not understand why Zhang Jian was talking to the students?
"Ehehehe." Zhang Jian makes a wry smile as he is caught. As the two walk to the gates, Zhang Jian notices something odd.
"What the hell. Who let those people in?"

March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.
