Chapter 58: This isn’t going to be a bet. It’s a one-sided slaughter.
Zhang Jian is right. Lu Chen forgot his grades are that of a dumpster fire, ready to be exploded to smithereens in a few seconds. With these grades, he shouldn't even be in his senior year. The only reason why the school hasn't kicked Lu Chen out because of his scores is due to his father's money. If it wasn't for the money, Lu Chen might have still been taking freshmen classes.
Seeing that Lu Chen is silent, Zhang Jian places his arm around his shoulders as he consoles him, "Don't worry about it, brother Chen. Once the exams are finished, we should go out and spend the night hitting up bars, get some drinks, and pick up chicks to let all of that pent up stress out." The process of the exams was going to be tedious, and they will need to distress afterward.
Zhang Jian had realized a long time ago that if Lu Chen gives up on Liu Fei Fei, he will need somebody else to fill the void in his heart. Liu Fei Fei played a big part in Lu Chen's life. Without her, Lu Chen might not know what to do. Knowing this, Zhang Jian had already thought about what he could do to replace that hole in his friend's heart, and going out to vent is the optimal choice right now.
But it is also like killing three birds with one stone for Zhang Jian. Not only would he be helping his best friend in the process, but they will be chilling out together. With Lu Chen's look, girls will come flocking towards them if they ever walk into a bar. How could Zhang Jian not comfort his friend?
Lu Chen knew what Zhang Jian wants to do, and he wasn’t going to go along with his plan. He moves Zhang Jian’s arm off of his shoulders as he retorts, “Get outta here. This time, it’s different. I’m definitely not going to be placed last in the least.”

Chuckling at how unbelievable Lu Chen sounded, Zhang jokes, “Come on, brother Lu. Don’t you remember how you did on your last midterm? They were just beyond saving from just how bad it was.” Zhang Jian could remember Lu Chen’s last midterm, and he couldn’t even get above 50 points on any subject.
“If you were my son, I would have disowned you a long time ago.” Zhang Jian said as he shook his head.
Lu Chen starts to glare at him and was about to smack Zhang Jian in the face, but then he thought about something even better as he gives a mischievous smile, “Then do you wanna make a bet?”
The evil glint in Lu Chen’s eyes made Zhang Jian shiver, but he couldn’t help ask, “What are the terms?”
“Whoever gets a better score than the other on the mock test wins. The loser will have to listen to whatever the winner says.” With these types of terms, Lu Chen knew that Zhang Jian was definitely going to take the bait.
And yes, he did. Zhang Jian could help but smile, “Fine, I agree to your terms.” How could Zhang Jian let these type of terms go? Zhang Jian already felt that he had won and was thinking about what he will order Lu Chen to do.
This isn’t going to be a bet. It’s a one-sided slaughter.
From the snickering and smug face Zhang Jian is making, Lu Chen knew that he caught Zhang Jian in his trap. Lu Chen couldn’t help but shake his head at him.
I wonder how surprised he would be once I get to the top ten?
Lu Chen wasn’t a hundred percent sure that he would get into the top three, but he knew that he would definitely get into the top ten at least.

…
As the school day ends, Zhang Jian quickly rushes out of the classroom to explain to the girls. Lu Chen couldn’t help but laugh at the sight. He walks out of the class and waits for Elder Wu.
When Lu Chen walks out to Elder Wu, Elder Wu greets him,
“How was today, Young Master?”
“It was fine today. We have a mock test for the gaokao today?”
“How do you think you did, young master?” Elder Wu asks.
“At least in top ten,” Lu Chen said casually.

An Unwavering Craftsman
Given the hereditary nature of classes, everyone expects Damien—the child of two high-tiered adventurers—to be granted a high-tier combat class of his own. Expectations are betrayed, however, when Damien finds himself instead saddled with a crafting class of the lowest possible tier: [Neophyte Tailor]. Left practically crippled compared to those with better classes, Damien wants to avoid becoming a pawn in the machinations of the nobility, desiring only to grind his level in peace while wondering why the usual rules of inheritance were broken. Was it his desire to excel by his own effort, rather than an unearned blessing from a god? Did the Five take offence at his opinions on the unfairness of hereditary classes? Or maybe it was something to do with the alien voice that intruded on his ceremony? A voice that offers great power, and freedom from the tyranny of the Five, but that never names its price. This story is litRPG-lite. While the class someone possesses controls most of their lives, people don't get dinged at for every level they gain, nor can they see their status without undergoing a special ritual. The MC has no romantic interest. Crafting is merely a way to game the system, and doesn't feature heavily in the story, aside from a few descriptions on how they're carrying out the system abuse. There is, on one unfortunate occasion, maths. The pace is quick. This was a participant in the Spring 2022 writathon. (i.e. it was posted as-written at high speed. I may give it another editing pass in the future.)
